As a Texas tech fan how do you feel about a former walk on who used to play for your program going on to win a heisman for a conference opponent?

I mean, we had Patrick Mahomes at the time. He is absolutely better than Baker Mayfield.
Josh Coward don’t make that decision too soon. Mahomes didn’t have a rookie season to reflect on. He had a year to practice against NFL defenses and work on his game before taking a meaningful snap in the NFL. Baker had a pretty good rookie year and is primed to have the breakout year in his sophomore season that Mahomes did. With the weapons he has now to go along with how good their defense has become, I can’t see him failing. I will say that Mahomes has an unreal arm and has a hell of a mind for reading defenses. There’s a reason Kansas City won so many games with a JV Defense

If Oklahoma had any semblance of a defense Mayfield woulda won a national title
The story of Baker Mayfield is a legendary one. His Texas Tech career left a lot to be desired, however. Even though he had decent numbers (2,315 yards, 12 touchdowns to 9 interceptions in 8 games), he transferred to Oklahoma and redshirted the following year. In 13 games in 2015, he won 11 of his 13 starts, and threw 269/395 for 3,700 yards and 36 touchdowns to only 7 interceptions. He also added on 405 yards and 7 touchdowns rushing on 141 attempts. OU finished 5th in the final AP poll. In 2016, he got even better, winning 11 of his 13 starts, while throwing 254/358 for 3,965 yards and 40 touchdowns to 8 interceptions, while adding on 177 yards and 6 touchdowns rushing on 78 attempts. OU finished 5th in the final AP poll. In 2017, he was even better, winning 12 of his 14 starts, including a Big 12 Championship. He threw 285/404 for 4,627 yards with a career high 43 touchdowns to a career low 6 picks. He also added on 311 yards and 5 touchdowns rushing on 97 attempts. In 2017, Mayfield earned a slew of awards, including the Heisman trophy. Unfortunately enough for Mayfield and co., they lost the 2018 Rose Bowl, one of the greatest games ever, to #3 Georgia. OU finished 3rd in the final AP poll.

That game at Tennessee was a hell of a game. He played absolutely awful for three quarters. Lights out in the 4th and OT.
Tennessee was loud back in 2015. They had the team to back it up too. They just couldn't expect the loudness to effect the sooners forever.

You're right. Jason White, Eric Crouch, and Troy Smith all went undrafted despite winning the Heisman. NFL teams only care about your base skill and intangibles, not your accolades. I do think Mayfield will get drafted in the 2nd round though, I don't think he'll fall too far considering how well he led his team at Oklahoma.
