I knew a DMU Driver on the Eastern region in the 1980s on these units ,he`d get on the unit about 10 mins before leaving , and sit there watching all the enthusiasts come in to sit behind the driver and get settled ,getting all their cameras and the like ready etc etc.All excited about watching the view ahead .Then about a minute before the departure he would drop all the night blinds down!! Even in the middle of the day!! Complete bastard he was!!
Have great memories of going to Carlisle and appleby on 37s and 47s and i even remember York on 45s, but i loved Huddersfield to Liverpool on a 47, Im 33 now but I will never forget loco hauled.
I sat at Blea Moor for about fours hours in the 80s in the snow on a leeds -Carlisle cos the 47 failed!! Didn`t half get cold!! Luckily I had my sleeping bag with me!!!
