Same here, when I went in to get my bloods done recently with nurse I said it to her that I wasted 2yrs not been on HRT as my Dr did not help me or advise me when I went 2yrs ago.I said it was disgraceful that she didn't have a clue basically told me I was getting older so my bladder was weakened..I was 49yrs old and was clearly menupause heading period after 12mths..never asked me anything..I hadn't a clue about peri etc..2yes later I know exactly where I am no thanks to her..the nurse went on to say we have to be our own health advocate??????? That doctors know how important hormones are but you have to ask for them and do your own research ...I left the clinic even more annoyed...DISGRACEFUL this was only on Thursday 18th Feb 2021😡😡😡

@@cearilindubhlaoi9507 I’m so sorry. I really have no understanding why doctors are not taught about it to the level we also understand what it truly means and the effects it has on us. I was in my 30s and my doctor told me I was peri menopause. I laughed didn’t have a clue what it meant at all. But not did he. I was told it’s what everyone goes through. Everything was going down hill from then. Yet no one explained anything at all. I didn’t even associate the big health issues to it.
Thanks to you guys on this site. We have all had our eyes opened. I tell everyone about you. I so wish you were able to set up training for Doctors country wide. Imagine the amount it would save on the NHS if there was a menopause specialist in every practice. A great big Thank you.

I have suffered for years with no help from local doctors. When I asked to go back on HRT my doctor said it won’t make you look any younger I was shocked and upset by her attitude. I wanted HRT to protect my bones. I had fallen over and couldn’t get up. I was given patches that burned my skin it was the glue on the patches asked if I could use another one said no other one no help whatsoever 😱 since finding you my life has changed dramatically for the better 🙏😇🙏❤️

I started taking Probiotics and my recurring UTI stopped. I take one capsule of Florejen (digestion) (it must be refrigerated) plus one tablet of Nature's Bounty Acidohilus Probiotic every day. My UTI stopped completely. I went from one UTI every two months to zero UTI in over a year. I hope this helps somebody out there who is suffering from recurring UTIs. I was getting recurring UTIs since I entered my menopause years.

Dr Louise.. you are a secret lifesaver no doubt to many women. My wife is deaf and I only recently heard of the devastation that the Menopause causes so many women, which I was able to pass on to my wife. As you said hearing all the symtoms helped me to help my wife join up the dots on her many conditions.
This video on Vag dryness simply helps in ever more areas. My wife is now on HRT patch with a Progesterone 'yam' daily tablet. This has only come about as a result of Menopause being aired on Ireland's Live Line radio programme where you were mentioned, and Davina McCaul on Ch4 t.v. but at least we now know. Thank you for your dedication, brutal honesty and help to women and their partners.

I had hysterectomy in my forty’s. I said to my doctor I need to go back on HRT she said I’m to old !!! And it won’t make you look any younger😱 and could give you cancer. I have no cancer in my family. had to start crying she said she would come back to me. 3 weeks later I had to phone again. I m so glad finally that women's issues are being talked about, but it is still not main stream if you go to our local gp, and I am still frustrated, how I was not taken seriously.. I am 63, had a urinary tract infection that {I have had them before the past} that simply couldn't nip it in the bud and went through many months of different antibiotic treatment that made me sicker and sicker. Finally coming out of this, I realised that there is not enough information about female problems. Its time that we women are taken seriously in main stream medication. Its like it doesn't exist. Or in my case, you are old just deal with it.

Very sorry to hear that Janet. I just posted above that daily Vagifem sorts out all my bladder issues completely. Its just so simple! Unfortunately the standard prescription (twice a week) is just not enough to be effective for many women so they give up and either suffer in silence or opt for some kind of surgery which is probably unnecessary. I'm convince the more antibiotics they give to women, the more women suffer from UTI. My UTI was only cured when I started taking probiotics. Now I'm taking Florejen (digestion) every other day (basically 3 times per week) and on top of that, the cheapest probiotic I can find (3 times per week). Florejen used to be $23 and must be refrigerated. Now a bottle of 60 capsules is $32. That's why I take only one capsule every other day and it works for me. I have not had UTI's for the last 6-7 years. I'm so thankful. I also don't get as many colds or flus. I'm not sure what is in the probiotic, but it sure works for me.

The healthcare trend I’ve seen is elderly women admitted to nursing homes with dementia sped up from chronic silent UTIs (sepsis) that happen from bladder decline in the post menopause. This must be co$ting hundreds of millions of dollars for the healthcare system. Plus families don’t have their grandmothers with them anymore, mentally or physically. Tragic and heartbreaking. 💔Mr System needs to ‘do better’ with education, prevention and early intervention.

The last one even said it is all in my head, but prescribed vaginal estrogen pessaries with probiotics for 2 weeks, my vulva healed so fast. I still had urinary symptoms though, I need to try the long- term therapy. Also I started pelvic floor physio, I thought pelvic floor dysfunction and vaginal dryness are two separate conditions before, but now it just all make sense for me. Thank you so much Louise for giving your expertise on this subject. I experienced an ovarian mass and had my ovaries and fellopian tubes removed (already had total hysterectomy in 2009). Within days, I went into a full blown menopause. Hot sweats, insomnia, anxiety, poor short term memory and vaginal dryness (discomfort, irritation etc), just awful. My female GP prescribed 1mg HRT (Estradiol) and Vagifem but still experienced Vaginal discomfort. GP recommended Replens but after 5 doses over 15 days, I had a burning sensation that lasted 3 days. Through listening to yourself, Davina and Liz Earle, I discovered Sylk for everyday use which has really helped and I am sooo grateful. I do wonder if Vagifem still works after hysterectomy as I assume the top of the vagina is sewn up? I asked my pharmacist is my HRT was body identical and he said, he'd never heard of it!?

This may be something you don't know. I learned this on my own but it is verified by studies. OTC pain relievers like Aleve (naproxyn) and ibuprofen block estrogen receptors. So if you are already in stable menopause with a small amount of estrogen helping keeping you in balance - and then you take these simple pain relievers it will reduce even that small amount to nearly nothing. And you don't know it is happening. You may have more insomnia than usual. You may wake up feeling sad and depressed. But if you know your own estrogen levels well you can see that taking these drugs for a period of time brings back those symptoms - deep itch, vaginal burning/dryness, vaginal discharge. I am bringing this up because no one could have taught me this I had to learn it by myself. And the doctors have NO idea it is happening. Many women might not have realized that their vaginal and menopausal symptoms began after a short period of taking pain relievers.

I had almost all the symptoms listed and yet all my Dr did was give me urinary incontinence meds which has a risk of dementia!
After I pushed the issue of urinary issues, painful sex and so on and concern of the meds I’ve now just been given oestrogen cream but told it may help pain during intercourse but won’t assist my urinary issues. Seems most medical pro’s don’t know what they’re on about. Thank you for the good advice. I didn’t even know I had vaginal dryness until I had my smear and it was beyond painful. My GP hadn’t even checked me out almost a year earlier.

I’m a 15 year breast cancer survivor and was triple negative receptor. I was told I cannot take HRT for that reason. I’m only 53 now and physically fit and active. But my vaginal dryness is horrible and having bad UTI. I see my dr tomorrow to figure out what’s going on. I will see a Urologist in May. I’m hoping to find a safer alternative given my history with breast cancer. Oncologist are not fans of HRT for their oncology patients. Not sure why you mentioned it’s safe to take when in low doses. This is more confusing! I’ve done everything I could and nothing is improving. I do like vaginal moisturizer but it doesn’t make much difference with my overall health. Even with hypothyroidism makes it complicated. Very frustrating!

I am active eat healthy cutting out sugar and wine at night still weight does not shift ?

Please speak more about progesterone. I started HRT as I have osteoporosis and tried biophosphates with negative results. I was also suffering from depression, anxiety, bladder infections and severe insomnia. So I spoke with my gyno and she prescribed a patch with both estrogen and progesterone. Does this increase chances of breast cancer more. I still have my uterus.

I am in my fiftys, post menopausal, and had partial hysterectomy. When I speak about trying to have a sex life, it’s almost frowned upon. In Canada, we don’t have many gynecologists who are educated in hormones and menopause. It’s so difficult to get help, because every doctor is afraid of hormones, and they don’t want to re-educated themselves about hormones so they can actually help their patients.
