Biggest takeaway for me, there's a lot of options available when you don't rely on a traditional hero/villain dynamic.
West Wing is full of that.

There's also a lot of options even if you do.

"Did I adequately answer your condescending question?"
Fun Fact: In one scene, some Harvard students can be seen playing Fallout 3 (2008). This scene is supposedly set during 2003, but Fallout 3 (2008) wasn't released until late 2008.
Real OCD Fact: Jesse Eisenberg, who is diagnosed with obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD), said in an interview that one of the hardest things about the role was having to deliberately speak and behave in a manner he had struggled against in his own personality his entire life.
Historical Fact: It is mentioned that the invention of Facebook made Mark Zuckerberg "the biggest thing on a campus that included nineteen Nobel Laureates, fifteen Pulitzer Prize winners, two future Olympians, and a movie star" during one of the depositions. This movie star was, in fact, Natalie Portman, who was enrolled at Harvard from 1999 to 2003. Natalie Portman revealed during "Newsweek's 2011 Oscar Roundtable" that she gave a dinner party for writer Aaron Sorkin, while he was writing the script for this movie, to which she invited a bunch of her friends from Harvard. She wanted to give him the chance to listen to first-hand stories about the social life at Harvard University.

David Fincher also really hounded the script with Sorkin as well, in the behind the scenes you can see Fincher constantly asking why about everything while working in rehearsal, really focusing the script even more & getting rid of anything not needed, those two together is easily one of my favorite collaborations ever in film history.

Just discovering your channel looking for reactions to this movie bro, the analysis is crazy!! I was always big on story study in school and hearing your perspective on this was dope, much love 💪🏼

I don't think he lost Shawn, i think it was planned. When Shawn asked what was in the cardbox, Mark said "nothing". I think he sent the cops to the house so Shawn would be caught doing some unsavory stuff and he could get rid of him. Then we see the card that says " I'm CEO, B*tch" meaning he is the last one standing and he alone owns it all. Over the months/years (don't remember on how long is the span of the movie) i think Mark saw that while Shawn was useful, he wasn't really reliable and once they would hit really big (like the 1st million) he would become a liability.

I found that the easiest way to analyze this film is to think of it as analogous to Citizen Kane. In the end, both protagonists are hugely successful in their careers, but end up wishing for something they lost in their personal lives (In case it wasn't clear in The Social Network, the final scene shows Zuckerberg constantly hitting the refresh key hoping that the girl who inspired his success has accepted him as a friend). IOW, it's a tragedy.

Eh, citizen kane is a pretty blatant rise and fall sort of thing. The Social Network isn't the same, but it's definitely a similar kind of story

@@errwhattheflip Yeah, similar kind of story, just what I said. I used that analogy because he's seemed confused by the protagonist's arc as it doesn't contain the usual story beats for a happy ending. The simple reason for that is it is a tragedy, just like Citizen Kane. Once you realize that, the beats are there.

@@Finians_Mancave Absolutely. It's definitely a tragic story, just more modern than something like Citizen Kane

This was good. I’m sure studying film makes it hard not to educate on film while you’re watching it but in this case it kept you guessing a lot -like too focused on waiting for your antagonist or your mirror and missing the dynamic play out right there

I personally really enjoy andrew garfields acting, if you want to watch something him in where he does an great job, I recommend Tick Tick Boom, Hacksaw Ridge, the films are both about real people like social network but of course incredibly different, as well as a television show called Under The Banner of Heaven which is based on real events though he plays a fictional character.

The explaining of a character by another in this particular scene was due to his buddy being a character witness? Maybe I missed something there. If that were to be accurate that would be simply great implementation.

Where was this Mark Zuckerberg when he had to speak to congress, I would of loved to see this man tell congressman that they aren't worth his attention lol.
