Just switched to iPhone from Android recently, and holy crap this is so convoluted.
On Android I just took any MP3 and set it as Ringtone.

Thank you!! iOS 17 Beta eliminated several standard ringtones which was upsetting. This helped me regain use of my preferred tone. This video is extremely helpful and worked perfectly!

Can you do an update video of this with the new official iOS 17 update? For text tones, the option does not show up anymore
I don't see any "Convert to Audio" among the choices after I added shortcuts. So what I did was screen record jujutsu kaisen opening song on youtube, then using safari I searched for convert video to mp3 after converting I downloaded the mp3 and it went straight to my file then I followed your garage band instruction and it worked, oh my gosh! now I can have any songs that I like as a ringtone. 🤩🤩🤩🤩

hi, i would like to tell you about some bugs i’ve been noticing while using the shortcut, on my iphone, i’ve only managed to get it work once as every other time it only shows half of the “files” menu , i can’t seem to fix that, and also on my ipad, there’s this bug where sometimes i can’t even get the shortcut to do anything

I need shortcut for taking audio's for video edits. This is wonderful that it made my work easier now.
Ios17 iPhone 14 pro max. I think this worked but it does not show up on my list of text tones to chose from. It just shows default when you click on sounds and haptics and to the right of text tone. Not in the list. Not sure why. Maybe Apple did that on purpose with iOS-17🤷🏼♂️

I’ve managed to screen record, Garage Band is ready to go.
I’ve got the Short Cut App (followed the process & pressed add), when opening the screen recording I tap on the share button & there is no ‘convert to audio’ option… I keep trying to do this part, however can’t progress any further.

@@saflanali I'm not sure how long they will keep that around, given that they've already killed of the iTunes branding on the mainline app (and replaced it with Music).

What I'd really like is for Apple to offer a default ringtone for specific phone numbers - not for incoming calls, but for my own two or more phone lines on my dual SIM iPhone.

well it would be chaos if everyone had extreme bass boost phonk drift music going off in class/at work. imo keeping it this way makes it so people who shouldnt have custom ringtones, dont have custom ringtones
Technically it is easier than this but Apple wan't you to pay for ringtones not use it for free. These methods are work arounds, that's why it's a little more long winded

This seems complicated with lots of steps. I know this was to show how to do it without computer, but with a computer and itunes it is much easier. As for edit and trim the music file can't you just do that in the photos app by clicking on edit? And then select that sound file as ringtone in settings.

Hi, I downloaded your convert to audio shortcut. When I select the "send to" button, on the list this shortcut only says "to audio" rather than "convert to audio". when i click on it, the page for recordings comes halfway onto the screen then freezes and stays there until I darken the screen. Why is this happening, and how can I fix it?

Ever since I updated to iOS 17.4.1 my shortcut for convert to audio disappeared. I tried looking for in my edit to action but it isn’t there. I redownloaded the shortcut as well and still doesn’t show in my edit to action.

Thank you! I ended up doing this a bit differently. I also used a RUclips video (it's an old melody you'll never find anywhere else), converted it to .mp3, put it in Apple Music, converted it to .ACC, put it in it's own playlist, synced ONLY that playlist to my phone (I hate iTunes/Apple Music) and then imported to Garageband from there. Obviously I used my Mac, but it's another method.
It's a shame you have to jump through hoops to accomplish extremely simple things.

The convert to audio didn’t work for me. Having trouble to add the shortcut but after I be able to add it, I followed the instructions, I go to album, click on the screen record video and click the share button, scroll down to click the ‘convert to audio’ but then nothing happens. No file, no nothing. Do you guys know why.? Please help

Don’t know if you’re still wondering but after you do all of that you have to open it in a file because it doesn’t know which file to put the converted audio in, so just find or make a file then you press convert audio and put it in said file

The main problem with this method is that if your screen recording gets messed up or interrupted, it's not easy to fix it. In addition, there may be quality issues with certain sounds.

i downloaded a FLAC version from a random website on my pc and uploaded to icloud, it worked

When screen recording make sure you turn your volume all the way up before screen recording and screen record with your volume at 100% for the best audio quality one thing he failed to mention of course everyone who has screen recorded in the past should know this for the ones who don't letting you know
You do realise even screen recording with no volume and then turning up the volume after will still give you sound quality no matter what

I do have an iPhone however i ca'nt find the same alarm tone I used in my Android phone and I only wake up to that specific ring tone every morning before work. I'm so worried about not waking up on time because of it and had to search for a way to download the same alarm song on my iPhone. IT WORKS!!!!!

I think apple changed this on the newly released iOS 17. You can no longer set the tone as a text tone, new mail or sent mail alert.
