Are you making this simple white belt mistake?

- In Jiu Jitsu, the path from White Belt to Blue Belt is treacherous. There's a huge skill and knowledge gap between BJJ day 1 and BJJ blue belt.
As I'm watching my beginners, this simple framing mistake is the number one reason I observe. If your opponent can distribute weight on you effectively, nothing you try is gonna work very well. Check this out and please let me know if it helps or if you have any questions.

So well put. "Frames never push." Distilling decades of primal jiujitsu wisdom into pithy one-liners for dirty whitebelts like me.
100%. Brown belt here and I got a lot out of this. Great succinct explanation. Going to steal that line!
YeH, really. Simple Wisdom , applied for eternity
Agreed. Habitat I need to break.
I put this into practice today in the white belt class….luckily we were drilling the mount position. I expended way less energy than normal and it seemed a lot easier to escape. Such great advice.
Thanks guys. It’s very cool to me to be able to share with y’all, and then to hear the feedback. I really appreciate the love and I’m so glad it has helped.
"A frame never pushes, it's just a structure." I needed to hear this. I always assumed that you had to push using your frame. Thank you for your wisdom and videos! :)
Boom!
I needed this video too
White belt - My coach/instructor is constantly telling me frame, bridge, shrimp - hard as hell when a black belt is mounted. Sucks but part of process. Thx for video.
SO HELPFUL.
Used this is class today and watched people get super gassed out while I still had energy to keep going!
That’s exactly what I want for you! Keep leveling up!
One of the lessons I learned that really helped my game was the concept of being sticky in all directions except for the direction that you want them to go. This concept of framing fits perfectly with that idea.
Make it hard for them to go where they want to go. Frame, make it uncomfortable, and when they get frustrated and try to go the other direction, you let them go easily and you slide into your more dominant position. It’s amazing how quickly someone loses focus when they’re finally able to overcome that annoying frame you’ve posted. They feel that they’ve finally found that opening, so they put everything into it. All you have to do is let them overcommit and just slide around to their back, or go with their momentum to sweep them. It works like a charm.
dont have a blue belt? sign up for a online gracie class. they hand out belts like candy
You just described pretty much my entire guard game 😂
I’m in that white belt grind to blue, and these are indeed mistakes I’m still prone to make due to panic and lack of experience. These foundational concepts are the best thing for me to be reminded of, so thank you very much for a great lesson!
Have you been able to put this idea into practice since you watched the video?
@@brandonmcninja When I roll with my coach, developing my frame has been my top priority, as well as getting totally to my side when trying to shrimp out. He's working on his long overdue black belt, so he continues to have plenty to teach me about it. But I try to remember your phrase when I get in trouble: frames don't push. I'm getting better at using the natural stability of my long bones to keep partners at bay and it keeps me from needlessly gassing myself by pushing for no effect.
"frames never push, it's just a structure to be more offensive or survivial". This is so well put, I am gonna try it in class.
Liked and subscribed. I am a smaller white belt that has been training for about 6 months, constantly getting crushed and passed. This was such an eye opener. I can't wait to try this on my next class. Thank you!
How did it go?
@@bojanpanic7277 I would say quite well. It helped me stay off my back quite a bit. Most of the people at my gym are up around 180-200lb mark and I'm 160 so I noticed a big difference in not getting crushed so much
Omg. Thank you for this video. More like this please. Very helpful for someone like me who has been training for a few years, but can't figure out the little bad habits that are preventing me from finding the next levels of my game.
These are the small things that really make your Jiu Jitsu pop!
Rollin on floor laughing. good vid brandon. so much truth. i used to get crushed like ALL the time and try to push my way out. now i still sometimes get crushed but not nearly as often. I am also super comfortable in mount- just by framing, maintaining posture, connection & sensitivity- and i can time and feel my openings for escape!
I'm getting a tad older and feeling it when I roll vs the younger mma guys, so I love the subtle details that can make a huge difference and confuse them as to why I'm able to make space and keep them from controlling me. Your teaching style helps a lot for giving me concepts to apply in a multitude of ways
That’s awesome to hear. Looking for concepts and principles to solve your problems is gonna help you keep evolving and becoming more efficient
just punch a mma fighter in the face. they got soft chins. ask jake paul.
I’m a 4-stripe white belt that really needed to hear this. Especially guilty of it side control. Thank you!!
Right when the video came out, i was discussing with my friend about the reasons why I’m still not blue belt yet, this vid was like god answering my questions 😂
@Greg Lurik I’ve been training for 1 and half years, some of my friends who started at the same time have been recently promoted to blue belt. The frustrating part is that i don’t really know what I should focus on, and I begin to feel those intrusive thoughts like “I’m phisically retarded” or “I totally suck”, I hope it gets better :P. It relieves me to know I’m not alone #whitebeltpower
Dude you should get the free course on how to stop getting crushed.
Go to www.bjj365.club and it should be there for free
Thank you for watching. im really really glad it has helped you guys out.
@@brandonmcninja it says 29$/month, at least in mobile mode

@Greg Lurik i needed 3 years but i went from 1 stripe directly to blue.
This was incredibly insightful. Thank you.
-A White Belt
I throw up frames, but I have been doing them at the end of the lever, making it harder than it needed to be. My frame game just got leveled up, thanks B!
Dude you have no idea how useful this video is. I'm a white belt and I have always struggled escaping mount or just stopping the arm triangle. This video is so helpful, keep it up!

There are some jujitsu channels that just "CLICK". There are only a few channels that I use for my jujitsu diet. B-Mac is one of them. Sometimes in our process we miss a few fundamentals and need a reminder. Thank you.
So accurate. I tell the new people, "never push". It's that simple.
Obviously you might occasionally NEED to push, depending on the situation, but I think it's good to start from "just don't", and explain details later.
I can't wait to try this out tonight, thanks professor!
Already has blue belt… still watches.
Just got my blue belt, and I love the crucial information that was presented here .
I am too old at 50 years old to push anything. The secret to “old man strength” are frames that use structure. A youthful BMac taught me that.
You’re the man, G. Miss you
Whats a BMac?
@@jhvnhjifgvbv8126 the person who runs this channel....lmao
This is one of the things I love about martial arts. Framing is one concept that is true in almost every art. At some point, you'll need to have a good frame, be it in grappling or striking. I've studied four different arts over the last 32 years (Sanchin-Ryu, Krav Maga, BJJ and Wing Chun) and they ALL have framing.
I think the reason I dont have my blue belt is because I started 4 weeks ago but this is still useful!
Man, this is what I needed to hear. I’m 42, 4 stripe white belt and feeling old getting crushed (both body and ego) by bigger white belts. I need to exercise less energy and this framing concept was fantastic! Thank you!
Try getting crushed by smaller guys yikes
This was beautiful - all around from the actual content that lit several lightbulbs for me in my bjj journey to the video quality and editing. Many thanks. 🙏
Thanks Luke! Hope you’ve been able to get some use from this idea! Be sure to watch the rest of the videos on the channel. I think you’ll love it
Woah this is the best short instructional ever. Super helpful.
This is great. About 2 months in now and even just watching your videos for a bit I could tell I'm not doing a good job of this. Just the video I needed, thank you!
Ah yes, First lesson from your web classes, your content it's truly a masterpiece
Thank you, homie
Wow!
I am at the stage "trying to survive"... and this 'LITTLE' advice will change my survivability rate ;)
Thank you!
I am 52 and pretty new to this, I watch a lot of videos but this has been a moment of enlightenment.
Thank you, well deserved subscribe. 🙏🙏🙏
Thank you so much for this knowledge bomb, definitely needed to hear this
Best of the best video about grappling frams. Not lying to you bud, been in grappling since early 2000s, and this video beats everything I learnt about grappling frames.
high praise! i appreciate that
Grateful for this. Awesome insights
this is incredibly helpful info and kind of sets off that lightbulb moment, thank you 🤝
Wanted to come back and thank you for this video. I used this info while rolling tonight and was able to both survive and sweep far better (with less effort) than I ever have. I’ll definitely be grabbing some of your instructionals my guy 🤙
“Frames never push” 🤯details that blow my mind and excite me!
Watching this video again to have better understanding and I swear I have a huge grin and I can’t wait to get on the mats.
That's some invisible jujitsu right there Professor
Literally just had this conversation with my professor... frames never move... "you see the door frame over there? does it move? No! Only the door opens and closes the frame is the structure for the door'.
Thanks for this!! I was watching defensive bjj and this one adds more detail to the frame.
Great video! Thanks for sharing the valuable information about this topic. I see myself making some of these silly mistakes.
Great video. As a newish white belt, this is what I need to learn the most.
I never heard that before. Makes alot of sense. A Frame Never Pushes. Thank you.
Mind blown!!! Thank you so much for something so insightful!!!
A frame never pushes!!!!
That last one is pure gold. Thank you for sharing
I respect this video.
“Base” and “connection”.
Without an understanding of those two, no F’in way the GOAT would give you a blue belt.
I should know, Rickson gave me mine in 2004, and those two words were painted all over the blue belt test.
Did you get past Blue Belt?

This was incredibily helpful. Thank you!
Really helpful. Frame approach here reminds me of old taichi structures too, certainly helps with with a soft but solid approach - high level principles, for sure.
Funny you say that, I’ve always been fascinated by Tai Chi. Obviously, it’s not a fighting style, but some of the principles and ideas held in it have been formative to my actual Jiu jitsu game.
You have a great simple way of making your point.sure wish I could have had your help 20 years ago thanks
this is perfect. I'm a very lightweight guy and I always had this problem of weak frames. Thank you so much!
I watched this video several times. Thanks!
You are a wonderful teacher. I actually learn how to teach (high school History- at BJJ I'm a 54-year-old scrubby blue belt lol) from your way of being. Color me impressed. Superb channel my man.
Oh that’s really cool to hear! My wife was a high school match teacher for 14 years. So I understand your struggle 😂
Thanks, Brandon!
Really needed to hear this, thank you for your knowledge Brandon!

Excellent instruction. Thank you!!
I'm a 52 year old white belt.. you just changed the game for me.. i "frame" but pushed..no more though.. thank you and I subscribed!
This is gold! More videos like this one please!
Thank you for this video. I'm a first-year white belt and my mission of late, after recovering from a couple minor rib injuries, has been better framing. But I definitely push with my frames, even when I don't exactly intend to push. I'm excited to apply "frames never push" tonight and beyond.
This idea is gonna help you get to your side more easily and keep people from putting weight on those ribs.
You weren’t lying, sir. I took a few weeks to really focus on frames during rolls. My ribs feel great, my escapes are getting better, and it’s just plain fun watching my partners waste energy by trying to push through solid frames. Good shit, man. Thank you.
@@HalConick this makes me happy
Oh shit, Ive always been pushing. Thank you Bmac this is game-changing for a dirty white belt.
More of this please!
needed this! I’ve been getting crushed in side control and mount. definitely need to work on framing
1) what song is this it's fire!
2) I don't know why but I dig your teaching it's really well done.
I needed this! A Purple belt told me I was pushing with my hands instead of just holding frames. It explained why my elbows hurt so much after training. I'm gonna change my perspective this week. I'm still gonna get smashed, but maybe less so? 😵
Excellent!
I'm a blue belt watching this video and questioning if I should be a blue belt in the first place 🤔
Ha ha! I bet you get your purple belt faster once you start incorporating this!
Great tip! Frame, frame, & frame 🤙
My Head Coach just got his Black Belt at 10th Albuquerque. So stoked for him. But as a Whitey Belt, I'm still trying to manage control pressure, and frames. This'll help me out.
See's video title. Without watching any of the video - Yes. Now let me see what I'm doing wrong for the last 2 years.

Thank you for making this video. I am working on this daily. 💪
The elbow frame with smash pass is key. Marcelo Garcia is the master at using it especially to counter and escape the smash pass.
Marcelo is the true GOAT 🐐
Thank you sensei. Brilliant yet simple lesson. Osss.
No need to call me sensei. Just call me Brandon. I appreciate you watching and I’m super glad it has helped you!
thank-you video is absolutely fantastic. It pains me to say that I had to give up practicing jiu-jitsu, despite my deep passion for the sport and proudly holding a purple belt. The reason behind my decision wasn't because I wanted to quit-it was because I finally mustered up the courage to share my truth and come out as gay after keeping it a secret for so many years. Living here in Greece, it turned out to be a less-than-wise move, as it caused my jiu-jitsu community to distance themselves from me. It's been tough, but I'm hopeful for better days ahead.
2:15 - I see a lot of high level competitors use their knee shield with their knee on the hip as you describe. Good video, thanks!
