I'm not Korean but I have learned this so far: There is a hidden rule about what happened with 색연필 and 유럽여행 which made them pronounced like 생년필 and 유럼녀행, but knowing this requires that you have known some Korean vocabulary first. Korean words are generally divided into two types: native Korean words and Chinese-based Korean words. Chinese-based words are Korean words that have a Hanja (Chinese characters) equivalent, while native Korean words are those that do not. For most Chinese-based words that start with ㅇ, including 연필 and 여행, consonant assimilation happens by converting the 받침 of the first word into its nasal form (i.e. ㄱ,ㅋ to ㅇ; ㄷ,ㅌ,ㅅ,ㅈ,ㅊ to ㄴ; and ㅂ,ㅍ to ㅁ) and then adding ㄴ to the following word. This is because historically, and even in present-day North Korea, words such as 연필 and 여행 are actually spelled 련필 and 려행, as is the case with many more Chinese-based Korean words.
That is a good idea. But addingㄴ rule is not relevant with the Chinese based Korean word(Hanja). In Korean grammar this is called 'ㄴ첨가' It happens when a word is compound word or deprived word. And if the former syllable has 받침 and the later is 이 or semivowel(야, 여, 요, 유, 얘, 예...etc.), ㄴ is added. You can find many examples which don't have Hanja. ex) 솜이불[솜니불], 한여름[한녀름], 맨입[맨닙], 집일[집닐] And ㄴ첨가 rule can be combined with other assimilation or replacement rules. Those are examples and the process of pronunciation change. 홑이불 [혿이불->혿니불->혼니불O / 호티불X] 부엌일[부억일->부억닐->부엉닐O / 부어킬X] I hope my explanation is helpful and sorry for my English😉

Hi, I’m learning Korean and I’m loving your videos. It’s helping me a lot, so 감사합니다. About the thing you mention in 9:36 I think linguistic phonetics can help us understand what happens here, which I believe is the same that happens with the pronunciation of number 16 in Korean (correct me if I’m wrong, please, I’m trying to help but I wouldn’t want to comment with wrong info). The thing is that Korean vowels like ㅑ,ㅕ,ㅛ,ㅠ,ㅒ,ㅖ have what phonetics call a semiconsonant. We also call it (informally haha) a diphthong, but it is more like two sounds, the first of which is not a full vowel, but a mix of a vowel and a consonant (hence the reason we call it a semiconsonant; w and y in “well” and “yell” in English are a perfect example of this). So what happens is that the batchim in the example our 선생님 used has a semiconsonant “hidden” that alters the normal consonant assimilation process that happens normally with the sequence of “consonant +ㅇ+vowel”, because it is actually as if there was a consonant following ㅇ, not a vowel. Let’s take the example: 유럽여행, it looks like “ㅂ+ㅇ+vowel (ㅕ)” but it is actually phonetically like “ㅂ+ㅇ+semiconsonant+vowel (ㅕ)”. I don’t know if that applies to every case (I guess not, since phonetics have many variables), but I’m pretty sure you could find other cases of this phenomena. Again, thanks a lot for your videos. They are helping me with the alphabet and the assimilation rules, wich were driving me crazy (even tho I studied phonetics in uni haha).
Me counting the hours I will be learning Korean: Okay. It is just one hour. Me after learning consonant assimilation: Okay. I studies for two hours. I need to take a nap for ten hours. But srsly tho! This is so helpful! I was able to understand things clearly. I will surely finish the entire series until I can become a fluent Korean speaker. Which will probably take like 1 to 2 years tops.

Just want to say that I started my Korean language journey a few days ago. I thought it was going to be really hard, but I realized that I can actually somewhat understand Korean when reading. I was so shocked! your channel is my favorite. thank you so much for doing this
For me, as an 13 years old german girl, is it so helpful! I wated to learn Korean so bad, and finely found this channel. I think the fakt that I can understand this lessen very well even if it's in englisch (i studdy englisch one and a half year in school) says everything. Really, I'm so thankfull...
i think this is the only channel in all of youtube, internet etc that explains in such detail and clarity about consonant assimilation. i am so grateful 😊
I'm learning Korean to finally understand and get ahead when reading manhwas, and also speak the language when I ever transfer to Korea in college. This channel has been SO helpful so far and is much simpler and easy to follow compared to apps I tried to use when first trying to learn. Thank you so much!
I have been trying to learn Korean from Korean from Zero, I have almost completed the first book, but to improve my spoken Korean I have been surfing through RUclips for so long, and this channel is the best and super helpful. I mean literally 'the best'. Thank you so much for such amazing content :)
I will call you 선생님 from today. 빅키 선생님 You teach really well. Every topic is so well taught and we'll presented. Thankyou for making Korean so easy for non-native speakers❤️🙏
I’m so thankful for these videos. you have to put a lot of thoughts into deciding how to explain the rules in an easy way (which you totally do!) and it has to be a lot of work to make these videos! 감사합니다!!!❤️
I feel like I'm in my foreign language club in school :), the fact I'm supposed to learn Japanese i just went with Korean, also I find Korean easy to understand then Japanese, thanks Ms.Vicky you are a big help in learning
I usually don't comment over YT videos but you're a gem of a teacher. You have imagination, understanding and the spirit. I can read and write korean in just 4 days after seeing your videos. Understanding is yet to be done 😂

this is the best korean class for any foreigner and i am really glad that i have one of the best teachers .even though i have never seen you but i am learning really well thank you miss Viki
I'm confused ,if there's a lot of words wich it pronounce the same how do you distingh it?! "The best helpful useful channel " i ever seen Thank you so much for your effort >.
just like 개 is dog and 게 is crab, they are pronounced the same but can be distinguished depending on context for example: “What a fluffy 개 you have!” and “What a red 게” you’re not gonna say what a fluffy 게 right? so you can distinguish depending on context. hope this helps im really bad at explaining things!
It’s just like how in English there are words that are pronounced the same but mean different things like there/their/they’re. It just depends on the context, you’ll know which word they’re saying depending on the sentence.
@@rin-ez3pr yes this is exactly it. I think some people don't realize in their own language, they also have words that sound the same but have different meanings and it also depends on what context it is used. Just because this is a different language, it might seem more complicated but it actually isn't if you think about it.
I easily get bored after seeing two or more videos realated to language learning. But you are so good in teaching that where the time goes I never understand. Please continue teaching. You are really good at it! 💜
At 4:20 of this class in explanation I am getting confused at the sounds of "jiuet" and "chiuet" as they stand alone(not in batchim). The ch sound vs the j sound almost sounds the same. Is there a tip, as with digeut, as to what the tongue or mouth should do when making this sound? I'm getting the batchim part of things I just want to pronunciate as correctly as possible. Thank you and enjoying very much.
I already did your leraning hangul and batchim part 1 videos. I understood most things well so I'll be continuing with part 2 another day, thank you for your great teaching skills and patience.
That's why other words like "같이" read as 가치 it's because its sound change rules if you don't understand watch KOREAN GO BILLY HANGUL I'm just a beginner too but I like to share all I learn while I'm studying Korean
I'm so glad that I met your channel. Your method is one the best I've seen on RUclips. Thanks for helping me (and others) to improve my (our) speech. Greets from Brazil. =D

And i'm so inconsistent that it's going nowhere which is stupid on my part cause i could've been waaaay better than i am now.. my problem is that i need someone to idk teach me instead if my just reading a textbook? Idk if that makes sense.. you make us feel like your actually there with us teaching us in real life or something and that is what i needed!! I will be watching all your videos and i'm sure i will become better at korean. You explain everything so well, i love you omggggg ❤🙌🏾 i really appreciate your effort and so do your other viewers 😊

@@runjhundeka7114 You can use pomodoro, you study or do anything else for example 25 minutes and then you take a breake about 5-10 minutes ( i am no sure if is right that explication but you can find videos in youtube explaning about pomodoro )
Sorry if is to long
Thank you for your advice 😊
@@matipp3475 are you learning Korean?

I just started korean and I'm so lucky to have found this channel so fast.
She is really a good teacher
I don't know how am i going to learn so much. Consonant assimilation is so difficult. Your videos help alot but i don't know how to learn all of this. Miss vicky pls can you make a separate video for telling where to start for korean grammar and the sequence in which we should learn korean grammar. Pls i want the sequence for korean Grammar. You r a amzing teacher by the way. Keep it up.
Love you.
This lesson is really hard, but I think I’m getting the hang of it. I just need to practice more. It’s making sense ☺️🤔😊
Just want to say that I started my Korean language journey a few days ago. I thought it was going to be really hard, but I realized that I can actually somewhat understand Korean when reading. I was so shocked! your channel is my favorite. thank you so much for doing this
Thank you once again for this video! I still get confused, but with practice, I will get used to them!~
For me, as an 13 years old german girl, is it so helpful!

Looks like this : 옷
Should be pronounced like this : 옫
Actually pronounced like this : 온
My mind is like this : o_O ??!
true yaarrrr
I've watched many korean stuff so I kinda already guessed what the sounds could be. Kdramas and kpop helped alot!
I have been trying to learn Korean from Korean from Zero, I have almost completed the first book, but to improve my spoken Korean I have been surfing through RUclips for so long, and this channel is the best and super helpful. I mean literally 'the best'.
Thank you so much for such amazing content :)
고맙습니다 선생님!!
It is so helpful channel and easier to understand it has no competition with the other channels that i have seen so far
i love your channel, unfortunately im italian so i have to follow the lesson in english. But im lucky that i can easly understand it. i love you thanks
Any indian out there... lets group together on social media and learn korean together :)

I'm sick of paid classes and half info lessons in RUclips.....you are the best❤🌷
I will call you 선생님 from today.
빅키 선생님 You teach really well.
Every topic is so well taught and we'll presented. Thankyou for making Korean so easy for non-native speakers❤️🙏
I think you are the best teacher ever, I just love how youexplain things, break them down so easily.
Thank you for the video.🥰
Understanding is yet to be done 😂
most helpful channel ever, no commercial, very clear
I never thought I read "maknae" wrong. Thank you for this video it helped alot😄
This channel has helped me so much. I really wanted to learn korean but all the language learning apps we're really bad.. But now I'm finally really learning it! Thanks alot
Have written all your samples. That's how good you are. 🙂
Extremely happy and thankful i was able to find your channel, I have been trying to learn 한글 from other channels but they aren't as best as your teaching. I am a beginner you truly are the best teacher for me, just learned batchim and i will continue watching your videos. 감사합니다! 노무 노무 사랑해 언니
yep.. the pronunciation of the words/phrases make sense as you read it fast. Thank you very much Miss Vicky!
one of the best assimilation class in youtube
dispite the fact that I questioned the way to remember the consonats and am now like 4 videos in, im glad I remembered, and also amazed on how it actually worked.
this is the best korean class for any foreigner and i am really glad that i have one of the best teachers .even though i have never seen you but i am learning really well thank you miss Viki
I can literally keep watching these incredible teaching vids for hours and hours none stop, thank you a whole lot!
Found your channel last December. But i was caught up with my public service exam. I promise I'll be your regular student 😊
Thank you Miss 🥰
I'm confused ,if there's a lot of words wich it pronounce the same how do you distingh it?!
"The best helpful useful channel " i ever seen
Thank you so much for your effort >.
context!! how someone will use the other words in the sentence :)
just like 개 is dog and 게 is crab, they are pronounced the same but can be distinguished depending on context for example:
“What a fluffy 개 you have!” and “What a red 게” you’re not gonna say what a fluffy 게 right? so you can distinguish depending on context. hope this helps im really bad at explaining things!
Hello Miss Vicky, i have just started following your lesson. Thank you.
This really helped! Thank u so so much! oh and btw got urself a new subscriber!❤️❤️
Things you do after becoming an army💜💜
At 4:20 of this class in explanation I am getting confused at the sounds of "jiuet" and "chiuet" as they stand alone(not in batchim). The ch sound vs the j sound almost sounds the same. Is there a tip, as with digeut, as to what the tongue or mouth should do when making this sound? I'm getting the batchim part of things I just want to pronunciate as correctly as possible. Thank you and enjoying very much.
Hello vicky thank you for the lessons, they're very helpful. It'll be great if you tell the meaning of some of the words too.....Thank you 😘🤗
Thank you so much, i can now move to the next level without slacking off. Thank you 👌
I already did your leraning hangul and batchim part 1 videos. I understood most things well so I'll be continuing with part 2 another day, thank you for your great teaching skills and patience.
That's why other words like "같이" read as 가치 it's because its sound change rules if you don't understand watch KOREAN GO BILLY HANGUL
I'm just a beginner too but I like to share all I learn while I'm studying Korean
Very happy to see a new video 🌷🌷🌷🌷🌷
I'm so glad that I met your channel. Your method is one the best I've seen on RUclips. Thanks for helping me (and others) to improve my (our) speech. Greets from Brazil. =D
I’ve been self studying Korean language and this is the first time i heard about this. 😅 probably the reason why i really have the hard time reading Korean words and sentences. I really felt awkward reading most of their words and it makes me frustrated most of the time. Thanks to this. I am focusing now on 하국어를 읽어요.
Thank you so so much! I am very beginner, just started learning korean, and your videos are really helping me!! Well, my family and friends don't belive that I can learn korean at home, but I think with your videos I can!! Again, thank you so so much!
This has been a very very hard lesson for me, but once i overcame it, it became easy.
It's like English as well, so it's easy when you teach it. 감사합니다 💖
Thank you.. wish me luck for our recitation Tomorrow

thank you very much Vicky for your great job helping those who learn this beautiful language. God bless you!!
I like you explaining every words, I get to understand how to soubds it and to read too..
I can read each roman writing in korean. It's just I don't understand the meanings and how you read sounds and to connect to read next one.. I like the ways you writing it and explain it in slowly..
Thank you for your nice teaching korean in writing and how to read it and how to soubds it..
Thank you so much for your videos, i found them yesterday!! I've been trying to learn korean for idk maybe 4 years now? And i'm so inconsistent that it's going nowhere which is stupid on my part cause i could've been waaaay better than i am now.. my problem is that i need someone to idk teach me instead if my just reading a textbook? Idk if that makes sense.. you make us feel like your actually there with us teaching us in real life or something and that is what i needed!! I will be watching all your videos and i'm sure i will become better at korean. You explain everything so well, i love you omggggg ❤🙌🏾 i really appreciate your effort and so do your other viewers 😊
Amazing lesson, great examples and explanations. The way assimilation rules work is clear to me now:) Thank you so much, Miss Vicky, for the time and effort you put in every class!
I think your classes or lessons are really good you've been helping me A LOT in my Korean classes especial in batchim and grammar thank you🌹🙏🙏🙏❤❤❤❤❤❤
12:26 when she said “가치”
I suddenly thought of “KAACHI” The so called “K-Pop England Girl Group.”
They're not KPOP i think..
@@kemii_io706 they wouldnt get this much hate and clout if they were just a pop group but either way theyre still humans so i wont judge
@@lunettespasta792 yes..there's so many reasons why they're not a kpop group
They could have just said that they're a pop group
