      gerry6420 how many knives do you use I was told that the machine can't take in the grass as well with full set how did you get on how many did you use?

    • @gerry6420
      @gerry6420  7 лет назад +1

      Ciaran Skehan ours had 6 knives which was classed as a full set. But you can put 12 knives with it. But u need buy 6 more knife carriers for that. For them to work well, keep knifes sharp, and adjusted as tight to the cutter bar as possible. And make sure your blower blades are also in good order and adjusted out. That was the secret. We also use to sharpen the cutting flails ever 2 seasons just to keep it cutting the ground clean.

      Do u cut direct or lift rows. I’ve heard of people lifting 8ft rows but we never got it to work lifting them. Kept blocking. There’s an Elho promo video on here somewhere shows them lifting mowed grass but there is nothing in the row. Very light

      gerry6420 we have tyred both using a tarrup in swarts the key was to go fast and not let it drag it in in lumps it uped the acres per hour but it took it's tool on the machine interested to see how the elho will take it in as the hole machine moves much faster and is built better

    • @WayneMescal
      @WayneMescal 4 года назад

      @@alanchatfield5533 I think the book says 130hp max. Gerry has the 6930 on it which i think boosts to 180hp on pto work.

    • @alanchatfield5533
      @alanchatfield5533 4 года назад

      @@WayneMescal ah so she is now in the sort of maximum safety zone of power input lol, jf will have done a bit of derating anyway so 180 is probably max max if you follow, , I used to run a jf on a jd 7700 and then a 7810.. It was ok

    • @WayneMescal
      @WayneMescal 4 года назад

      @@alanchatfield5533 I get what you mean alright, you could probably stick 130hp in the front of it and hang the engine and it would be alright. But yeah what Jf was that you had? A 1050 or 1100 be better to stick behind them big deeres.

    How many acres wud ya lift in an hour

    • @gerry6420
      @gerry6420  7 лет назад

      John Larkin depends on the crop and conditions. About 2-2.5 acres per hour. A bit more in second cut. Out put is slow with double chops but grass quality is still better then anything out of a JF or self propelled

    How the silage guilty with precision chop compared to double chop

    • @gerry6420
      @gerry6420  6 лет назад

      Beef Patrick Oconnell over all id class it better. It always tested very well. The grass was a bit longer and better for the rumin digestion. It also didn’t go off as fast on the pit face. You know if you hadn’t many animals in at the beginning. And useage was slow, it stayed good longer then precision chop. Down side was in a wet year u couldn’t wilt it.

    I never thought these forage harvesters were sold outside Finland (where I'm from).
    Side-mounted Elhos were much more common than pull-type ones in Finland.
    Great video 😎
    Here's one side-mounted from Finland.

      moi, yes the elho were quite popular in Ireland after taarup stoped making double chops. and we’re a good machine. I have seen the side mounted ones also but not many here in Ireland.
