  • On February 3rd, 2024, a 12 year old boy was discovered dead in a bivy (sleeping tent) at the Trails Carolina camp for troubled youth. This is not the first death to occur at the camp and there have been years of investigations into abuse there.
Let's discuss this case, along with all the search warrants, reports, and documents together. And may there be justice for CJH, who died within 24 hours of arriving at camp.

Right. And why isn't North Carolina monitoring this. There is a ranch I support. It is not for the mentally ill. Each building has house parents. These kids are lucky they aren't in juvenile detention centers where they have access to drugs and connect with other belligerent young criminals. They don't come from privileged homes. I think they are soon thankful for an orderly life, 3 goods meals, and help with schoolwork.

I don’t see how the senior counsellor in the cabin doesn’t end up being charged with manslaughter, not to mention child abuse/neglect.
But neither Trails Carolina as a company nor the Department for Health and Human Services should be allowed to scapegoat one individual. This goes all the way to the top: we need to see the CEO of the company prosecuted, as well as those in local government who green lit this den of abuse year after year.

I cant believe they removed and hid the 3 roommates from the police, or so it sounds. Those are the best witnesses. I was in Boy Scouts, we always used the buddy system. No one ever left alone. We always had adults watching over us.our parents were always welcome to join us. Even at summer camps, we would have family days. Once a week. I'm not saying this particular boys parents are guilty of anything, it clearly was the camps fault. There should have been some parents somewhere. ANYTIME ANYONE SAYS "NO PARENTS ALLOWED " IS THE BIGGEST RED FLAG ON EARTH. My roommate apparantly was bad enough in school, his mom or grandma would SIT IN his classes during high school. Very effective, and quite embarrassing. He eventually graduated, and went to USC. In my own life, when my parents were getting divorced, my sister and I were sent to live our summers with other family members, we didnt realize what was going on. It never seemed like punishment, it was so they could have a few months of freedom, while THEY WERE SORTING OUT THEIR PROBLEMS.

Having a history of migraines and was found to have cerebral edema is a red flag to me. Also clonidine and klonopin are both drugs used for anti anxiety in addition to clonidine also used for hypertension. This child having anxiety and being put in confinement can lead to a severe panic syndrome where people can actually die from it. I'm a nurse and have witnessed patients in severe panic and all efforts are made to relieve it because patients will code if the patient is "in confinement" being held down against their will which is often done because the patient is a risk to others and themselves. Heavy sedation is given to stop the panic. It's a very scary predicament for medical staff and we know there is great liability if the patient is harmed because of our mishandling of the patient! Panic is not to be ignored nor is it to be down played!

Maybe they didn't know until it was shut down and the kids sent home....scary thought really. I'm not sure how much it would have been covered nationally when it happened so might not have even seen it on the news. Or perhaps the camp played it down to them, like with their response to the LE statement. Mind you anyone who lets complete strangers come into their house at night to take their terrifed child, doesn't really scream caring, loving parent so maybe they just didn't care

I've had two friends who were camp counselors at (different) places like this. But these were more like the, 'hike into the desert and force the kids to learn to survive of the land' type of camps. One of them quit bc he really wanted to help the kids and really cared about them, but he kept clashing with management and senior staff about how exactly was the best way to achieve that... Basically he didn't like how harsh they were to the kids, and he didn't like that he was getting reprimanded for going outside their direction and they said he was coddling them.. he said it's positive reinforcement and encouragement. They didn't believe that had any place in the curriculum, not until they had proved that they earned it. INSANE to me.
But one thing i know to be true - kids *will* resent their parents for sending them away. And parents *will* regret their decision, even if it's made with the best of intentions. These kids get scarred for life. And it affects their relationship with their parents *for life*

I follow two simple methods for parenting. 1 Structure and discipline. 2 Incentive and reward. I met my current wife back in 2011. She had a son who was constantly in fights and other stuff in and out of schools with anger problems. He was 11 when I stepped in and told her to put him in military school. Willamette leadership academy in Springfield Oregon. He graduated with kernel honor roll and got a certificate from the governor. I gave him incentives to do his school work with things he wanted and privileges. I followed through and always kept my word. Anytime he messed up he lost his privileges and had to earn them back. He had structure and guidance. Parents need to stop trying to be their kids friend and be a parent. If anyones out there and they are having trouble with their kiddo. Try these methods , the work I can promise you that.

There’s a very good reason why insurance companies don’t want anything to do with these “Troubled Teen Camps”. These camps don’t have a 24 / 7 on site medical professional. I work for a small not for profit medical insurance company and I remember speaking with clients about these camps. They often don’t have the licensing that is required for CMS / Medicaid guidelines.
I am a firm believer that these places are just a money grab and are dangerous. They often hire unqualified workers with little or no mental health qualifications.
This industry needs to be shut down.

Right on. Definitely should have a medical bay, and a licensed psychiatrist 24/7. Its not nearly the same, I was in boy scouts. We drilled so much First Aid, because we literally would hike to the bottom of the Grand Canyon and up the other side. We had equally well trained adults (a lot of ex-military parents) . And I seen it a few times, young men/boys, hauled out by a Sherrif's Helicopter, the leaders did what they had to do. None of this cover up BS that's going around. This Trails camp, Maddie Soto, Sebastian Roger's, Summer Wells. If those were accidental overdoses, drownings, head injuries , just call the damn ambulance, please everybody. I have mental trauma from applying my first aid skills. My friend I went to the corner store, and when we come out, there is a guy in a Motorcycle helmet laying in the middle of a pretty busy road. We didnt even hear anything. So I hand my bag to my friend, run into the street. First to stop traffic, and stop him from trying to get up. Stay down, Stay down. Thankfully a car full of my younger homeboys were passing by. So I get them to wave traffic around me and this guy on the ground. Call the ambo. I look down at his leg. It looked like an overcooked chicken leg. A bloody mess. I empty my pockets, give one of my young homeboys my keys, wallet money and phone. And wrap my sweater around his leg. While telling him don't look down. He would have went into shock. He's struggling trying to sit up and stand. I can see him using his arms, his one good leg is moving, he's lifting his neck. Ok. Must not have a spinal injury. That's why I didnt want him to move in the first place. I've got his leg wrapped up. Applying pressure. I make the decision, let's get him out of traffic, onto the grass on the side of the street. My homeboy was kind of resistant, but we dragged this man to the curb. He was sitting up and semi coherant.ok. we covered a lot of bases in under a few minutes. Then, his girlfriend or sister? Comes running up, apparently she was on the Motorcycle as well (I never saw the Motorcycle, apparently it was like 100 feet away). Shes panicking, trying to take off his helmet.wrong move lady. NEVER TAKE OFF A DOWNED RIDERS HELMET. Leave it to the EMTs to make that decision. So now I'm fighting, literally for her to get away from him. Shes fiesty, standing over me. I'm like, lady just sit under him.hold his hand. All that good stuff. Nobody wants to keep pressure on his gushing leg wound. Scared of blood. That's understandable. Miraculously, this blond haired , blue eyed male, stops, he had be an off duty cop or EMT. He comes flying into the scene, with a full on , tourniquet, the real stuff you see the military use. Thank goodness, he had that in his trunk. Massive blood loss, equals instant... expiration. Dont know how, don't know why,. This complete stranger to us all, applied the tourniquet, I was trained to NOT use it. And yo. No joke. When EMS showed up, it didnt take 3 minutes for him to be back boarded up. Give clear definition of his injuries. They packed that boy in the ambulance with his girl. I was in shock myself, I guarantee you. Later that night, my young homeboy ,Returned my keys, my wallet, my cash, my phone. I was still trying to process. So yes, they need medical staff on deck. I am no medical professional

      @LindaCapra 2 дня назад +5

I am guessing that the ranch you sent your son to is licensed under a very different set of rules and regulations (compared to North Carolina) at a state level through the Department of Human Services? If not, it sounds like the ranches program goes way above and beyond what is required by them, and I commend you for putting in the time and effort to find such a place. Sadly, it takes tragedies like this to see any real change. Just shutting down the one camp is not good enough though, not by a long shot. Hopefully with so many coming forward, more will be done. I think the that the whole DHS’ rules and regulations for licensing needs to be overhauled, which takes time, so in the mean time all such camps should be shutdown. They should model their rules and regulations off of states with the best services.

As far as confinement and restraint of children it is usually not legally allowed in a hospital and for adult patients who are in such environments they have to be continuosly monitored by medical staff and the least restraint necessary is used because it is a known fact that the risk of death in these situations is high if the patient is not watched carefully.

I understand that parents who send their kids here often feel desperate and are acting on bad advice from trusted people, including some professionals. But these places are not safe for anyone's child. Please, please, stop sending your kids to places like this where you can't be there and can't watch what's going on. They heinously abuse children at these places because they can get away with it because the parents aren't there to see and stop it. If you do send your kids to places like this because you think well THIS one is different, please listen to your kids if they try to tell you that they're being abused. The child sleeps in the nude because he is sensitive to clothing tags?? So cut them out, better yet get tagless underwear! Poor kid, nobody listened to him! The fact that he was willing to take his pants and underwear off to go to bed in company of other adolescents plus adults just shows you how young and naive he was!!

    This is absolutely terrible.
Why would ANY caring parent subject their child to this BS.
I'm not convinced these parents didn't know what went on there.
Any good parents would do their research first. Terrible 😢

People stop sending your children off with strangers, especially if you do not investigate these places. If you believe your child has behavioral issues or any type of diagnosis ADD ADHD autism seek Counseling in your own home no more filling the pockets of these camps that are destroying children 😢😢

You are so thorough, the most thorough of other channels. It's apparent that you do your work and research.
