I got both of them. I struggle to decide which one to wear everytime I look at them. They are just as nice for me. The SNR029 looks like a monster but wears very light. The SLA021J1 feels really nice on the wrist as it has heft to it.
That is true. The sla021 does feel solid due to the hefty weight. On a long day with a lot of movements though it can be tiring. The snr029 is just an impeccable watch. You have two great watches there!
Kirby this is a good versus video of Two Icons. Clearly the LX is a superior watch - Titanium, Springdrive Movt, Power Reserve complications but the MM300 is dear to our hearts. If I had to have just one on my collection it would be MM300 - It's visually appealing and wearable. The LX is huuuuuge
The titanium bracelet is phenomenal, sure titanium scratches, look at any high end titanium watch itll be the same. But man the bracelet is better than grand seikos. Respectfully...the spring drive is literally the best movement in the game.
Excellent comparison between the 2. Have the SLA021 for 2 years and recently made the mindless dive for a used SNR041. Find myself wearing the latter more these days. These are the times i look at my watch more than my phone. Have the SNR045 in my sights.
@@KirbyYoung What first caught my eye was the violet gold and only then i got to know it's limited to 200 pieces. Like you said the limited supply makes it even more desirable.
You’re welcome Blakestar. Those are two awesome watches you have there! I can see the trend that makes you want the LX. It is no doubt a must have on the collection. :)
@@KirbyYoung I own an sla021 like you and lusted for the Lx, but your video convinced me that I like the cheaper alternative more. I like hefty watches and I'm not a huge fan of titanium, since grade 2 Ti scratches quite easily. I think I prefer the smaller dial of the sla021, too
@@mgolabek89 That is true, other than the titanium material getting easily scratched, the dial diameter gives the lx a larger look. I guess I just had to get a spring drive and didn't want to go on GS territory.
Seiko LX titanium spring drive stealth wealth a very expensive watch only watch Nerds know about it. Quite safe walking down the street nobody's going to stab you for it. Plus great video
Great review of two outstanding watches. I was looking at the GS spring drive divers in ti. Couldn't find a store nearby to handle one. The lx has a similar to and feel ? To me, it looks big and chunky. I ran across a deal from a Florida dealer on a SLA039 and bought it. Gorgeous watch ! The Monoblock case in ever brilliant steel is stunning. It is easy to get lost in the blue dial. The 8l55 high beat is cool, but not all that accurate. Plus 7 seconds a day. I am wearing it on a bright orange rubber strap. Perfect on the watch for me. Also have a blue sail cloth strap for it. Looks good on that also. Think the sla039 will be my grail diver for now. I have spring drives in GS dress/sport watches. SD is so fun to watch that 2nd hand!
The LX is bigger and thicker than the GS sports diver such as the SBGA463. The Sla039 is not a bad watch to own. In fact I was also interested in the sbex007 at one point. Well it is still an automatic movement. Spring drives are just unbeatable. They are mesmerizing to look at. Thanks for watching friend!
I have the mm300 and a grand seiko spring drive. Considered getting the LX for the titanium but really worry about the scratching. Somehow, I want these higher end Seiko to be pristine but okay with a worn scratched Rolex submariner or omega speed master with patina.
Yeah the titanium has its benefits, but sometimes the weight feels too light it feels unnatural. But eventually, you’ll get the hang of it. And scratches are going to be more prominent, at least in my experience. Thanks for watching!
I was considering lx because of its higher end hand finish but it looks bigger compared to mm300 and I think the mm300 form is symmetrical and close to perfection.
@KirbyYoung all I'm saying is no girl ever says "wow that watch of yours has a nice lug-to-lug" or " wow that watchs lug-to-lug fits your wrist perfectly" lol! Know what I mean? Hah😮 but a badass watch fit for a king on the other hand. She's going to be feeling it for sure. Haha again though we do it because WE want to not because any other soul cares that we want to.
The SLA045 is a beautiful limited edition piece! I won't be worried if you'd pick up one. The question is, do you want a spring drive or a mechanical movement? And also SNR029 is bigger on the wrist.
Kirby, at times i literally forget i have a watch on with my seiko lx snr045. Its a 24/7 watch if you want it to be. Edit: and what a f***ing wrist prescence! I had a woman at the register tell me to hold on to look at my wrist today to ask me what i was wearing respectfully. 🙃
@KirbyYoung These are Seiko's Sea Dweller (or Planet Ocean). Mr. Ken Okuyama's creation, the Seiko Dweller, or Planet Seiko.. 🤷♂️😄. Modernized MM300 with a Spring Drive and a few other special differences, making it its own special watch. The bezel, the depth of the dial, the wonderfully low center of gravity, the case (titanium, making it even lighter than an MM300 yet more legible!!), the power reserve indicator boasting an incredible 3 day power reserve, the bracelet 🤤... These are absolutely incredible.
Kirby Young would you recommend the SNR029 vs a similar diver from Grand Seiko? For example the SBGA463? I’m on the verge of buying, but can’t decide. Thank you!
I actually had this problem before buying the LX. It was a GS sbga229 but basicallythe same with minor improvements and in stainless steel. (I made a video about it). I have held the sbga463 personally and compared it to the Snr029. They weigh about the same due to the titanium and the size is a tad bit smaller at 44.2 compared to the 44.8. And also much thinner. From there, maybe personal preference would really help, the Snr029 looks more like it has heritage as it is based from the mm300. While the GS is a modern diver that has a swiss look to it. What I learned from my visit to the GS Boutique was the LX is basically a Grand Seiko. No doubt. Same quality of finish and the only differences are on the design. I'm not helping, am I? But I'm just a die hard fan of the mm300 look. If you are not really in to it. Then the GS is the way to go. Here is the video btw: ruclips.net/video/j0JCqRjJKfI/видео.html
@@KirbyYoung Thank you so much for the awesome advise! No, you did help me out a lot. I’ll check you link and other videos. I am also a big fan of the MM300. That’s what actually drew me to Seiko from the beginning. I was ecstatic when they released the Snr029; because it just made the mm300 a million times better. It became more refined, lighter and with added the best movement in the world; Spring Drive. With that being said, I never held both the snr029 and it’s Grand Seiko counter part. That’s why it’s so hard for me to decide. I think I’m just worried to pony up for the snr029 and just for a little bit more I could get the GS. I do have a small wrist to, about your size. Good to know it goes pretty descent with smaller wrists. But I need to try it on to and see. My heart is telling me snr029. Lol!
It seems you have researched both watches extensively! That’s great to hear. Sounds like either way, both watches won’t disappoint you, only that, which one would make you happier. That’s the best option if you can try it on. Good luck man! Let me know how it goes!

Excellent Kirby. Thank you for that! First time seeing these two together.

SLA021 is a better, less toolish look compared to the SNR029. The bezel is more aggressive and the crown size is unnecessary on the 029.
That is true, the crown looks disproportionate. The sla021 looks more tamed. However it was not enough for me to be discouraged not to get the lx. 😅
