Fantastic, fantastic, fantastic - thank you!!! Also, if you ask Siri to play something in Spotify right before setting up the automation, what you played comes up under suggested actions so you don’t even need to set up the shortcut. :)
(This worked exactly as expected, even with phone locked and ringer off/focus on. iPhone 14 Pro Max)

Wow a very precise and informative video, I had to watch it a few times, and with trial and error, I got the shortcut to work, I’ll test the alarm feature. Thank you
this doesn’t work for me- it tried doing it but required my password
From the video and comments I got enough to get this to work, but I think an updated streamlined video would be helpful. Asking Siri to play a song or playlist via Spotify, then appears to make a shortcut to repeat the action. First time I ran it, I needed to unlock the phone, then hit play, but when I set it up again, that requirement disappeared... Really clunky still and Apple should add it natively to the Clock app.

Such a great way! Thanks for sharing. I recently read this book, Science of Sleeping and apparently musics that have subtle starts such as Good Vibrations by The Beach Boys can wake you up better! I hope people find out this great tool that you made and wake up better :) cheers!
Oh I tried this method tonight and it won’t work saying it could not open Spotify :( It shows the lock screen and then fails. Any ideas?

When I pressed run shortcut it didn’t come up with play Spotify track
I tried with the playlists I have and it didn’t work. Is it possible that your shortcut may have something extra I’m not seeing, or it only works for certain playlists in Spotify?

Awesome! I tried it, and it works. I tried a spotify playlist link and saw the prompt you added that it only works on single tracks. My ultimate wish would be a "Alarm playist" opening on "shuffle" so one song of many possibilities has the chance of waking you up in the morning. Do you think that is possible?
Possible. Ask siri to shuffle your spotify playlist a few times. Such an action will be available in Shortcuts, then you can use it.

It seems such actions require Spotify premium. Let me know if that is what you want and I will work on it.

after run this shortcut...looks like shortcut runing always...need always manually off. can you fix this?
you can use @Renee LeClaire in comments method, which is better. Then add a wait action and you can set like 1 minute or so. Then add a Pause action.

you can get the shortcut from desciption and then you can see all the action in the shortcut. then you know how to create one like this.

Why it stopped working? The Siri last played song is no longer an option among those suggestions
Just needed to turn on and off the Siri suggestions - not sure, either in general or for the app Shortcuts. Now working.

You can get the shortcut from the link in description and then you can see the actions.
Just make a custom ringtone for your alarm
God damn me, it works. The shortcut, however, did not, it needed my phone to be unlocked. But because the automation using Siri somehow plays the song in the background it workds as an alarm, although it is not unlocked.
Can you explain what you did to get this to work?

The only issue with this is you have to leave your volume on while you sleep at night which isn't ideal.
You can make a shortcut to turn your volume up as well
