Well I’m excited about this ship. I’m gonna enjoy patrolling Stanton and hopefully Pyro, I think the possibilities for this game are never ending and I’m excited about the progress and development. Looking forward to the new roadmap and getting a glimpse into the future.

In the future, CGI should provide single man crew player ships the option of hiring dedicated A.I. team members for every position and ship class. Obviously, it wouldn't be a bad thing if the A.I. was onboard to fill support roles the player and their entourage don't care to at any given moment (or as the situation necessitates).
NPC A.I. staff members have experience levels:
      - Cadets (Non- Robot A.I. only)
      - Veterans
      - Professionals
      - Seasoned Professionals (older)
      - Elite 1: Expert
      - Elite 2: Veteran
      - Elite 3: Consummate Professional (can teach theory and make executive decisions or offer the best suggestions to the player)
These team types should have multiple qualifications (rank exp based):
      - Workers ( they live to work and work to live; they fight when they need to, live to tell the tale and keep feeding their families).
      - Hand Picked (player selected through H.R. agency contract; don't know what skills you may come across or who may have the ones you want; there are high value specialty skills and invaluable connections available for hire at top UEC or at a considerable premium in real world currency).
      - Default Crew (a motley assemblage of talent; sometimes new hopefuls with good educational backgrounds who did everything in life well; working really hard to attain their rigorous academic dreams; up to their newfound discovery of the vastness of opportunity in space, as career people up for a challenge, these crew mates took up peculiar combat training with the best security companies available; each person contributes something irreplaceable and together they create a sense of camaraderie with whomever employs them; they are competitive die-hards at everything they do, and they don't think about what it means to lose).
      - Rebels (no strangers to intense conflicts and wars with an assortment of threats over the years, crime can happen and they won't be phased; hardened survivalists who won't give in to defeat; they have a knack for hunkering down when the going gets rough and the follow through to ensure everyone they roll with makes it out alive and thriving; desperation has taught them invaluable lessons on human will power against all odds; boot strappers, engineers, mechanics and assassins, they consider themselves independent-minded and time has proven their way of life).
      - Anonymous Crew (civilians with genius who can preemptively out think their opponents' strategies and execute accordingly; they are well-rounded and gung-ho warrior scientists open to explore new frontier space; they can fight and are top notch at the task; they are an uncanny force to be reckoned with and command fear in the verse).
      - Civilian Soldiers / Security Contractors (ready-for-hire teams with the know-how to get the job done at all costs; varying levels of good experience (actual or top tier proficiency rating in VR instruction hours); each has several dedicated specialist skills, and works well with their teams; can be trusted to handle demanding assignments confidently and to the best of their abilities; resourceful and diligent; can perform engineering modifications, upgrades, fights effectively during squad ground combat expeditions, and will repel ship breachers effectively on their own with excellent strategic capabilities in their tasked environment).
      - Private Military Corporation Mercenaries (mixed divergence of well trained, eclectic operators from different classified backgrounds, unique battle experiences and extreme adaptability; increased preparedness and the steely courage for anything you can throw at them).
      - Military Special Forces (the best of the best of the best in all areas of the space faring lifestyle; highly accurate, superbly trained, enhanced combat skill and overall prowess during human v. human dogfights or hostile alien forces; can handle any responsibility delegated with efficiency and extreme effectiveness; highly resourceful and intelligent team players who execute utilizing outstanding unconventional tactics with utmost professionalism; each team member has customized weapon modifications, elite body armour, space suits, kit and gear; can be ordered to stealthily board an enemy vessel, assault it guns blazing or overtake an enemy base during high speed ground assault on kill / capture / infiltrate / acquire / sabotage / bombing missions with atypical success rate; works together on priority targets during evasive maneuvers to prevent ship boarding from happening at all costs; team will maintain good situational awareness and will engage enemies on demand; accelerated crew is functional much quicker than average and requires less down time before and after combat; can be left to complete a task unsupervised; will steal enemy ships or technologies as encountered and return them to player base; can be tasked to use enemy ships against them with extraordinary success rate).
      - Military Agency Covert and Clandestine Spy Troops (special gear, can use any weapons, augments any weapons, can disguise themselves, defeats enemy security systems, sets lethal traps, enhanced detection sensors / signals processing, brilliant strategists, unusually high accuracy, combat experts, rapid response (standard), well trained, can fight ground battles, board ships with very high success rate kill / capture / sabotage / bombing / cyber warfare / counterinsurgency / jamming / target extraction instructions with arsenal provided (or acquired in combat; can steal enemy ships and pilot them in battle; any commandeered enemy ships can be added to player inventory; team will fly in formation or attack and defend; can be instructed to destroy all enemy equipment while in separate ships; elite combat skill will ensure ship preservation, unmatched success, and survival rate; can mirror your playing style).
      - Black Ops (access to fully customizable theoretical weapons, classified operational technique, close quarters stealth kills, invisibility cloaking, elite training, can out man enemies, augmentation, cybernetics, maximum accuracy, and ability to incorporate procured human / non-human experimental battle technologies for ship augmentation; enemy threat radar, can be instructed to kill / capture / defend / search / destroy / infiltrate / acquire / disable / jam / hijack or sabotage at any time; can be tasked with overtaking enemy base and facilities; can pilot any ships; will assist player in enemy vessels; fully dedicated to supporting the missions they serve on no matter the risk or cost; requires downtime at odd times but accelerated during prolonged up times; will function at a high level until all local threats are neutralized).
      - A.I. Android Robots (completely packed with mankind's bleeding-edge classified technologies, and capabilities, program software functionality, physical strength, speed, agility, endurance, and awareness; the android robots represent the last human achievement; they are modern marvels with inconceivable traits; they have synergies which integrate them into the ships they staff; they can remotely control ship defense systems and repel, counter attack, or destroy any physical or cyber threat they encounter while on duty; they have a multi-role combat mode suite; they can hack, disable or pilot nearby vessels in and out of combat; they can operate for longer periods than any human ever would but eventually they require longer downtime for recalibration testing, boot-up, repair, and recharge if they are not given a normal day / night routine duty cycle; they are susceptible to automatic overrides and their anti-virus, counter-spy encryption requires continuous updates, monitoring, and evolution; these android robots are almost invincible but they have built-in weaknesses as a precautionary failsafe which can be exploited; for a fee they will have to be inspected and serviced after every continuously sustained combat situation by their technical management team for field performance data analysis, component upgrades, software changes, systems maintenance, cyber security penetration testing, and overall improvement).
The inclusion of all that stuff should make things pretty interesting and also entertaining.

Hey BoredG, Just melted my Sabre, Corsair and a couple others to get this Gunship. IMO the Perseus has great potential.
This ship has VTOL, is smaller than a Carrack so it should be able to land any place that a carrack can. I am confident the ship
is able to be crewed with less than 6, prob. 3 unless going into a major conflict. It should have gun racks and possibly a slightly
larger cargo bay, by the time it is completed like the MSR . At this time, it is the same size as a 600i give or take and has 10 more SCU, plus a larger propulsion system, power plant, cooler and shields .

I can see the main guns having some kind of flak round to change to for anti fighter purposes. It could fire them at single or groups of fighters approaching from range. Also probably some type of mini-emp warhead shell given that the Sentinel is supposed to have EMP warhead missiles of some kind.

I personally like the Perseus so I got myself one. But one thing doesn't seem right: The unmanned turret's guns are too small. If a Redeemer can carry Size 5 guns, the Perseus should have some, as well. After all, it's a pure military ship and not some civilian one that was made for cargo hauling/trading.

Another role that I think this thing going to excel in is as a convoy raider. Just imagine one of these popping up in front of a bunch of cargo vessels, fire off a few volleys, and jump out again. Or even more frightening, if it's part of a raiding group. Just imagine an Idris as a command vessel with fighter compliment (or something to gather the loot, mayhap), with a Hammerhead and a pair of Perseus's...
Also, on the types of ammo, I'm, hoping there's a variety for taking out specific things, so anti-shield and anti-armor rounds, and possibly burst rounds of some kind to help with anti-fighter flak.

It doesn't bother me at all if people want to solo this or any ship with the help of blades or npc crew. In fact, I strongly suspect the majority of owners will be going that route. Not everyone is or wants to be in an org or do pugs and there are simply too many citizens out there now who have pledged thousands of dollars for large ships. Why not let them fly them...assuming all the pros, cons, risks and costs of doing so... if they want. Its simple enough to support large solo ship gameplay with scalable missions/payout and they would be a viable option even for vehement pro-crew players caught with friends in prison or not online. Looking forward to flying this someday 😊

Multicrew ships are almost always going to be 1 player with an NPC crew. I am confident that will be true for the following reason:
Any given ship with one player and an npc crew is going to be effective to a given extent; call that E.
If the addition of an actual player makes that ship 80% more effective, it's effectiveness would become E(1.8)
But that same additional player, flying a identical ship with an npc crew, has effectiveness E. That would bring total effectiveness to E(2), or higher.
The only way for multicrew to make sense is if each additional player more than doubles the effectiveness of flying that ship.
I am ignoring the fun factor and the UEC cost, but I think you can see the point.

Great summary. The answer seems to be “probably, but not very well.” I think engineering gameplay is really going to force people to rethink solo fights in these big ships. Even if an NPC can run around putting out fires, repairing components, and managing power distribution those are pretty critical functions and I just don’t see NPCs being able to handle them at the same level as a real player.

It could be used to haul cargo, or two or three ROC mining vehicles. While they're out mining, the gunners can watch over the miners as they work. Then, as you make your way to sell your minerals, you are much less likely to be attacked by pirates or thieves. Especially if there's more than one Perseus. Also, they should have designed it to fit a Nova tank. That would have been a big plus for the ship.

Blades, NPCs and/or multiboxing would allow you to go solo. This could work as a sniper by using long range ammo that likely does less damage. If you can keep range between you and your target you likely win the day. If they get under your guns, your done, time to run before a Mantis shows up.

  • @streetwind.

That's actually a good point. The best combat ships in the game might not be those with the best weapons, or shields, or other stats. It might be whatever can slave the most firepower to a single pilot. Because at the end of the day, player numbers are going to be the most limiting factor of them all.

I'm very wary of buying a ship larger than a medium transport or heavy fighter. It's not only the "Can I solo?" question, it's also, "Can I afford it's hidden cost when the costs actually come? Can I afford the ammunition, the fuel, and the support cost?"

The Perseus is not a starter ship, I myself have a Cutlass as a starter ship, but also have a Merc. Star Runner, Caterpillar, Carrack and now a Perseus. In this way as I work my way up, I will have adequate funds to move to the next larger ship without having to grind as much. The larger ships will stay in mothballs until I have advanced far enough to maintain a larger ship. I Will not get any ship that has more than 6 crew. It will be fun to Firefly through the Verse.

I think the Perseus will have SC equivalents of AP and HE rounds. CIG has already said that they are planning various ammo types and even the possibility of players loading individual rounds into magazines. I wonder if this will give the turret gunners the opportunity to switch ammo types on the fly, or if the ship captain will have to be judicious in what type of ammo is loaded into each turret.

using blades to slave the main turrets to pilot controls would probably work really well for long range, but it would make it extremely difficult if not impossible to fire sideways which will hurt in close range.

Like I thought: Short answer is yes but not to full capability. I would not expect size 7 turrets to be fast enough to track a single person fighter. The guns should have ammo equivalent to the different types of gun abilities: Shield Knockdown, EMP Pulse for disabling, Maybe a slower but heavier shot for raw damage, for example.

I imagine the Perseus might come out at or around the time when blades are in game, unless they decide to release it before then and have the players need to run it in groups.

The new animation stuff is fun, nice work! I can't wait to see all these ships in action for some epic player on player fleet battles with all the various types of ships from fighter to capital class. Pew pew lasers, explosions, and salty wenches?? Happy holidays!

We have to hope that having someone (or NPC) manning engineering and shields will be a force multiplier. Also, in the Ares Q&A they talked about 2-3x the ammo capacity of a typical ballistic, hopefully that holds true for the Perseus as well.

This is the question I ask myself no matter what ship it is. You already know I’m gonna do this when I get an idris in game

A third defensive turret on the bottem at the front, and the bottem heavy turret when deployed moves forward covering the cargo/vehicle bay and I'm sold.

I would expect 3 man minimum for effective use. Preferably 4 to have a person running engineering stuff and fix things.
As for ammo, standard and armor piercing are probably the options. Flak might be too but that could remove it's vulnerability to fighters too much.

I want to see some boarding actions against this ship. If you can get some small craft in past the guns to drop off troops, it would be pretty easy to overtake any skeleton crew manning the ship. Taking it over and turning the guns on friendly forces would be a fun and effective tactic against a short staffed Perseus

This has effectively become the ship I am looking forward to the most over the next 18-24 months, followed shortly by the Ares/Ion. Especially as we start to see more CapShip events in the game.
