  • Vaginal estrogen 101.
Vaginal estrogen is not systemic (in the body) estrogen.
    It is much lower dose.
    And very very safe.
We discuss why and when to use it and the options on the market.
This is not personal medical advice.

Thank you! I’m in the Uk 🇬🇧 50 years old and couldn’t work out why everything down below had disappeared! I don’t recognise my own body. I have zero libido, Vaginal atrophy. My bladder leaks, I’ve had pain on urination for a month now. Urgency, pain so I’ve barely left the house. I feel I’ve lost my identity all because of my vulva changes. I can’t even feel my labia manora. Why does nobody tell us about this? It should be part of our education at school level. I’ve learned so much in 20 minutes. ♥️

So much valuable info. I had went through menopause without realizing it & was not sexually active for 5 years. By the time I was, I was 52 & had awful painful sex. My dr should’ve recommended vaginal estrogen. Sadly, he did not. So now I have such bad atrophy. Hope this this be reversed.

I found this podcast from a recommendation in a fb support group and it has saved my peace of mind, and possibly my marriage. I just started experiencing vaginal atrophy this year and thought my sex life was over. Menopause has left me feeling so broken, old and used up. Thank you so much for straightforward, clear and no nonsense information. I have just been given a rx for vaginal estrogen but when I read the medication insert I was scared out if my mind. I am so grateful to have found someone who understands where I am in life and can provide information to help me navigate this next stage. Thank you. Thank you.

My Obgyn prescribed me estradiol cream last year but I was afraid of cancer so I didn't use it but this year I decided I needed it because of vaginal atrophy. I picked up the cream last week but haven't used it. After listening to this information I feel confident to start using it today. Thank you so much ❤

This video is SUUUPER helpful! I'm a 37 y/o breast cancer survivor on Tamoxifen which has put me into early menopause many years before my time (yay.....). My fiance and I have not been able to be intimate for almost a year because it is SO painful. I only recently found out that topical estrogen could help reverse the damage caused by Tamoxifen and feel like my sex life could be saved!! My OB approved the estrogen and I picked up my first tube today... Can't wait to get started! And thank you for the tips on the application. Totally makes sense to apply it to the outer areas that need it most. I had been having unexplainable UTI-like symptoms but my urine cultures came back normal and nobody ever told me low estrogen could be the culprit!

Best ever information I have come across. Wish I had found you five yrs ago, you make such good sense, very informative, wish the doctors knew this, I'm in the uk. And I ask myself why womens health is still not a priority. In the 80s, and I am not joking after trying different birth control options that didn't work, my doctor joked that I should try celibacy! In my early 60s, I have had so many uti's and the only information for that was antibiotics. I thought that my sex life had come to an end. Recurrent utis just stops one from having sex as it makes one nervous that you will get a uti. Thank you for such information as it makes sense. Thank you for making womens lives better. I hope this information will spread and hope it won't take another ten yrs to get to the local doctor as they are decades from knowing this

I’m 56 and visited my doctor last month due to pain during sex. I wish I saw this video before my visit as I’m now on VagiFem, however I now know what to ask for, should this not work for me. I really wanted the ring, however insurance didn’t care as much about my vagina, so here we are. I was very happy to hear about all the added benefits for using local estrogen. AND LADIES - why do we not talk about these things more? My mother didn’t share anything with me about menopause or the aftermath. Sadly my insurance will no longer cover the ring and $550 is a lot every 3 months. I wish I had been more proactive. Only 57 and 4-5 years post menopause but have significant atrophy. Thank god for you Dr Kelly. I am perimenopausal aged 52 and I got my cream today. Was prescribed it as I am just a bit dry and maybe itchy. I had NO idea - and I reckon I am quite good on my perimenopausal journey/medication. I am so sad - to be ageing, the thought of some of my sexual organs literally going away due to lack of oestrogen is mind boggling, and these are the bits that protect my urethra. It is making my eyes sting. UTI's kill women. It is an absolute scandal that we don't know this stuff. Thank goodness for you. I will be buying & applying this cream for the next 30+ years - AND I am still going to be enjoying sex with my husband!

Do you use cream on inside and then also rub all over outside twice a week?

Is it ok to use Vagifem along with Divigel? I already use vagifem to target the vaginal issue but still need estradiol gel for other issues. Love your podcasts and your Instagram!! Thanks for providing such great information!!!!

Thank you so much for your medical advice on such an important topic. Is topical estrogen enough for the labia minora to grow back? If yes, in your experience how long does it take? Is a twice a week application enough?

I am 59. Had my last period in late 2019. Sex was fine... didn't hurt. Although I've never been able to have an organs outside of oral sex. Anyway sex was fine ( well not painful) until fall of 2020. Explained the pain and my doctor( actually another doc seeing me that day) she had never heard it explained that way and didn't know what was going on. Back then it just was painful just as hubby was entering me then it went away. Not it's just painful the whole time. Last June my own doc said I had VA. Put me on vagifem. Have not seen much difference although been avoiding sex. I'm also using replens. Hubby is getting tired of my saying no, butc that's a whole other story. Anyway so now I am back to vagifem 2x week and going for pelvic PT in a few weeks. According to my doc women see improvement after going for this therapy. Not sure what the heck they're going to do...I'm unconfirmed just talking about this subject. So Dr. Casperson do you think I would have better results with a different product instead of vagifem

Hello, and thank you for this VERY informative video. I’m 10 weeks on pellets and feeling so much better! I’m still having moderate itching and irritation (mostly clitoral area) should I ask my doc for this cream at my next pellet insertion? Will I benefit? It has gotten better with pellets but still somewhat bothersome. I’m using vagisil OTC.
    Thank you.

I've had issues (pain, irritation, yeast) for 3 plus years. I am always on HRT (creams and used to be patched but switched). I use 1 mg at night which is actually part of my HRT amount. The tissues are much better, puffier, etc. but still painful and irritated. :-(
