Superb playing from the beautiful Yuja Wang. Pure pleasure with marvellous accompaniment from an orchestrra wonderfully conducted in complete harmony with the soloist. Thanks for posting.
underberger, thank you for making available this complete version of Yuja's performance of Mendelssohn Concerto n.1. It conveys emotional transitions we otherwise could have missed, for example, from delicately pensive to briskly blissful....
Pure music. At the applause, most soloists bow to the public before shaking hands with the conductor, sometimes also with the first violin and, less frequently, with the second violin. Very seldom do they even look at the orchestra. This young lady greeted first of all the conductor, the two leading violonists, THANKED the orchestra, and only then turned to the audience. Delighted to note between 8:15 and 8:22, a perfect end of the performance. What would a soloist be without the instruments?
You just have to love the change in expression on her face at the end of movement 2. Goes from dreamy expression at the end of mvt 2 to a pouty expression as she tries to steam up for movement 3. (Around 2:00). Priceless
Normally I like just the 1st and 2nd movement of this concerto, but in this case - seeing Mrs. Wang's joy of playing - I like also the 3rd movement :-)
I haven't heard that performance but Yuja Wang's performance is, in my view, as good as it gets. There may be other performances that are brilliant but this girl lives the music and although I wouldn't denigrate Lang Lang or Andras Schiff, I return to Wang each time I want to hear it. There is another scintillating performance by Dang Thai Son on this RUclips page.
I join the opinion by suegha, she plays brilliantly. Her senses are reflected on the video. Присоединяюсь к мнению suegha, она играет блестяще. Ее чувства на видео очевидны.
If I want clarity of execution and sexiness, I watch Wang (her boyfriend, if she has one, is a very lucky young man). If I want lots of drama, I watch Lisitsa. If I want to just focus on the music, I watch Hamelin, who's neither sexy nor dramatic. All of them excellent at doing what they do.
Typical heavy handed & self indulgent Masur can't ruin Yuja Wang's first rate performance. She is the real thing & her youth shouldn't be mistaken for her mature artistry. Here, miserable sound, orchestra & conductor. Yuja's future should be stellar & she's among the exceptional young pianists today worthy to be heard & followed. Her new collaborations with Tilson-Thomas promise a conductor much more in sympathy with both the artist & the music.
Pretty amazing! Wishing her aa long, successful, joy-filled life and career. May she grow in interpretive depth with every passing year. Then she will stand with Martha Argerich and other giants in the history of the piano.
@organboi Ever been in a musical organization? Ever try to get a hundred musicians or singers to play the same way, to make the same music? The conductor makes this happen and Curt Masur is one of the best.
@organboi Are you serious? So according to you, Toscanini, Stokowski, Mengelberg, Karajan. Furtwangler, et al were unnecessary because their orchestras would have given just as good a performance without them .
i am a huge fan of mikhail pletnev he is the king concerto like prokofjev 1 a nuclear explosion kind of performance. also haydyn 11 d major pletnev plays diamond like tone and fast Buut pletnev is the coolest the most powerful hardest hitting piano player in history. but can pletnev play mendelsohn and mozart that is other story
i have vhs tape from 1989 dimitri bashkirov playing mendelsohn g minor with finnish radio symphony. It is unbeatable piano sound is 1000 warmer than wang and pletnev bashkirov tempos are right. lang lang and schif are weak in this concertos. Some one please load bashkirov version
Oh-and I am truly enjoying your squirming obsequious efforts to please and stay noticed by the august Mr. 705...LOL! It is really funny, tho' a little pitiful, to see how you try to adjust your troll heart when he shows you the slightest disapproval. He IS old...so he might take pity enough, considering his diminished opportunities, and you two could...;-/ Tho' he might under-perform as he does in musical opinion, he still must be most experienced, if you know what I mean...
Well raineri..."1000" times is getting a little fanatical... Until we can compare for ourselves this Bashkirov one (and it's orchestra vs the others too) it is indeed your right to opine but ours to take that opinion with a grain of salt. But no matter how one feels, the Pletnev, Wang, Schiff are hardly "weak". I can get in step with you over Lang..technically proficient as he is-harsh playing without much feeling of fun that this concerto needs more than "warmth".
Tho', if posting in less humble mood, it may help the rest of us if you preface your comments as the ancient centurions did when delivering missives from on high: Recedite, plebes! Gero rem imperialem! ;-]
Oh my---we DO have another obsessive/compulsive, multi-screen name troll on YT!!! Be forewarned...'raneri hakkarainen' and 'd2d4e6' are one in the same Finish fanatic..more to follow? You will notice same bad English, with same agenda to post negative troll's on pianists--or obsessively the same promotions of pianists they think are 'better' at playing the piece...Wow-just what YT needed-another schizoid troll!! All those cell phones must be killing a few brains over there...
LOL---I am so glad you have found the Finn's to play with...but as you can see...they sort of have their OWN mad agenda to troll with; thanks to you now one about why their English is so bad! Perhaps some of your Polish may impress or communicate with their Swedish/Finn souls better? As for your boring and obsessive Yuja 'critiques' and fecal concerns...well, hangover's do happen after a lot of pink elephant musical delusions...;-]
NO other story...until you favor us an upload of Bashkirov playing this, no one need agree with your opinion, for that is all it remains. And your 'assessments' of, and negativity on Pletnev, or Yuja's performance here, are rather shallow and musically wrongheaded ones.
Well--who'd a thunk it!!! We share one badge of honor--he flushed and censored Mr. bloodgrss's 'commentary' because of the 'vulgarity' of my opposing his Moses like pronouncements. But I think he still likes you surreptitiously..and his 'crowd' ain't that big...
OK---since English is a second language for you, I am not sure about comprehension. I have also noticed you have a lot of time on your hands to post rather obsessive troll's on multiple video's promoting your own pianists of choice and rather irrelevantly telling us what some 'critic's' think. So I've no wish to engage in discssion with what could be an obsessive/compulsive personality. I know Bashkirov and he is superb, but not in everything to the exclusion of other fine pianists...
A thing of beauty is a joy forever. Watching and listening perfoming Yuja Wang is twice a joy.
I am speechless. I haven't seen a performance like this in my entire life. She's beyond perfection.
I never watch this video without being blown away by it. If genius and gorgeousness could be bottled, the name on the label would be Yuja Wang.
Played the second movement for Westfield orchestra competition. Yuga was my inspiration to learn this masterpiece in the first place. Thank you.
Superb playing from the beautiful Yuja Wang. Pure pleasure with marvellous accompaniment from an orchestrra wonderfully conducted in complete harmony with the soloist. Thanks for posting.
I love to watch Yuja Wang perform. She is into what she is doing. When she performs she is the music.
underberger, thank you for making available this complete version of Yuja's performance of Mendelssohn Concerto n.1. It conveys emotional transitions we otherwise could have missed, for example, from delicately pensive to briskly blissful....
Yuja Wang is phenomenal and wonderful, feel the joy at 3 08! A true 21st century artist bringing light and optimism to the world, certainly to mine!
Yuja, you transcended Mendelssohn to a new level!
Absolute THE Number 1 Of the World's Pianoplayers,
Sencillamente espectacular. Es la presencia de Dios a través de todos esos músicos y de esa maravillosa mujer que es un prodigio. La amo
I love this concerto, and she plays it brilliantly! The right pace and inflection, well played!
Wow!! The epitome of artistry! Bravo!
All these young people are equally splendid, not any one but all
Yuja, Wonderful pianist and beautiful woman. Perfect, don't change.
You just have to love the change in expression on her face at the end of movement 2. Goes from dreamy expression at the end of mvt 2 to a pouty expression as she tries to steam up for movement 3. (Around 2:00). Priceless
This girl is insanely talented!
Beautiful Work Yuja, splendid!
I love you!
She is such a miracal! I love her.
She made Mendelssohn my favourite composer!
Sublime performance, such a Lady, brava madam, the most beautiful pianist ever
Normally I like just the 1st and 2nd movement of this concerto, but in this case - seeing Mrs. Wang's joy of playing - I like also the 3rd movement :-)
Rém aranyos és nagyon jól játszik.Bravo !
Brilliance at its best. What a pergormance❤
Просто гениальная!! Нет слов
Very very wonderful piano playing!!!!!*****★★★★★*****♪♫♫♫♪♪Thank you!
The kind of genius that come along once every hundred years or so!
What an outstanding performance, and beautiful touch.
beautiful beyond words
stunning performer, she has a wonderful talent. And easy on the eye ;-)
impressionante la bravura e magistrale l'esecuzione
Too good. Just breathtaking. brava!
She plays from her heart
it's amazing when she plays becomes more beautiful !
How many pianists in the world can equal her ?
I haven't heard that performance but Yuja Wang's performance is, in my view, as good as it gets. There may be other performances that are brilliant but this girl lives the music and although I wouldn't denigrate Lang Lang or Andras Schiff, I return to Wang each time I want to hear it. And bravo conductor and orchestra, music of this quality is a team work!
얼마나 행복할까....
belle princesse et beau jeu!!
Beautiful....
Excellent!!
I join the opinion by suegha, she plays brilliantly. Her senses are reflected on the video. Присоединяюсь к мнению suegha, она играет блестяще. Ее чувства на видео очевидны.
BRAVO !
excellente interprétation !!
Prodigiosa!
Maravilhoso concerto !!!!!!!!

Just had to get my Yuja fix before turning in for the night.
FLYING FINGERS, BEAUTIFUL GIRL, COSPLAY GIRL EYES. MAGIC.
Superb technique.
@Karkeix I've read somewhere that the Verbier Festival Orchestra is a bunch of handpicked musicians from all over the world.
Typical heavy handed & self indulgent Masur can't ruin Yuja Wang's first rate performance. She is the real thing & her youth shouldn't be mistaken for her mature artistry. Her new collaborations with Tilson-Thomas promise a conductor much more in sympathy with both the artist & the music.
Shame the 2 videos split in the middle of the 2nd movement - regardless, magic!
Pretty amazing! Wishing her aa long, successful, joy-filled life and career.
May she grow in interpretive depth with every passing year. Then she will
stand with Martha Argerich and other giants in the history of the piano.
Finally, I found someone better than Lang Lang.
@organboi Ever been in a musical organization? Ever try to get a hundred musicians or singers to play the same way, to make the same music? The conductor makes this happen and Curt Masur is one of the best.
Brava!
good way to study what dimitri bashkirov can do is to listen finale scriabin piano concerto you can find that one from youtube
Guess: her Mom is a professional typest and her Dad is a musician. That marriage was a perfect match.
@gc0619 No; her mom is an Asian and her dad is a professional Asian. THAT marriage was a perfect match.
Kurt Masur likes talented Asian musician girls as soloists. Like Sarah Chang.
いいピアニスト彼女は、民族、国、関係ないです、時々ぞっくとする色っぽさそれがたまらなく、、でした。
wow .. nice hands.
@MartinPadderborn
Agreed. Instead of her making love to the piano at 1.56, it should have been me.
Yo la quiero para llevármela pa casa!!
@organboi

@entropyftw I think it's the conductor's fault...
i have vhs tape from 1989 dimitri bashkirov playing mendelsohn g minor with finnish radio symphony. It is unbeatable piano sound is 1000 warmer than wang and pletnev bashkirov tempos are right. lang lang and schif are weak in this concertos. Some one please load bashkirov version
first name is raineri not raneri
good
we have to study finnish swedish and third english
@BFL0W
It would be amazing because you are standing at the end of a long line of men including me.
@MartinPadderborn That's exactly what I'm saying.
유자왕과 임현정은 천재인것 맞는데 가볍고 손열음도 천재지만 무게감이 있고 어떤 부류가 옳은것일까... 두 부류모두 천부적인 재능이긴 하다.
Hmm..."aesthetic dispute", is that the way they used to call it...
As long as you two are still talking...
Oh-and I am truly enjoying your squirming obsequious efforts to please and stay noticed by the august Mr. 705...LOL!

nice very nice girl
Seems, at last, a wise thing to do...
She's Ms. not Mrs. =P
Roto Rooter will do that to anyone when in need of their services...
Well raineri..."1000" times is getting a little fanatical...

sounds like the conductor have some kind of a hand issue ; always shaking. That's would scare me.
Why is it that in Asia, you're more likelyt o be AMAZING at SOME sort of instrument?
Don't bother to answer the troll from 'd2d4e6'...see my post below...
Keep enjoying this wonderful performance...:-)
just listen dang thai song mendelsohn g minor bashkirov is even better that one
Asian Father: Good. Now play backwards.

Conductors do NOTHING. Musicians do EVERYTHING. Fucking Masur should not be turning to the audience after this.
@marcowolfie31 A circus clown more descriptive
@sammy0630 that would not be hard, you have not be looking very hard
LOL---I am so glad you have found the Finn's to play with...but as you can see...they sort of have their OWN mad agenda to troll with; thanks to you now one about why their English is so bad! Perhaps some of your Polish may impress or communicate with their Swedish/Finn souls better?

The orchestra did a terrible job at 6:59.
wang mendelsohn g minor finale is not perfect
