"Ave Maria" is Latin for hail Mary (reference to the Virgin Mary) so I agree with you.
Idol culture in a lot of Asian countries such as Japan and South Korea, the idols are supposed to be represented as "young", "fresh", "pure". Which is why they usually sign contracts which prohibits them from dating (well outwardly dating, and causing "scandals") to not "tarnish" the idol image mentality, majority of the fans have there.
I agree fully it's a reference to the Virgin Mary.

That's what I was thinking, theres reincarnation in this story, the twins called themselves divine beings as toddlers. This story is centered on IDOL worship. Mary is supposed to be a virgin just like Ai is (to the publics knowledge).
There a lot of references to stars and Mary is the queen of heaven.

      Exactly.
As seen in episode 1, in the conversation between Ruby and Aqua regarding their father, Ruby straight up said something along the line of "what are you talking about? There were never any man in the first place" (she was basically in denial mode and hell-blended on convincing herself that Ai obviously conceived them like how Virgin Mary conceived Jesus than to accept the fact that she have had engaged the act with a man lol)

the MARIA part is referencing the virgin mary - AI gave birth but idols in the public eyes must remain pure, wholesome, untouched by love and yes, a virgin. this is why the whole first part of the song is written like an interview and the last question is "are you seeing anyone? what's your type" and she replies "I'm clueless about love, I don't know even how it feels" all in order in keep her public image as pure as can be. this song capsulates AI's life so perfectly it's scary, dark and so good all at once.

      Yes.
      This, totally.
This cultural detail is so crucial to the manga/anime and thus to the song, yet so many people get lost in other, more esoteric references.
It is a shame idols are scrutinized so much by everyone, and a single misstep spirals into absolute destruction.
Chapters 6 and 7 deal with it. Yet, the story continues hammering that point.
Hopefully, it may help some people open their eyes and stop demanding so much out of idols.

I also watched the music video after watching the first episode of the anime, and I was deeply moved. It's unfortunate that many people, without experiencing the original work or the anime, solely watch the music video based on its high view count, and as a result, they are unable to understand the content and miss out on the emotional impact, ending up with little to no reaction to the video. Please also inform those people that they are missing out on a wonderful experience of being deeply moved.
The great thing about the English versions of all of YOASOBI's music videos is that they match the Japanese sounds, but also match the meaning. In most cases, it matches the sound of the end of the word. For some reason, in some places the English sounds like Japanese. After listening to the Japanese version several times, please listen to the English version. Please listen and compare and find out.

That bunny suit ai wearing has another meaning.
In Japanese, rabbit is read as"usa”,and lie is read as "uso".
So wearing bunny suit on stage means wearing lie suit on stage.
If you have noticed that Ai's marks on "B komachi" is a rabbit mark, that means lies.
And Ai appeared on stage third times without bunny suit in vedio means she dont need wearing lie on stage.

Like we get it these manga are in a league of their own and nothing compares to it. I read vinland saga and loved it but that doesn't mean I compare it to every other manga and use it as a standard.
Every time someone says "____ manga is good" people will start comparing it to berserk or vagabond just like you. They're not even the same genre. How do you even compare it?
People need to understand that there are other manga with great stories which are not vinland saga or vagabond. These are not the only manga in existence. A manga doesn't need to have a better story and art than vagabond , vinland saga , berserk to be good. It can be still be great even if it doesn't measure upto vagabond.

@@adityagandhi9882 i get u but tell me a way to actually analyze how good a manga is objectively. there isn't really any other way than to compare it with others. that's how u know the strengths and weaknesses of a story. and i m not comparing it with berserk, vagabond, monster, etc cuz they r on another league. all i m doing is comparing it to a show that's releasing along with it and make a rough nudges on what oshi no ko really offers. we all say it's a great story, and i do agree to some extent but when u compare it other mature seinen like vinland, u realise that oshi no ko fails on a lot of aspects. it's story, while realistic is overexaggerated a lot, it's characters are cli'ched and act like edgy nerds. it's story also isn't very consistent(as a manga reader, i can confirm that oshi no ko does do a decent job in many aspects, mostly romance and comedy but it fails on character development, consistency and just good plot progression). again, i m not saying that oshi no ko is bad or anything but most weebs just say that it's among the best after watching like 2 seinen and 100s of cringe shounen shows.

I must say that the deeper you dive into Japanese songs, especially Vocaloids, you'll find that most of the songs with upbeat/cheerful music actually have depressing/dark lyrics. Therefore it's always important to check out the lyrics whenever you listen to JP songs^^ YOASOBI's songs aren't considered as Vocaloid though since they're sung by real singer/human, not artificial singer/Vocaloid, but the aspect of "dark lyrics covered by bright/cheerful music and arts" is still used in this Idol song. I just find this amusing and very enjoyable ❤️

so Ai is saying, "Look at me I'm as innocent, holy and pure as Holy Mary/Maria"
It also shows that how idols fans expect their idol to always stay single and never lie to them and stay pure and innocent and be their gods even though idols are just teenage girls and Ai know this very well so she wear a facade of holy mary

    • @mitrikgaduk347
      @mitrikgaduk347 Год назад

Actually, given the context of where Ai says it in the song, this might be the most accurate theory. In the moment in the song, she isn't talking about her children directly, the only time she addresses them is in this part, but hasn't got anything to do with their birth or playing the part of a virgin while secretly leading this double life. She states "I sing and dance around, look at me, I'm Maria" which is identical in the original. Mary wasn't a liar last I checked (I'm an Atheist for reference, no dog in that race), so it's more likely referencing that, specifically the "blessed for her talent" aspect.

    Some things to think about:
    1. Al's full name is Ai Hoshino. Her name can either be interpreted as a field of stars (including the stars in her eyes) (Ai = Eye, Hoshino = 星野 = Star field). It can also be interpreted as "desire for love" (Ai = 愛 = Love, Hoshino = Hoshiino = 欲しいの = want). The second one is very accurate to her character considering the fact that she's spent all her life wanting to love and wanting to be loved.
    2. The rabbit costume represents lies. It's a mask for Ai to hide her true self, and it's also a play on words. Rabbits are called うさぎ (usagi) in Japanese. Lies are called 嘘 (Uso) and fraud is called 詐欺 (sagi). So, うさぎ = うそ + さぎ = 嘘 + 詐欺 = Lies and fraud.
    3. When Ai calls herself as "Maria", she is referring to Virgin Mary. (In Japanese, Mary = マリア = Maria). She does this mainly because 1. Ruby thought she had a virgin birth (lol) 2. she's supposed to be a "pure and untainted" idol.
    4. The edgy rant part is from the POV of another girl in B Komachi. The part (and whole song actually) is based off of a short novel the author wrote called "45510" which is in the POV of an anonymous member of the group.
The novel talks much more than her jealously of Ai; it talks about how that other member was also a huge fan of Ai and had her own image of Ai she created in her head.
She deletes both the video and blog that Ai made/wrote that showed her vulnerability because the Ai she knows is someone who is uninhibited, not dependent on anyone else, doesn't regret anything and is the strongest of all.
That's why in the end of the edgy rant part, it says "完璧な君じゃ許さない / 誰より強い君以外は認めない" (I won't allow anything else but the perfect you / I won't acknowledge anyone other than the strongest you). This is her way of saying that Ai can only be the strongest Ai she knows of, which gives more depth to the other B Komachi characters, rather than having them just be shallow, jealous people.

Fun Fact #2: Oshi No Ko and Love Is War is in the same world

  • @RealmRabbit
    @RealmRabbit 8 месяцев назад

Oshi No Ko hits all the vibes really well... Like when Oshi No Ko gets comedic, it's REALLY funny... When it wants to get sad, it gets REALLY sad... When it wants to get all badass cool and give vibes of like Light from Death Note, things get badass and cool... The designs for like the 3 big 'protagonistic' sort of characters are also on point, like I love what they did with the eyes, that's really clever and cool... It just hits the emotions perfectly every time I think... It also was interestingly not too predictable, like there are 2 predictions I made that had me thinking it was at first, but then after that the anime started subverting my expectations quite a lot later in the first episode... There's one storytelling device which I won't say which one to avoid spoiling too much, but basically this storytelling device usually ends a certain way to sort of blow up into this big moment... But then this anime instead never has that and instead the story takes on a different direction without fully resolving this storytelling device... And like, it kept doing this over and over again and I kept falling for it thinking "Okay, the story naturally is going to have to have this direction at some point." BUT NOPE!!! That possibility gets thrown out the window and it's like wow... They set themselves up for a big moment, then they have a different big moment... And because of that I feel like this story is very good at being unpredictable, but also while you have expectations for 'X' the anime will give you 'Y' instead and it's not even disappointing like with some stories, instead you're just like "Wow, y'know, not how I would've written it but 'Y' is pretty good too."
Musically I also feel like that's maybe captured in the song, since it just jumps across all sorts of genres and things and you really don't expect what is coming next in much of the song... But it's not disappointing, it's amazingly chaotic...

In the lyrics Maria is a reference to Saint Maria. She is the patron saint of chastity, r---victims, girls, youth, teenage girls, poverty, purity, and forgiveness.Whats interesting is that in the Japanese version, they make a reference to venus "Never to appear again, a reincarnation of Venus". Venus is the Goddess of love, and in Japanese the verb Ai, or Aishiteru, means love (A reference to Ai's name/character) Additionally, in the Japanese version, the final words are "Ah yatto ieta kore wa zettai uso janai aishiteru" which are Ai's last words at the end of Episode 1.

There is a short story which was released with ep 1 along side with the Opening, it is only a couple of pages long, which you should give a read and maybe listen to the song once more which I know you will be listening to regardless but also go through the lyrics again as there are a lot of Easter eggs in that short story too and fleshes out Ai a bit more and gives her more depth and complexity. Most of us would highly recommend you give it a read and would love to hear your thoughts on that too and maybe add it to your next ep reaction.

The juxtaposition of upbeat song and depressing lyrics is just perfectly encapsulate how japanese idol culture are. If you dont know the lyrics this look like an innocent song, full of happiness and joy, if you look deeper however this actually a plea for help from AI. Just like people looking at idol industry who are look innocent and embodied purity while if look deeper there are so much more dark reality underneath. I personally believe that both Love is War and Oshi no ko both got a very solid anime adaptation. I must say anime studios that have this good performance in adapting anime are quite rare in the industry, especially since these anime are pretty much the exceptions of anime being better than the source material.
Like, in the story of Oshi no ko, we see that manga author being very sad about how crappy her manga was adapted into a drama?
We all know Akaksaka wasn't complaining about his manga on this because his manga all got ridiculous high-quality adaptation.

In a Roman Catholic/Christian stand point whenever someone in the industry or like artists begin to use “Maria/Mary” in their work, it’s most likely to show the stark contrast between “innocence” and “corruption”.
Maria/Mary/Virgin Mary (and other variations of her name but most notably these 3), signifies “purity”, “innocence”, and “without sin” since she was born without “original sin” in order to become the mother of Christ/Jesus.
So for Ai to use “Maria” in that context, it’s a nod to how on the stage she’s this innocent and cute 16 year old who is seemingly friendly, having a great time, and overall just.. pure. But then you realize oh, she is more aware of the darkness of the idol industry, she deals with stalkers and fanatics, she deals with exhausting fan interactions and schedules, and that she-a sixteen year old-had premarital sex with someone and bore a child.
It’s fucked up but that’s the idol industry. We don’t know that some idols who are especially minors are forced to please older superiors and even are forced to have/or kill the possible children they may have during promotions and idol years.
It’s a genius play on Ai’s character which I LOVE! It just shows how dark the idol industry is without implying too much.

English people not knowing who "maria" is is hilarious to me XD
It's a reference to the Virgin Mary, Mary obviously wasn't a virgin if she gave birth, but for "the belief" it's important that her image is squeaky clean. Similarly Ai is an object of worship, literally an "idol", and for the lie of AI to exists her believers must also believe her to be a pure, perfect, untainted, virgin mary. Even Ruby believed that AI LITERALLY had a virgin birth.

5:20 The Maria line is a reference to her being a pregnant virgin.
On one hand, idols don't get pregnant because they are pure and virginal.
On the other, the big mystery is who is the father of Ruby and Aqua.
In fact, the end of the first chapter comes from the fan avcusing Ai of vheating all her fans by being pregnant and having children, thus not being a virgin as he idolized her.
