yep, i felt it overwhelming sometimes in the process but then SO freeing :) so lets keep doing until feeling this point of liberation and joy, a rebirth then ;) as you express it in this video ;) thank you SOOOO MUCH for what you express and create for helping people.. you shine purity, it is so so vibrant evident, thank you :)
No, never. I love paring down my things. I am the sort to do "Spring Cleaning" all year round. When I have to move, moving with the least amount of stuff is easier than with more stuff.
that minimalist life style is my dream. but unfortunately there is still an emotional attachment to the things we buy. the first step I took was to start giving items that had little emotional attachment to people in need. thank you jane for your lesson 👍👍
@@khalilpetrovsky4534 step by step and as we feel :) with pleasure along the journey as doing slowly allows to feel clearer what we want too :) and we might keep some stuff in a box in a parent house. not a lot. one or two boxes.. as i feel letting go is liberating for sure but each one has his own needs process and path :) take care ;) and keep going ;)
@Solitude Of Heart i understand, the same,.. not easy.. but then we become super careful before buying something :) for sure we get more conscious for next choices i think now ;) wishing you a good vibe for your continuation :)
I used to have piles and piles of stuff. Then things in my life changed. I lost my best friend, my parents, grandfather, my dog of 13 years. Became a victim of a violent attack and totally lost interest in stuff. I donated everything starting from clothes to shoes to furniture to books etc. The clothes I have now can fit into a medium sized moving box. My home doesn’t have much of decorations but only the essentials. I barely purchase anything for myself. Not because I am cheap but because I am simply not interested anymore.
Dear Leyla, so so sorry for your loss, big big hugsss to you.
Lot of love to you
Hi sweet Leyla. my real name is Leyla too. so i felt called to read your comment.. and it resonates with my path so much. i send you all my compassion. i had 8 losses in the same year.. ! and relatives too.. and some in traumatic situations..even if in all case, traumatic is a loss. and lived a lot of deep horribles situations too.. and so i felt to rebuilt myself starting by letting all go, and same.. starting with clothes, then books, decor etc. and same, now i do not buy a lot. i keep what i feel very useful and have not a lot in the tiny flat as i even sold furnitures. i feel more free to have less and to let go the past with it. and be more in living the present.. and feel not interested at all by having more too. just feeling better now that way. i have a tiny box for books and notebooks. and i tend to offer the books when read. just keeping few that i read many times. and clothes same. all fit in little box. our house might seem not to have a lot but for sure.. inside your heart is full.. and the lovely in you can shine now in that pure space. wishing you all the best for you now :) take care sweet heart ! if dark vibes came to our path, it is because your light is very bright for sure and now for sure you are stronger to keep up the lovely that you deserve in your life and strength to create it as you overcome all of this. sometimes i wonder.. why all this.. but then, i know that we can turn all in lesson, to stand up back and keep going. with no judgement of what one does or not. i know it is not easy at all. i even can not imagine as i did not live all of it. i wish you sincerely all the best !! 🙏🌟😘
Lots of love and Hugs Leila. I've only lost my mum one year ago and it feels like I lost everyone. But for you, I can't imagine how hard it is. I'm sooo sorry. Virtual hugs.
It is amazing how trauma and the pain through grieving oftentimes changes our whole perspective on life realigning ourselves with the priority of what's genuinely important. I'm sad for your losses, but happy that it's realigned yourself with what's most important. May you continue to grow in wisdom bearing its rich fruit and many blessings. Know that you are loved by God, Leyla. He wants only the very best for you.🙏💖🙏💞
Wow. I just turned 53. I feel this way. I am getting rid of my belongings box by box. It's emotional hoarding. Lots of expensive belongings I thought meant something. No, they don't. Thank you for this.
I think holding on to things is a sign of not having a fulfilled life. You try to compensate the emptiness with stuff and you are scared to let go as that's all you have. I think it takes a lot of strength to declutter but it can be very healing when you get there.
I have a lot of stuff that has a purpose. My life is very fulfilled. Especially now that I am retired. I have a music room since I'm a concert violinist and have a concert almost every month with one orchestra and other performances with an Opera orchestra, then there's the 2 concerts a year with the chorus orchestra. I love to make beautiful music.
My music room has shelves filled with music I love to play again and again.
I also have an art studio with acrylic paints for my canvas pieces. I have one piece hanging on the wall at the top of bedroom stairs. I need my paint studio with easel for all paints. It's very organized.
My guest bedroom is also my library. I have given away so many books deciding to only keep favorites that I want to loan out to family and friends. I have very comfortable seating in my library. I love to read.......but
I have to paint and practice my violin. I have a couple of totes filled with gorgeous fabric to start another quilt. I have Hawaiian quilts hanging on the walls I made these quilts while living in Hawaii. I have 'Yankee' quilts also. I made one for each family member.
So these hobbies take time to do them well. I will not show up at orchestra rehearsal not knowing the music.
I want to make another painting. I don't have time for all I want to do but cannot give up any of them. Why should I?
Is my house cluttered with stuff??
No It's not cluttered, it's very organized. I surround myself with stuff I love. Nothing is kept that doesn't bring me joy!
That’s where I’m at now!! It feels good once it’s gone but wow it’s difficult at this stage of letting fo
@@rebekahb5275 Yes, it is incredibly hard, not helped by the fact hardly anyone (you know) understands and acknowledges your struggle. Almost everyone expects it to be as easy for you as it would be for them. Well done for what you have achieved Rebekah!! I know how difficult it is and you should be very proud of yourself ❤️
RUclips keeps pushing these type of vids on me, as well as 'van living', 'working poor in the US ' etc. Don't be fooled.
The WEF (world economic forum) is behind most of what happens globally : 'you will own nothing and be happy'. They are behind these videos being pushed/glorified, getting people used to owning nothing ! 😡
It's definitely tied to what makes you feel fulfilled in life. I'm working finding more constructive ways to feel fulfilled.
My husband of 34 yrs passed away last Nov 2021. He and I were only 54 yrs old. I had never worked because he took care of me and our children. He was a wonderful husband and father and I am still so very heartbroken. I have been wondering what in the world am I going to do now? I don't have an income and very little money. After watching your video I have found a new hope to seek out new things and not try to hold on to my old life. I can pursue simple things that don't require a lot of money and find something more important. That is peace and joy. Thank you so much.
I went from married, corporate job, 2400 square foot home, with all the bells and whistles, to being divorced, working as a ticket taker at a museum, 500 square foot apartment, with my well curated items. I love it! Oh and I struggled financially my whole life and now I am on my way to financial freedom. Amazing how that works!
My husband and I, at 63 and 68 years old respectively, walked the 800km on the Camino de Santiago. For 38 days, all we owned was on our backs. I carried 6.5 kg and Ian carried 8.5k . When we returned we started our downsizing of so many years of hoarding. I had changed countries 15 years before so it was only 15 years of stuff. But my hoarding was as a result of growing up poor. Ian, his was just because he just hoarded, mostly tools, screws and small boxes. My son called us serial hoarders. Me, I said everything has a soul memory. It is 4 years now since we started. It was extremely difficult but we are getting much better now, mostly because we have realised that we are old. My motto: find a place for it to live where you can use it, or CHUCK. I had 53 pots and pans! I now have 32. Still too many. But I can’t help the palpitations and sweating every time I walk past a shop selling these items 😂 I will eventually get there.
Amazing read. Well done on starting. Its not always perfect liniar progress. But youll feel lighter and better for it. Would also love to do the camino de santiago some day
@@lilylebowsky5908 it will change your mindset in so many ways. Because not only will you start discarding the physical stuff, but also the psychological. Especially the psychological blackmail and manipulation, perhaps unintentional, of family and friends. The freedom is incredible. Of walking away or burning of bridges for your own highest good. You will travel your own journey on your terms. And you are young.
thank you Hazel Em for sharing about your own decluttering journey. I learnt so much from your little note. We all have our weak spots lol mine is books whilst yours is pans i guess. but i completely vibe with your point about the psychological associations - its so hard to dissociate the people and memories from the stuff.
Over time your downsizing muscle grows and you decision making regarding keeping/donate/give away / trash becomes fine tuned and faster.
I'm
I'm doing this at the moment. Getting rid of "stuff" before hitting the road to travel with one piece of luggage and my backpack.
You are now a teacher Jean. Your voice the background music but most importantly your message resonates. Please continue.
When you think about it - having loads of things just means that you are stuck in one place guarding material things, Freedom and happiness is having only the basic things that you need.
So true! N eventually paying for the storage space for all the stuff!
I can feel you. I quit my corporate job in 2019. I have let go most of my fashion items since it didn't give me excitement anymore. I am more content to spend my time in solitude now at nature environment.
Hello 👋 how are you doing?
I am presently struggling with clearing out a townhouse in which I have lived for 25 years. Thankfully I happened upon this video which I believe will give me some necessary inspiration.
Thanks for sharing. A home of 25 years is surely filled with so much memories and stuff that represents so many different moments - can only imagine what you’re going through to let all of that go right now. But remember you’re making space for new experiences in your life too following the declutter 🌻🤩
I sold the family house after my parents and brother died. Their lifelong stuff and my stuff too had to go because it was an expensive anchor retarding my move to Vietnam. I still eventually shipped too much across the Pacific, but zero regrets. I look back and it was such a relief to let go. I took photos of cabinets of mementos, shelves of books, digitized paintings and art with my iphone, as a way of preserving memories. And you know - almost everything is replaceable.
I found it easier emotionally to clean out in phases, I did it over 2+ years. And it gets easier after you dump a bunch, and find out - That wasn't so bad!
I also believe that it is ok to keep some things, no need being a militant minimalist whose possessions fit in a carryon bag.
@@JeanVoronkova very inspiring Jim . Thank you for sharing
Inspiration???? Hmmm, motivation probably, but there's other thing that could help u better, its called common sense, there's no common sense on follow the trend or even pilling up things, and how people are prone to buy lots of things that just bcoz it was offer for half price or even less than half, they think it is saving, but to what point, if it make a pile in ur house that make u forget that u already buy it before, than u just wasting money on things u already bought. Don't have to be in one day or one week change, but if u start understand this, little by little u get rid thing s that are not needed
In a similar boat. We are moving to a new house this week and I just finished packing up our apartment that we've been in for only 1byear and I really sed that u need to embrace minimalism. So I plan on leaving things in the garage and sorting slowly. I wish I had some help to do so but as time goes by I'll figure.
I don't know how this found my feed but it was needed. I'm 36 and this is my first time hearing the term "Emotional hoarding". Thanks for that, it's exactly what I've been doing with a variety of items I know longer use. Learning to let go is a process.
letting go is cathartic though :) good luck with your own journey
Jean ~ Love that description re "A lawyer trapped in the body of a surfer!" ... So happy you set yourself FREE ⚖️ = 🏄
As a traveler myself, the constant challenge is not to buy something to take home from each place I visit. I would reason, I don't know when and if I can visit this place again, so I filled my luggage w/ lamps from Istanbul or wooden sandals from Japan and practiced weight-lifting before boarding the plane. I dragged my suitcase through cobblestones in Europe. I'm older now, maybe wiser, and my backpack is lighter than what it used to be. 😊
Hello how are you doing?
Dragging heavy luggage through cobblestones streets. Yes, done that! Xx
This video spoke to my heart. My eyes teared up. Her sweetness and vulnerability about sharing her journey is moving.
Yeah she definitely seems pretty sweet
So nice when we think for ourselves. Trust ourselves and trust God's guidance.
Thank you, Jean ❤
You were the voice I needed to hear right now at 53 years old. My husband and I are preparing to leave Australia in pursuit of a simpler life, creating memories and challenging ourselves to live in a minimalist environment. I’m so scared but so excited at the same time and watching this video resonated.
There is nothing to be scared of - but of course you are challenging your whole programming of what is right or wrong. I am a single man that sold almost everything 2016 and lived without permanent address for six years in Sweden during summertime and in Australia, Greece, Italy winter time. Now I am 65 with an apartment since may in Sweden. It is very noisy and was a real challenge but moving 1/1 2023 to a new place. There is alway something new and better you can choose. Life will always change and it feels much better to make the decisions and chocies from yourself - life will change anyway.
I watch House Hunters International quite often and there are a lot of people moving to Australia for a simpler life. You can move anywhere in the world but don't bring your baggage with you.
The irony is that My wife and I were considering to move to Australia for the simpler life
@@Airavida Australia is wonderful! It is an easy life (mostly) but I think we all want (need) a change from what we are use to and we look forward to living a different life outside of Australia for a while. Cost of living has risen here considerably, I guess this is a worldwide issue at the moment. Where are you moving from, Nick?
@@martinesykes655 we are in Singapore! 🙂
I so enjoy the calm manner in which you present your videos. I love getting rid of stuff, it gives me incredible pleasure to see things moving on to another person who can use it. I learnt during my time in Bali that less is better 🙌🏻🧡
You have a big heart Sonja - it does feel good doesn’t it? I saw people at the community library immediately picking up the books I donated and it did feel good to know those books will bring joy to them too as they did once to me. Thank you for tuning in 🤗🌻
Agree, Jean calmness comes through on RUclips and is an inspiration and a refreshful reminder of the utility of a Zenful mindset. She serves as an inspiration to those of us on the journey of finding self, seeking truth and advice on decluttering of our minds for self improvement.
same here. i went through a major house renovation and took the chance to clear out stuff. i realised i wasted sooooo much money on useless stuff. when we moved back in with much less stuff life felt so muncher better
always a bit shocking when we pause to take stock right? the stuff that adds up when we aren't paying attention!!!
This is great. A month ago we had a hurricane destroy our town. The surge flooded everyone’s homes so people lost all their material items. All along the streets you see people’s lives as trash in front of those homes. Been a great lesson for everyone here on what’s truly important. A lot of people died/drowned here.
You express what I've been struggling with. I feel like sometimes I am living a lie. Things do not bring us happiness.
Sad truth 😫 but good news is your own actions and choices can, and it’s never too late 🌻
Absolutely, material things do not bring happiness.
Sometimes they do. I love looking at the jewelry tjat has been passed down through family generations. That "stuff" has a story and I love it. People like to oversimplify the concept of owning "stuff".
@@ASMRyouVEGANyet of course, you're right. i was speaking in general terms for myself.
First time here, your voice is so soothing, especially with the messaging. I’m on my one decluttering journey. It’s been a good solid 1-1.5 years. And although I know I have gotten rid of 1,500+ items. I feel like I’m 5% done. It’s suuuuch a journey. It’s impossible to do overnight. Thanks for your general encouragement. 😊
My own life has been full of travel - forced travel and relocation in order to stay working. I've had a dictum - if the "stuff" that I own doesn't fit into my car, the triage begins and the "stuff" gets pared down until it does. No more storage lockers. And I found once I started that, the sense of liberation that you speak of took over. There is a joke in the US (not a very funny one, but ironic) that houses are essentially warehouses diguised as homes. And you are very correct in saying that paying for something doesn't stop once you've bought and paid for it. You become a servant to all that "stuff" and have to live your life in such a way (whether you enjoy that life or not) in order to support the maintenance of that "stuff". Once you begin to see it in that light, buying and owning all that "stuff" doesn't have so much appeal anymore...Great topic, Jean!... 🙂 ...PS - I suspect there are some Buddhist or Taoist roots in your philosophy... 😉
I have always been a huge earrings fan since my teenage years. Used to collect every pair I bought or was gifted. 4 years ago I began my minimalism journey and got rid of approx. 80% of them, keeping only those pairs which brought me joy. Recently, something happened to my ears (it seems I cannot wear anything that is not made of gold/steel/titanium) and was thus forced to give away 3 more pairs (that I loved but could not wear due to itchiness). Although at first I was quite upset because of my passion for earrings, later I felt surprisingly ok, knowing that what I now have I can actually enjoy. Minimalism brought to me a great, and unexpected, mind shift.
Great video Jane🙂 I was thinking to do the same for the past few years. Then in June I got into action. I have cancelled my apartment, sold or gave away nearly everything, and left to Mexiko last month. Like you I only took one suitcase and a backpack with me. So wherever I am or will be in future will be my home. I don't know where I'll be in 6 month, and that's exiting. I'm 62 years old, so it's never too late 😉
How exciting! You are in my age group.I am taking care of a parent, otherwise I would go somewhere warmer too, but in the meantime, having less of everything makes me feel more comfortable and stress free during the long winters...
@@smallhouseinthemeadow6131 Your time will come 🤗
👏👏👏
Sentimental things are the hardest to get rid of. My dad bought me my first acoustic guitar when I was about 13 years old. I don't see my dad anymore. Last time I saw him was probably 10 years ago. One day my dog knocked over the guitar that my dad got me and broke the neck. I cried when it happened. I had the guitar for 20 years. I kept it in the garage hoping to fix it one day. One day it hit me, the guitar wasn't my dad. I kept it because of the memory of my dad. He is still around thankfully, but I just don't see him since my mom/dad divorced when I was little. I don't miss the guitar, but I miss my dads presence.
Hi Nick, thanks for leaving this note and sharing about your dad. That really resonates with me. I've had a very complicated relationship growing up with my folks, but i love them both so much - just that there's so many communications barriers esp w Asian parents you know? It doesn't help also that i'm a bit of a black sheep in my family. I have a lot of stuff connected with my mom and dad that i'm super tied to, but its a big step to recognize that the stuff isn't what we're attached to, but what the stuff represents. I hope you get a chance to spend more time w your dad too.
Maybe the broken guitar is a message from the universe to call your dad. We often don’t listen to the signs we are given and suffer.
a good luthier can fix that guitar no problem. they either use special glue or replace the neck. having an emotional connection to an instrument is a beautiful thing.
Broke the neck Omg I thought it was the dogs neck... U should contact your dad no matter what. I didnt conntact mine, everybody was saying I will regret itt but I was too hurt or proud or wanted to show him how I thought he hurted me and last year he died. And I saw everything they said was true. Its hard. And its too late, I can do anything about it.
You learn a lot! Been doing the same for two years and went nuts lol. Still trying to adjust to getting used to coming home to much less. Overworked, stressed, exhausted from cleaning. Now my life is so much easier. We can’t take possessions when we die x
Hi Jean...I liked this very much. I am 76 this Christmas. Mmy lovely x-wife from Indonesia (after 24 years together) and a beautiful 24 year old daughter decided to divorce me. The toughest thing was not the "letting go of stuff"...in fact I gave it all... house, car and everything to her since I knew I could replace it by working if I wanted since I am an active, still very much business consultant. Your comments caused a "tear in my heart" for the memories of the loss but the joy comes from what you say we do when we move on and up in our lives, and about how we think of ourselves and still respect and love others!
Bali was my first anniversary and we lived in Jakarta six years before having to leave Indo in 1997 due to the "Asian Economic Flue" which also affected Singapore. By the way I love Singapore, who wouldn't right and Crazy Rich Asians!
I gave up my marriage I did not want to give up and everything I personally had a right to but chose to let her have it so I still have beautiful memories in my heart and every time I see my daughter I swell up with happiness and joy because she is forever in my heart. So, "thank you" and please "you and your husband" feel free to visit my website (www.the boss can. com) if you want and you can see my daughter under "Consultants" page on the site.
I pray that you two will be forever happy and that if you have children be sure and share what you had as a child since it does seem like your parents were doing the best they could based on what they learned growing up, to give you a good upbringing.
Thnk you again and God Bless you both! Wayango!
I’m happy for you that you have come to realization early in your life. It took me until 50 to start feeling the way you are feeling now. Keep going!
You have so much wisdom at yr age. I admire your courage to stand for what you believe and love to do. I'm in my mid 30s and I feel trapped in the corporate world because I have a mortgage and a baby not long ago. The more stress I am, the more I spend unnecessarily. I'm never materialistic but the stress just accumulates and spending is an outlet for me. Thanks for giving new perspective lens and validations in another. ❤
I’m probably one of the two people on the interweb who pays RUclips for not having added ads put in front of them. Thanks for missy for re cluttering a bit.
haha its good to be generous to yourself! I'm still on the ad version for now - simple living and low budget lol. Thanks for watching hey
@@JeanVoronkova Yeah I like your stuff, but you are so different than me. I wonder how you do it. What do you do with all the empty space you freed up? I do love my stuff, and most of it is high quality or good enough for me to use professionally or good enough for me to enjoy doing it, even if I'm just learning it. I got guitars and drums and photohgraphy and video equipment, 3d printers and wood working machinery, rollerblades, bicycles and all kinds of little bit of different stuff. I'm turning 50 this month and still do stuff like in my 20's,. perhaps a bit more graciously and with a bit more insighht. I do get rid of stuff I really don't use, absolout no problem, but I do use most of my stuff and many of the things I do I get paid for doing or could get paid for doing, but I also love helping people and often help people for free. Only time I feel inspired to excessively gettingh rid of stuff, is when I watch "minemalist" videos. I wonder what I would do with myself if I didn't have all these tools and stuff I use to do other stuff, I really do. and I do live in a HDB in Singapore. I did have a stessful job that almost killed me at some point, both spiritually and physically at some point, but I'm glad those days are over, but I guess I have always been this way. You keep up the good work and stay happy Jean :)
I am doing this too. I am trying to practice non attachment and rid myself of the majority of my possessions. I feel much happier ☺️
that's really the key to it all isn't it - non-attachment to our material goods. I'm still practicing everyday!
@@JeanVoronkova absolutely. I was a bit of a non believer at first and it really surprised me just how much better it made me feel!
I have been in the process of getting rid of clothes that are not all that flattering on me, or are either too small. I have also been getting rid of a lot of handbags as well. It has been surprisingly easy for me because I know that sooner or later I will be moving and honestly I just want to have maybe 2-3 boxes of things sent to me once I get settled the rest can go in my suitcase and backpack. Plus I know how much stuff my mom has right now in her 3 bedroom 2 bath house that I will have to go through and deal with by myself sooner or later and I dont want to burden my daughter with a lot of my stuff later. I want it to be super easy for her to deal with my stuff in the future. Thanks for sharing your journey in getting rid of your things. There is no right or wrong answer when it comes to being a "minimalist" or getting rid or not get rid of possessions.
I'm glad to see I'm not the only one. This literally, is exactly what I'm doing. With each piece that goes, it leaves room for more fulfilling things to come in, and it doesn't have to be stuff.
I have been purging as well, it is a feeling of "this is the first day of the rest of my life" My parents hung on to stuff. It weighs you down, yes! and storage!!!! I am going through my past marriage photos, soooooo many photos, I have it down to 14 photo albums, I know, Im still working on it😋 After all when you pass, you cant take it with you, when you get old, you will forget about it all anyway.
Respect to you beautifull soul🙏
I did the same....had a lot of stuff and give it away....i am reborn and 42 now. It cost me 2 years everything.
My happyness start inside me and not with extern factors like status, money, material things that are relativ and empty.....
We live in an illusion and matrix where people dont know who they are but try to cover it up with extern factors.....very sad.
Blessed 🙏✨🍀
Thank you from 🇨🇦 for the gentle nudge towards freedom. I started the process and most recently helped a friend empty his ailing parent’s condo. The sheer weight of decades of accumulation was an overwhelming experience I do not want my own children to go through. It’s so much better to actively let go. Wishing you well!
I came across this video 1/2 hour after realizing that the biggest thing I want to accomplish this year is getting rid of half of what we own. Not in a position yet to chuck it all and travel, so I have to keep the things needed for home maintenance and cooking healthy meals etc. But no more of the "in case I need this" mentality. Your words of wisdom were exactly what I needed. I feel more excited about life than I have in a very long time! Thank you!
shedding things can really make one feel a lot lighter! Wishing u luck xoxo
I’m still struggling with this even after throwing away a lot of my stuffs. I’m trying to live a minimalist lifestyle but I live and hang with people who are not into this which makes it hard to stay on this path 😅
When I first became minimalist, my husband was not on board, but when he saw how relaxed and calm I became, he became minimalist too. You can just show people by example...
That is the root of the problem 🙂
*stuff (not stuffs)
Thank you for sharing your story. I can hear the peace and contentment in your voice. 😊
Thanks Jean. Simplicity and minimalism can bring inner peace, but this is a lifelong process. It is easy to get caught up in what you want from what you actually need.
I have been in the process of decluttering for the past several years. I have gotten rid of a LOT of stuff, and still have a fair way to go. I have sold some, and received quite a bit of money, only a fraction of what I spent on it of course, but the extra funds have certainly come in handy. Much more has been given to friends, family and the thrift stores. It feels good to be lightening my load. Like you, I may never become the total minimalist I am striving to be, but I am very mindful of any new purchases, and I am slowly whittling away at my excess belongings, as I feel ready to give them up. Very liberating!
You don't have to go full minimalist.
i am in the same process since few years . liberating is the word in fact, thank you for all the sincere you share in your messages 😘 :)
Thanks for your honesty and openness about your life journey.😊
I love ❤ this video so much! Thank you for sharing your story and courage with us!
Hello, Ms. Jean. thanks for sharing this- I can relate very very much with decluttering- it is still a struggle but I am beginning to declutter now in all aspect of my life and. Indeed- it is liberating!
Your video came at literally the perfect time as i have been reflecting on my life.
I’ve made the decision to basically do the same thing as you’ve done.
Thanks for the video
Thank you for your video. I got rid of so much stuff a few years ago and it was great! I felt free. But, over the past year I have noticed a few things piling up again, and it’s definitely time to check in with myself emotionally. 🙏❤️
Love it. You’re on a journey that I would love to achieve in the next few years. Thank you for sharing your experience and insight into your personal moments.
Ahh I love this video so much! I can really relate to the “former lifestyle clothes and possessions”. I’ve lived many different lifestyles, trying to be things and express my personality through clothes. But as you say, it’s such a liberation to not do that! To wear functional clothes and to spend money on our dreams instead ❤
Great video thank you. I’m learning to realise that “stuff is stuff” and it’s not a necessity in life. I’m turning 32 the end of this year and I think with age and growth I’m realising these things on my own with help from videos like these.
Soooo beautiful and honest!!!! Spot on on everything you mentioned!!!! Thank you for sharing 🤗🌺🌈🌻
I love this!! Your voice is so peaceful and calming.
Thanks for this video Jean because this is what I have been thinking recently. I am now gonna sorting out my closet and let go of some stuff😊🥂
Hello Jean, Your video really touched me - I have been on this journey for many years. I am choosing to move to a smaller space to be near family in the New Year -So I’m giving myself 6 months to declutter. I believe that this process is a mindset first and foremost. I’m getting there, so thank your for the insights and honesty. Blessings of Light, Sollena
All of a sudden Jean has become my hero. Decluttering ones life is a beautiful thing. Many of us live the corporate lifestyle which often includes crowded subways, road congestion, office politics... but swapping that for the superior true beauty that life has to offer is the way to go.
love your video and your content! it's made me very happy and your voice very calming! thank you!
Your story is so helpful and touching, calming and soothing.
I can relate to the material things and want to make a change of life style. But I have way too much baggage then you. Not just the material clutter, I have children and waiting for divorce so it’s not easy to pick up and leave. But my dream is to go back to my birth country “Thailand” to live a simple stress free life. But thinking, what do I do for work, how’s my kids education gonna be like, would I have enough to start before I can make a living… One day when I figure it all out, I will take the leap of faith… Thank you for Sharing your story❤
This is me! I can't wait till the day I am free! Thankyou for sharing your story, very inspiring 🥰🥰🥰
Your voice is so very calming and easy to listen to. I can relate to so much of why you say. Thank you x
I am glad you found your happiness this way. I am glad your video is bringing joy to others. It is not the same for everyone, of course. I love doing what I studied and more on the side. I love wearing different things and have a nice style of my own. It is not to show off. I never buy brands, but whoever becomes happy by them should buy them. I like having a style. Life is short and we need to make the best out of it. So, everyone should get in on it as it pleases them. Having a lot of stuff is not a miserable thing all the time. People who are unhappy down on the inside try to bring a blame to something. It is either you don't have stuff, but oh, if you had a lot of stuff, it is all of a sudden having too much stuff. Happiness is neither in stuff whether it is the abundance or the lack of it.... Sad that it always comes to stuff... We are here to do the most with the life-time we are given here. Sad you couldn't find it in protecting people through law. Hope you are happy surfing and with whatever that brings to this life, other people and yourself.
Love this video. Minimalism is the way. I got right into it 10 years ago and it changed a lot of things in my life, but consumerism creeps up on you very easily so it's always good to go through stuff (stocktake) every few months or so, and it always amazes me that I still have a bit of stuff no matter how conscious I am. The most liberating part about decluttering is the letting go of emotional attachment.
Hi Jean, I'm also from SG and can totally relate on Asian upbringing. Watched this a few minutes before the new year 2023 and you've helped me create my new year resolution - to look inside and create a life I want. Thank you and here's to the best of 2023 for us! xoxo
This is one of the best, most inspiring explanations of minimalism I have ever heard. Thank you for sharing from your heart.
Beautiful, refreshing & calming. Though I totally believe in the concept but I am still holding on to a lot of emotional clutter. It’s a message from the universe; because this video popped up out of nowhere the moment I opened my iPad. Thanks for reminding me that there is a lot of homework still pending ❤️❤️
I love every word you shared. Just completed my own journey and your thoughts resonate with me ❤ Happy for you, held on however to my childhood teddy. It really is hard letting go of things, but I noticed they took over my life and I was residing somewhere in the past.
Me too, I’m way attached to my memories of the past. But trying hard to live in the present everyday
This is exactly where I am at in my life… This video is so refreshing and beautiful, sending you all the love and happiness, thank you❤
This video made my cry a little bit. Just wanted to say thank you for sharing 😘
I appreciate this video so much. I have a history of hoarding stuff due to emotional attachment and growing up poor. I’m going to start my journey of selling my things or donating. I can’t take it anymore. Thank you for this video and by the way I love your soothing voice
Hello Jean, proud of you. The best way to enjoy this life is not having attachment to things. Anything we purchase can only give temporary pleasure and anything just in case would stay with me for maximum of two years.
What an inspiring video 👏🏼💗 I really appreciate you sharing your story and insights. Your voice is so beautiful and you have such a lovely way about you. I am in the midst of lightening up. Going through 35 years of stuff. Painful to let go of some but I see your point. I will be more discerning and feel lighter ❤ thank you
I am so happy I came accross your video. Your voice is calming, and you have a captivating way about you.
Everything you say is so true and definitely made an impact on me thank you so much.
Momentos are the hardest for me to get rid of as well 😅 But yup planning to do some decluttering at the end of the year to make space as we prepare to step into 2023!
OMG! I badly needed you right now! I'd been looking around my house to make some space for my baby but not sure how to get rid of so many stuffs that I accumulate for nearly 15 years! So thankful to came across to this video and look in forward to see more! I love you already!
Liberating and inspirational, thank you!
This video made me cry. Thank you for your amazing words ❤
love this mindset. enough is enough
It’s true. And actually, enough is really not at all a lot of stuff 😅🌻🦋
Completely understand. Exactly where I am right now in my life. Thanks for sharing .
You got this girl :) its hard to let go off, but a relief once we have done so
Thank u for a great video again! Watching this in a middle of a typical singapore working day during lunch is like a much needed breath of fresh air to remind me what is impt n my bali dream
Jean, i love ur sincerity in sharing…. It touches ur viewers
Great video again! Amazing how little we actually need to lead fulfilling lives ^^
Or should I say the less we have, the less we are locked to the “matrix”!
Thank you for this beautiful video. I left my job a year ago to pursue what moves me to joy. While I have never had a lot of “stuff” this video has motivated me to truly start to cultivate my things down to the true basics. ❤
Hello how are you doing?
You have such a calm tone in your speech. Thank you for sharing your journey of letting go of your stuffs. I'm still struggling . but i will slowly start.
Love this. I’m on this. Your video is so helpful. Thank you so much. New subscriber.
Hi Jean I like it when you said thanks for watching your video. It is a 2way relationship. We are blessed by your sharing too. I am on a minimalism journey too but found it very hard to throw or give away things of sentimental values. I am still marching on. Stay blessed and happy, Jean!
Me too 😅🥲 it really does tear at the heart to get rid of the mementos… I don’t think I’ll get rid of all of it tho. Esp those connected with my mom n dad. Some attachments in life are meant to be detached. Some might be meant to follow us for life maybe? 😅 but the general stuff I’m really glad I shed. Feels so light after. U keep going u!
I just found your channel and can I tell you what a great speaker you are. This video really spoke to me, I’m currently on my own minimalist journey. What started off as slowly simplifying my life, I realized that I need a lot less then I thought, that I want to go one step further and that’s where I am now, minimizing everything to make room for what matters most ❤ I look forward to watching more of your channel ❤
Wow! That's inspiring! I once had a closet full of clothes but nothing to wear. When I learned minimalism, I got rid of clothes slowly. I constantly decluttering but I like to shop and buy stuff too. This video is very helpful to remind myself that stuff are just stuff. They really only make you happy for a day or so. Thank you for sharing your experience! ❤️🙏
Dziękuję bardzo za pomocne porady.
Amazing video! ❤️ This video articulated everything we care to admit to ourselves and just laid bare the truth about how material things, clothes and stuff are all just a costume or pretentious facades to impress others. Thank you for being so straight forward and exposing the truth about how material things many times enslave us rather than serve us in order that we may have better quality life.
thank you Geri, for such a kind note, i'm glad the video msg resonated with you :)
Thank you Jean ,I need listen to this now ,I will have courage and get rid of my no longer need stuff and go forward ,I am 72 years old and I believe the best is yet to come ❤
so true - the best is yet to come!
I have yet to do this, but must have felt somehow liberating! Thanks for sharing, much love from Singapore 💕
Happy to find this
inspirational video
of yours. After losing my husband a year ago i find it hard to let go of things. And now im a step closer to start to build a new life for me.
Thank you for sharing your personal thoughts
I have been planning to do this last few months and I am endeavour to carry out my decision
Thank you for given me the will and say yes just do it and you will fell so much lighter and better !
🙏🙏👍👍
U will, everyone says they do! Just be brave and carry on through 🌻🌸
Great video. Please could you do a video on important questions to ask yourself and please relate it to possessions vs life purposes. That would be so helpful. In this materialistic world full of distractions, it's so hard to distinguish what's really important. Thank you. ❤️❤️❤️🤗
Thank you for sharing. You have such a soothing voice and spirit!
This was so well timed. Thank you. Even your sponsor was something I will find helpful in my life.
Jean, Your emotional honesty in sharing your life lessons is refreshing and reaffirming. If there were awards for inspiring RUclips videos, this post would be a winner. Congratulations in coming to understand that we can never truly be free so long as we are owned by our possessions.
Things always define us cos we let it define us. In this materialistic world that we live in now, sadly money is more important than relationships in most cases. Great story jean...never fail to amaze 👍
Thank u Mr Moo Moo, hope u had a good week just and nice plans ahead for Sunday 🤩 money and things vs relationships are really our own choices to make in life most of the time 🤓
👏BRAVO👏that you were able to gain this perspective while still young to get yourself out of the matrix...the matrix of work, work, work to earn, buy, earn, buy...and then we die. That realization came to me late in life, post cancer that has been a game-changer. It's forced me out of my career, still in transition before I find my way into a new way of living with my new norm since surgery.
But I had this thought last week that'll help me in the areas I've been struggling to declutter to the point of minimalism, and that is to ask myself, "What does this item say about me? Is that the old me? Is this item going to take me where I need to go, or is it even needed or desired in this new life that'll make me happy?"
Remembering Lot's wife, she was to leave her past and move forward into her future. The family was specifically told, "look not behind thee" (Gen 19:17), however one family member did look back and that was Lot's wife (verse 26). And because she did, there was no moving forward and no future.
So there's something to be said that what served us yesterday, may not necessarily serve us today or where we're going tomorrow, in which case, we need to practice and get good at letting go. Thank you for sharing your story, Jean.😘
This is one of the best minimalism videos I have seen, it was soothing and authentic, thank you for sharing your journey, it's helping me in mine.
