Personally, I think Black Ops 6 is one of the better ones in recent years. Didn't touch Vanguard and MW 2023 was horrendous, so Black Ops 6 feels good to play.
@ it may lack certain substance in comparison to the 1st 2, sure, but I’m not complaining whatsoever, Black Ops 3 had a weaker campaign and Black Ops 4 had none when it was supposed to have a actually good one before it was scrapped in favour of Blackout (and I still believe battle-royale ruined certain things as a side-note), so in a way, Cold War and 6 feels like it’s a return-to-form, even if it lacks the substance of the 1st 2.
@Gruntvc Firstly, BO2 is already the worst cod to exist, so BO6 wins there, Secondly, the whole brainwashing thing was already broken in Cold War. What remained was the Gameplay which BO6 beat so now it's the best cod ever
Or BO1. No zombies in campaign, actual classic linear level design, and cool characters/story. Didn't need to tie in to multiplayer/Warzone back then either.
I think a part of why modern cod and old cod feel so different is the fact that there are no stakes. Old cod games were not afraid to kill off characters and it felt realistic in that gritty warfare tone they were going for. Characters who you got attached to through listening to their chatter/ cutscenes (with honestly very little deathflags tbh) were instantly cut down in normal battle situations. It was brutal in a very real way. Now it feels like everyone can tank missile launchers and sniper shots with the armour plate system. Hell, even the enemies feel the same way with juggernaut style bots littered everywhere in campaign. While I dont necessarily agree with the critique about hyper realism in regards to gun standards or what isn't period accurate in campaign (the game isn't meant to be a total milsim), I do think you hit the nail on what makes playing modern cod not as enjoyable as the older classic games.
I'm huge Call of Duty fan, my favourite games in the franchise was Black Ops 1 (my first CoD) Black Ops 2, Cold War. Original Mordern Warfare was great but not my favourites. I think the brand problem is deeper than you voiced. I'm not a fan of the old parts of CoD, but probably my favorite from the Treyarch line, namely World at War. For some reason, it really stands out for me among the old parts. I also liked Brothers in Arms trilogy, was very good World War II games. In addition to modern MW and Warzone, there is another factor that Activision used to bring the game to where it is now. The failures of the old parts, starting with Ghosts, launched a series of events that turned Call of Duty into what it is now. Remember Advanced Warfare, Black Ops 3, Infinite Warfare, World War 2. What unites all these games? That's right, different settings like WW2, Futuristic future. First, CoD had World War II setting, many games about World War II on different platforms, the opposite of Medal of Honor. Then fans started to get tired of it and Activision decided to change the setting to modern war which changed the shooter genre again, then Black Ops with special operations in the past with special services, conspiracy theories and brainwashing. And of course Black Ops 2 which combined 2 settings, past and future. This became, as for me, a turning point when Call of Duty stopped giving the same range of emotions with different settings, great action packed story and music as before. All parts after BO2 didn't bring enough profit, especially this applies to all futuristic games (Ghosts, AW, BO3, IW). All of them did not satisfy the appetites of Bobby Kotick and they decided to return to the World War II (WW2) didn't work. Then the battle royale in BO4 which did not even have a story campaign and ceased to exist pretty quickly. Well, the 2019 reboot launched the Warzone era which we have to this day. I myself do not like Warzone, I played it literally several times a month and deleted it, I did not want to go back. And the games from Cold War to BO6 started to feel like starting points without a solid plot to see cutscenes finishing some storylines in Warzone, which in my opinion ruins all the magic of Call of Duty. And it's too bad that they decided to do this. Vanguard was just worst Call of Duty experience like with all campaing, multiplayer and zombies that was like the wors Call of Duty to me. I like BO6, at least the multiplayer and zombies were pretty funny and I enjoyed it, but I also can't forget the unfounded hate that poured in IW (Infinite Warfare) for being the future, the launch of the #RIPCOD hashtag on Infinite Warfare trailer against the background of the BF1 trailer with like million dislikes on it (what people were thinking back then) and that led us here at that moment. Call of Duty is a very fickle franchise and probably the only thing that can be said for sure is that its future is not yet determined. The latest parts are selling well and as long as this suits Microsoft and Phil Spencer, it will live. After all, sales are very high, I'm really looking forward to the next Black Ops game which will be the continuation of BO2 with Alex Mason's son, David Mason in future setting but I'm also offended that sometimes fans of Call of Duty themselves don't know what they want from the Call of Duty settings. This is the core problem that brought us to Warzone, I think. Btw thx for the video, bring me to really interesting thoughts. Can't wait for Stalker 2.
3:55 wanna know how to tell if a game is going to be grounded/tastefull? the sights, like even in that clip you can see the flimsiest, no top, paper thin glass knockoff barska reflex sight man, i hate it beyon reason
I used to really love shooters, but not because I wanted the highest kill counts (though, I will admit, that IS fun): I don't love them any more because there's no teamwork, there's no team cohesion. Toxicity in FPS gaming is a tale as old as time, but it feels like it keeps getting worse... or I've grown wiser to it. Then you have the endless war between the "movement kids" and the "why the f*** would I be running around like an idiot with a loaded gun?" crowd. You can decide which crowd I fall into.
@@Neros_light Those folks always out themselves imo. No normal human being can play the old games that fast, and if they did... then they were the top 0.1% or outright cheating; I can guarantee that they weren't the top 0.1% or as special as they think they were.
@JLM-y5g exactly. The funny thing is, I left the Halo scene because it was getting way too toxic and competitive and CoD was my backup for multiplayer, only for MW19 to launch and all the same reasons I stopped playing Halo multiplayer other than with my friends to pop up
BO6 is a great game, most of the missions feel as they are from a different game and i like that, the perk system just saves you from updates you aren't gonna get
Perhaps you're right because the campaign becomes more like multiplayer every year. Regardless, my intent with that statement is campaign should be the foundation for multiplayer's lore. But now, inversely and perversely, multiplayer and warzone is the foundation for the campaign's lore. I remember finishing MW19 and getting excited for MWII after THAT ending... turns out that all the good stuff happened in warzone and we got an Avengers flavored Temu Sicario for MWII... I passed.
Im not buying BO6 until it improves because ive been playing MWIII because it improved and the JAK advanced warfare conversion kits are fun to play around with
Cod has become a yearly dopamine drip for console kids. A vehicle for micro transactions that makes everyone feel like an aim god equally, so they keep coming back. It's mindless fun, devoid of meaningful thought or substance, which is why it's so popular.
I don't think, the expulsion of original creators lead to this. Since they later on made Titanfall instead of a realistic shooter. It's us gamers, collectively cheering on all this while refusing to criticize them
Each new Call of Duty feels not like a new game, but more like a new season for Warzone with a bit of story to make you wanna buy it.
Which is ironically the reason I don't buy them anymore
No it's not

It may be better than arguably the worst CoD campaigns from Vanguard and MW3 2023, but BO6 is nowhere near as good as BO1 & BO2.
