The run between Oxenholme and Penrith goes through some spectacular scenery....i went through there just a couple of weeks ago on my way up to Edinburgh and again coming back down last week....certainly one of the highlights of the whole trip.
Excellent video, only had time to watch from the Lune Gorge to Carlisle as that is my favourite piece of track. Used to farm in the Penrith area in the 80's and after a difficult week used to go to Carlisle station on a Friday afternoon to watch the trains and people to unwind!! Thank you for the memories.
I live en France. So excuse me if my english is not perfect. I have seen a lot hove can ride in Portugal, Belgique. Luxembourg. Suisse. Italie etc. Also i was cherching some cab ride in the UK. But there was nothing. Also it is mervellous to see that now it is possible. Thank you very much and continue to make cab ride in the UK.
Ah, a split shift working (or something like that). I wondered why the weather improved so quickly at Preston - and I was so looking forward to Shap and Beattock in crappy weather!
Great vid, can I ask a question regarding neutral sections, I recently watched a vid of a class 87 over the same route but at Carstairs carring on to Glasgow and on approach to neutral sections had to return the power controller to zero and then reapply once section ended does the same apply to the class 350?
We are supposed to shut off power through neutral sections but no harm is done if we forget - there is eqiupment on the track which ensures no power is being drawn through the section. The main reason for shutting off now is to prevent the jolt of the power being suddenly removed.
I'm a Train Operator in the US, and would love to move to the UK and be a Train Driver. Would a TOC consider hiring an American? I do know immigration is quite strict in Britain.
Does it matter what side of the gangway you drive on as in your driving from the left of the gangway but could you also drive it from the right of the gangway?
This may be a stupid question, i don't know, but as you are travelling north why are the various tracks referred to as 'Down' lines? Great channel by the way - love it!!
@@beneliastrains Now that's just confusing! But i take your point - anythng moving away from London is down, but anything moving towards it is up? Anyway, love your channel, it is helping to alleviate the boredom of lockdown :)

Signals at start from guard and driver aknowledge to move off...others are AWS which driver has to answer or train stops.....1 every mile. pause on 1:37 humped elongated device in tracks says hello and driver nust say hello back lol...its modern version of dead mans switch I think double beeps are signals green and no need to cancel iirc signal sends signal to cab and needs reply signal...as driver passes said signal.
@@CopenhagenRailProductions ty, I had to google the acronyms but I get it now :) What happens when the driver needs to go to the bathroom though and has to stop pushing the DSD?
Cydonius1 the driver can only go to the bathroom, during the break. By then, the train will either be taken over by another driver, or it’ll be switched off.
the ping is when you're approaching a signal at green (you get a sort of boop if it's yellow or red), and the beep-beep-beep-beep is the vigilance alarm that that the driver has to acknowledge periodically

Fantastic weather, the scenery going up from Lancaster over Shap always impresses
That scenery was so good it almost made me cry! @38:40 and really the majority of the video.

I really enjoyed that. I love the journey through the Lune Gorge!
Damn, what a gorgeous church in Preston in the beginning of this video.
It is St Walburge's, and has the second highest steeple in the country (after Salisbury Cathedral).
Great video. Really enjoying these route learning style vids. Any plans to do a video on this route in the Up direction?
I've not yet done the WCML north of Preston-it's on my to do list.
Very Good quality VID Ben. Subscribed
fab video ben i wanted to know if you could do a video from carnforth to barrow in furness
I agree with you. I'm originally from Barrow.
He hasn’t got route knowledge for the section

I have always been into train spotting

they likely would, and immigration would likely be a formality as it's a well paid skilled occupation.
Matthew Bratton I’ll be looking for your British videos!
Great. Drivers eye view not second man's view
Strange that there was that one section before Carneforth with level crossings.
Its called Hest Bank, there is a cafe, and a good few parking spaces facing Morecambe Bay, ideal for dog walkers, and having a picnic.
@@derekofive9676 Thank you for replying. I love learning the history and geography “at ground level,” so to speak.
Does Station House, Oakley, Bedfordshire, still exist? If so,somebody send me a pic.

There are only controls on the left side of the cab

Down is generally away from London on lines which go to/from London
@@beneliastrains Logically it should be the other way round surely!! Thanks for your reply, i have learnt something :)
@@2760ade nope because south of London the lines heading south are 'down'.

Ben Elias have you never heard up north and darn sarf
What is the idea of flashing signals? This is a new one on me.
They indicate that you will be diverging from the main line.
Thanks Ian - Tim

I suppose the speed is indicated in kilometers/hour?
no
Read the description. It's MPH.
Nice clear vid..did the gangway latches pop out ? ,usually do in the 150 too....buggers lol... 350s good acceleration they are quick off the mark.
No, just put the camera too close to it. Oops!
whats the video resolution please.thanks
