  • A driver's eye view of the line from Pwllheli to Barmouth and Machynlleth. This was recorded in the summer / autumn of 1993 (I think) from the cab of Derby Lightweight DMU M79900 Test Coach Iris.
    There is a commentary mentioning features along the line such as stations, level crossings, mileposts etc.
    It is as recorded except where I've edited out a couple of long stationary waits!

    This is such a lovely ride on a clear day, so sad the Welsh coast weather did its usual bit. Thanks for taking the effort to share, I really enjoy these cab ride videos.

    Very surprised to see the crossing open to road traffic as the train entered Porthmadog station at 22.00.

      That particular crossing was operated by the driver by stepping out of the cab and using a control box next to the track.

    • @ChangesOneTim
      @ChangesOneTim 2 года назад

      That was normal when trains cross, as the first one in has to wait for the second to arrive and return the token before the Up (southbound) driver can be issued with a token to leave. That procedure took a few minutes and the road would be unnecessarily closed otherwise, so the crossing controls were designed accordingly.

    Shame about the weather! You missed so much info, the Barmouth tunnel how long, when constructed etc. The life boat slipway under the railway, and about the Mawddach estuary bridge, what it did when it was last opened, (where the tidal reach up stream was) when it was attached by ship beetle how many wooden supports there are etc.,etc. 5 out of ten

      Thank you for your comment.
      The video was created by British Rail for their purposes, which is why the commentary only talks about mile posts, level crossings etc.
      If you want more historical information on the route, may I suggest the Video125 offering!
