I live very close to Elizabeth and work there almost every day. It’s a low SES area, where like anywhere, you expect to see unemployment, theft etc. But I can also say that most people here are actually quite friendly, empathetic and easy to speak with. Most people are struggling here, but they help each other out and bond through the struggle.

It’s actually a misconception that Adelaide has the highest murder rate in Australia, Sydney has more murders per capita. I’m not entirely sure where this misconception started but it’s kinda funny to see.
Its not funny a lot of murders are low life men who kill their girlfriends and wives.
There was that one over in Hillcrest he killed bis wife and step daughter.
There was the unisa girl who was stabbed to death by her father.
There was the bogan in Elizabeth who murdered his girlfriend and her two kids.
There was the little girl found murdered and put in a suitcase on the highway.
That young mother found in the country town hanging from a tree that was too high for her to reach the murders are just on and on.
Adelaide is known for famous murder cases, not murders in general. That's why the rest of the country perceives it as that.
It started back when Snowtown happened. A bunch of British media called us the murder capital and it stuck.
Don't know were the stat comes from, Mexico for example has 77 murders per day. Adelaide murder capital of the world strong doubts.
I think they mean it has the most murders per population, coz Adelaide is such a small city with very little ppl compared to other cities it skews the numbers, Melbourne might have twice the murders but because it has three times the ppl Adelaide is “higher”….

Adelaide is a very safe and kind city. The people are much more considerate than in any other state capitals in Australia. The eastern suburbs are especially wonderful. The reason for that is because the bad people are all in one place, they’re all out at Elizabeth/Salisbury area together. That’s the commission, ex con relocation area. When you see statistics, they include that region with greater Adelaide, so that brings down Adelaide’s reputation, but that area is far out of Adelaide, north.

the streets are pretty safe here, ive walked at night in elizabeth many times. its what happens behind closed doors thsts the issue mainly, some mental health related violence, pretty large drug use tho, meth, ghb, bupe, pharma's etc
Having lived in Adelaide for a fair while and also having also visited Baltimore, Maryland in the US (ranked the US's 4th most dangerous city by statistical measures) , I can safely say Adelaide is very relaxed and safe. The worst events seem to be often connected to specific groups/gangs/drug groups or family / relationship violence.
The older historic serious crimes (ones you mention, Jamie) were mostly opportunistic or connected to a sort of hidden "under class" that doesn't seem to exist these days, as much as it once did in the 90s and earlier.
Snowtown especially seemed to wake South Australia & Adelaide up to the reality we had many forgotten people here and got a fair bit of community vibe and action to never have such a thing happen again.
For sake of comparison, Baltimore also felt safe, for the most part. Worst crime aspects there were also primarily connected to gang/drug/relationship personal disputes gone very wrong. I was asked to buy a pack of cigarettes for a man but by no means threatened by him or worse.

That's over a long period of time. There are only around 20 homicides per year in South Australia.
Australia overall has a drug problem. We rank 3rd in the world for stimulant consumption yet no one talks about it. Everyone knows corrupt police run the black market which Is why bikies and cartels are thriving here. Perth was the meth Capital of Australia but Adelaide took the crown last year.
I believe the whole world needs to legalise substances, tax them, regulate them and inject the money into rehab and education programs.

To most people who live in Adelaide we avoid Elizabeth like the plague, it has a bad reputation of being a rough area, a lot of single mothers with kids to various fathers, a high houso area as well otherwise Adelaide is reasonably safe in other areas
Stephen Orr contributed to this mythology when he wrote 'The Cruel City - Is Adelaide the Murder Capital of Australia?', published 2011. Adelaide may not be the murder capital of the world (rofl - yeah right) or even the country, but it is known for it's particularly macabre brand of violent crimes. I've never liked the city personally. It's not just Elizabeth - the whole place has a dark feel about it. It seems to be a retreat for scum from across Australia. Screwed someone over or ripped off your drug dealer in Melbourne or Sydney? Time for a one-way ticket to Scabelaide!

Adelaide has good reviews from every tourist I've seen vlog about it. They love the city the beaches countryside and the wildlife. Some even say we have better coffee and cafes here.

@@CeasefireNow2024 Thanks Kezza - I am speaking for myself. I also speak as someone who lived, studied, worked, and owned property in Adelaide for around a decade. I have good friends down yonder and visit from time to time. The city is very pretty on a surface level. It has great produce and a vibrant cafe and foodie culture if that's your thing. I'm not a huge drinker myself but South Australia has some fine wineries and breweries too. It's also Australia's illicit cannabis production capital and has a seriously seedy underbelly. You should read the book I mentioned in the post that apparently got under your skin a little. All the best mate.

Last year my neighbor got murdered by his ex girlfriends boyfriend in morphett vale. And the following week in pennington my neighbor got shot dead.

I grew up living in Adelaide in both the south and the north, there's definitely some bad parts in Elizabeth but it's not all bad as the news make it out to be. I'd say Kilburn which is in the West is probably the dodgiest place in Adelaide along with Hackham West down south

This was so painful to watch. Adelaide is the 2nd safest city after Canberra with the most crime being 'domestic' violence. Hobart is, per capita, the city of churches followed by Sydney and then Adelaide. The guy didn't go to the eastern or western suburbs and looks like he handpicked people who were either misinformed or not too bright. It's all feeding into the narrative of bullying a smaller city to make the eastern states people feel good about themselves.

To be honest, the next area over davouren park is probably worse, but is a quite suburb.
Salisbury north would probably be as bad, I had just transferred from Salisbury North, and a few days later on what would have been my shift, they were robbed at gun point. There was a chick who worked there and her bf was in jail for killing a guy by shoving a pool que down his throat. Apparently, there was also a gang called 7-11 who would drive around and randomly bash people with bats. Salisbury was where the killings were for the bodies in the barrels also.
Davouren park was a bit sketchy, you would walk around and cars would just be on fire as though it was a nomal thing, I can't think of another suburb that I know that is like that. It all stems from young fuckwits who like dark vibes and steal things and hurt people, because the other youth are scared, they join in, and before you know it, things go wrong. There was another killing recently where people just go too far bashing people. Bashing people is no joke, like I look like a fairly tough guy, but I have immune conditions where being bashed could kill me. Young people know nothing and never think before they act.
It also stems from things like the Opal mines where people would kill each other over opal claims and often nobody would even know.
