Ah the horror that was driving a series 1 farm master for the first time you steered it and got your arse thrown out of the seat, the envy of those lucky hoors in Volvo L50's and Clarke Michigan's who had the articulation point in front of them... The little things on.y those who've buckraked silage can appreciate. Great memory video by the way, near she a tear when I seen the 'Gandy' powder applicator...I was 16 again.......don't gate me started on those bastard things :-)
Far luckier lads in the john deeres!!! MF 300 series were good but no way as comfortable or as lasting as the john deeres of that time. But john deere were more expensive its true.
Drove a 595mk2 4wd was some pile of scrap........the 298 was a far better application of the formula. Same fellow I worked with had a same laser 110 an animal of a tractor and best thing I ever buckraked with.
Yes I had one myself, a blue and white swb with the 3.2 6 cylinder diesel engine. It was bought second hand in July 1986 and it was 20 Mts old and it came to us here in ballymahon Co Longford from moville Co donegal and its reg was 8410 Ih.
Can someone tell me how did that john deere 2650 not slip of the side of the pit when it was rolling ? Especially with it being so rough and lumpy.. Also is seems like drive as hard as she goes was the order of the day .
Brendan Hough yes that's the way the big man (Sam) operated, flat out. Rolling the silage is just about knowing how far you can push it. I was about 14/15 at one time on the same pit and pushed it above my ability. I had the shame of handing it over to a more experienced driver. Lol
Double chop silage, horrible shite to buck rake. How many outfits were working? do I count 3 x double chops? Massey 595 Used to work for a guy with a 4wd one, gave us awful trouble. I love Ferguson's but has to be the only model I would never own.
The sensible and cheap way to make silage - no need for all this separate cutting then wilting and picking up nonsense we have today. The cows enjoyed double chopped just as much as precision chop!
The amount of silage outfits going at once, it's almost like a communist Russia state farming scene but without the shit box belarus's towing modified Donkey carts and the guys driving aren't doing it under duress :-)
Surf backraking rare sight these days but was the only way with those old shovels to stop the box from cooking:) real power for 20 min then you have to slow her down.
Some outfit back in the day. Good variety. Always thought the MF 595 must’ve been some machine. Never seen one but there was a few 590s around here and they were pretty hardy tractors. But I noticed on a farming forum a few years back the 595 was voted worst tractor ever. Obviously one o MFs disasters. We had a 690 with tb turbo conversion. The 595 surely wasn’t as bad as it
The buckraking is a bit ropey as the pit is looking a bit of a mess, I used to buckrake with a 575 mf and even buckraked with a 135 mostly with the front wheels in the air but great times👍
It out of control ..I suppose he had the problem with the two harvester ...Grass coming faster than to deal with ...Our contractor had two harvest and four tractor and trailers ..No dropping or collecting trailers .....What a waste of time ..I hope he made money out of his outfit ...Harder times for contractors now..
That’s awful messy pit work. They were just dumping the grass , not continuing up the pit to pack it. The edges looked like there would be a foot of waste come wintertime.
George Doorley ah that’s grand mate, just after something to bridge the gap between a small artic loader and a larger wheel loader which will be a waste purely on bale work and muck shifting
Very good video brought back great memories of my teens👍
We have a Farm master the exact same as that it’s 1989 and pushes up our silage every year still
It's nice to see these days not every piece of machinery is a modern one
Brilliant 👍 Brings back memories

Fantastic little movie of Agri past times, Keep them coming if you come across anymore 👌🏼
Should have, well my dad should have anyway. I'll have a hoke.
Jaysis great to see the row of Frasers
Pure gold!!
I wonder who the lucky lad was to have a brand new 300 series Massey!
Far luckier lads in the john deeres!!! MF 300 series were good but no way as comfortable or as lasting as the john deeres of that time. But john deere were more expensive its true.
great find, reminds me of carting with a massey 165 as the "new boy" now that was fun .
cheers .
same as myself except i had an 188 , power full tractor back then
So many classics you would very rarely see today in action like that same and mf 595
we still have 2 590's and a 595 mk 2
@@anthony342 we used to have a 590 but then traded it for a 690. 590 was far better

Can't beat the real thing than some of thee working days classics
The Nissan patrol was the Jeep to have in the 80s.

shame you dont see them often anymore
The nissan patrol in this video was 1st Registered in November 1987 so this video must be silage 1988 or 1989.
Cool video. How modern that Same looks compared to all the others.
That's one hell of an operation...
is that a JD 3350 ? haha and a kidd double chop. I still use ours topping!!
Amazing 👍
I loved silage time as a kid
class i drove one of those farm masters great loader but needed aircon
whats song?
All the grass is beside the clamp in them days now it's all nearly long haul back great memories
Still with in a mile draw Thomas
Milk truck better hurry and pick up! Nice video.
What sort of herd size was on that farm the time of the video? What is it today?
I’m thinking at that time he was milking about 350, wouldn’t be as many today

My ole boy used to drive a 412 the same as that for a contractor brill wee shovel
love the 595
What's the song at the beginning and end ? Thanks great video
John Watt I think. A local country singer.

Here here ha
You ought to try a 298 we had one same engine as a 595 enough said
The 590's were rubbish too, very poor traction. You wouldn't buckrake with one.
Retro video 👍
What the song at the beginning and end thanks great video
I’m pretty sure that’s John Watt singing. He’s a local country singer.

What a mess - but to be fair they should have had 2 more machines rolling with that muck grass coming in!
Lots of gent passed since so calm during dinnerhour

Real men ,proper cows
Even with three double chop harvesters you would still only cut sixty acres a day at best 😂
You'd be doing well to get 60 in
@@78mikehayes very well

Maybe from 5am to 10pm
still driving a 412 farmmaster daily .........
George Doorley What year is that bud? Been trying to find some feedback on the original ones before the one we have our eye on comes up in auction

ThorTwenny I would guess 1989 as because of the 300 series MF with a silver cab
