Using Personal Automations To Play a Wake-Up Song, Podcast Or Playlist

- macmost.com/e-... New iOS 13 iPhone Shortcuts automation are great, but you can't have most automations play without manually confirming first. However, you can have an automation triggered when you stop an alarm, which leads to some interesting uses. In these examples, we'll have a song or podcast start when you turn off your alarm. We'll also create a more complex shortcut to play a playlist matching the name of the day.

does this work for youtube or spotify that isn’t premium? i dont use apple music :(
Same lol
Anyway to make it play a Spotify playlist or song??
Antitrust lawsuit?
Copy track link from Spotify and have the shortcuts open the link
Man I don't know why I bother looking elsewhere. You channel is the reference for all things Apple!!!! Thanks man. This was very helpful.
Go to shortcuts --> Automation (bottom center of the screen) --> Hit the plus sign --> Create Automation --> Time of Day --> Select Time --> Select Play Music --> Select either the song or playlist
Would work for the same playlists everyday? Or has to be done for specific days like he showed in the video
There is a simple way to use any player as an alarm; just record blank for ten hours and then capture whatever alarm sound you'd like and then just play with vlc or what not and start the playing accordingly. Example if you start playing it at the two hours mark; then eight hours later you'll get your sound that you added. Cheers and thus then you have a saved alarm sound that you use anytime. And if you'd like; you can record blank for ten hours and just chose automatic playing the next video and then do the same thing and just add both to the vlc playlist and your sound will play after your silent clip has finished.
This is awesome; it's exactly what I was looking for, and the directions were easy to follow. Thank you!
What a straightforward tutorial and the subject is very easy as a use case. Thanks!
Slowly but surely growing, nice!
This is a great tutorial! Super helpful and very straightforward! Is there an updated version of this with some of the new features in iOS and is there a was to automate shutting the music off?
Thank you for this tutorial, was really helpful
I also use the transfer playback option to play the music on my Airplay 2 connected speakers (I use an Airport Express for that)
Interesting! I’m learning a lot with your videos.
I’m trying to link/play an Amazon music playlist after snooze is pressed but it just opens the playlist but it doesn’t start playing. How do you trigger it to play after that playlist URL is opened?
Can you upload a video on how to setup specific podcasts on specific days
You would need to just add lots of actions to check the date and play one podcast on one date, and other on another date. I can't do the work for you, but I can tell you it is possible if you have some programming skill.
So great!!! Thanks a lot for that!
Is it possible to create an automation that will open a playlist (predifined) in Apple Music on Apple TV?
Thank you so much!
great video gary you just gained a subscriber :)
A method for doing this to play spotify is to use Siri and say "Play [playlist name] on Spotify" and if you you say that a couple times it will come up on suggested actions.
Didn’t work for me.
what if i want to play a specific podcast episode, could i do that?
I tried doing this but it won’t play it only ques it up.
Great video, in the latest version (IOS14) you don’t even need to activate it
How can I get a RUclips video to play or at least any video I have saved?? Please
What’s about Spotify?
That’s what I was wondering
Katelyn L me too
Instead of selecting media, search Spotify and select your song.
@@u6okii946 it doesn't work...is there any other way?
@Justharxie ok I’ll try that! Thanks!
Thank u sm
Thanks!
Is there a way to make sure the podcast plays the most recent episode? or is that already part of it?
Not sure. Try it and see. If not, play around with that shortcut action to see what is available.
This deserves a sub. 👏
I don't see that app on my samsung phone, what app do i use?
I want it to connect to radio instead of playlist or music how can it be done
Can you make it play a song from 3rd party app?
That app would need to provide actions into Automator to facilitate that.
Really I love your videos ❤️
Is there anyway that i can play the Newest podcast day morning?
Thank you, this video is really useful, but can I play the song from my photo studio?
Not sure what you are asking here.
@@macmostI use Google translation 😂 I meant (bring a video from the studio when the alarm stopped) and I was able to do that, thanks again
Hi, is it possible to play the latest RUclips video of a channel every morning instead? Specifically David Lynch’s weather report, which he does daily.
I suppose you could work it out. At least have it go to the main RUclips channel page or the playlist page, or maybe do a search for the the right words and date as part of a RUclips URL. It will take some work, but maybe.
thx
rly
I was wondering whether this function could be done with spotify?
Spotify would have to add code to hook into personal automations.
How do you select WHERE the music is played? Ie on a homepod for example.
It should just play from the current output, but that may be difficult to do if your iPhone is the device executing the Shortcut and you use other things with it.
Mine Doesn’t say automation
Can i use youtube playlist?
For RUclips I paused the playlist the night before then did open app RUclips then play in shortcuts
do you know how to play the latest UNPLAYED episode of a podcast? mine is always one day behind or something
I would assume you just manually choose it if you want to skip.
Does this work in Android
Is it still like this can we switch it to .. “do not ask?”
then how to use it with spotify? 😔
is there a wake to make a shortcut to wait like 20 minutes to become active. For example i have my automation set up when my alarm goes off my phone will tell me the weather and traffic but 20 minutes after it does that id like it to start warming up my car. i know how to activate the warming up the car shortcut im just unsure how to make it wait 20 minutes before doing so.
Just set up a second automator for that time to warm up your car.
Is there a way tp play music only after my alarm is turned off AND after I connect my AirPods?? Both have to happen to play the music.
No, I can't think of a way. But if you are taking the action to take out your AirPods and put them in your ears, tapping the Play button on your iPhone isn't that much extra. In fact, if you have something cued up, you can just double-tap on AirPod to start it playing.
How do I do this on android
I see the video is from 2yrs ago. Is this still true that you can’t run an automation at a specific time?
On an iPhone or iPad in the Shortcuts app "Time of Day" is the first choice in Personal Automations.
I would like to have a different podcast episode play everyday but it keeps playing the same newest episode. I have looked for hours for a solution, played around with the settings on he phone and on the podcast app... but can’t find a solution =( help please!
It makes sense that it would play the same newest episode. Not sure how it would know which one you want to play otherwise.
macmostvideo ok =( I set up the “morning briefing” from the gallery. And I guess that means, everyday I will have to list the same podcast episode, unless a new episode uploads... well, at least I can stop looking for a solution xD thank you!
I keep getting “an error occurred”. :( sad face
(Setting a podcast shortcut)
Why not just have the alarm play the specific song
can we to play a downloaded m4a file
Not sure offhand. Try actions that will open the file at its location.
How can I use a particular sound instead of a song. For example I want to play a sound when my battery hits 100%
I don't think there is a way to trigger something when you battery hits a certain level. (Note that there is no reason to unplug your MacBook when it gets to 100% as it won't overcharge or anything like that. Just leave it plugged in until you need to use it away from power).
macmostvideo okay.. what about iPhone? Can it be left plugged in ??
@@SmartinDsouza Yes, of course. Most people plug it in at night and let it charge while they sleep.
Haha so what is the point as I have to wake up on a noisy alarm? It is annoying man! The only way I found and pretty smart using do not disturb. Thanks for the effort though
Thanks so much!
I have created speak texts so Siri can read my schedule to me in the morning and tell me the weather as well. My only issue is when I run my shortcut on my phone clicking the play button, it will work properly and go to my HomePod. However, when it is run through the automation by clicking stop alarm, it plays the speak text through my phone then plays the music on my HomePod.
Do you have a fix for this? Would probably need to share the shortcut for it to make sense!
Sorry, I don't know as I don't have something like that set up. Keep playing with it and maybe you'll get it to work like you want.
this is awesome! I want my alarm to trigger playing worship music to get my newly wed wife and I to get up and worship together!
That’s incredible great story greatest of luck
@@kateandemersonscrazyworld6929 thank you!!
I cannot pay for Apple Music.
You'll need to call Apple Support to figure that out.
Thank you, very helpful
