What Happens If You One-Shot Doopliss In The Paper Mario Thousand-Year Door Remake?

- A while ago, I wanted to answer a question I had as a kid in TTYD if you could beat Doopliss before Vivian showed up in the fight,and was surprised that the game just let him die. So naturally, I wanted to see what would happen if you did that during the fight in the remake and.......the results were VERY surprising. Much like last time, I am posting this for the sake of documentation, I recorded it and am posting it here for others who were curious about the same thing

Thought I would make an FAQ comment since I have seen several of similar questions so I thought I would compile all my answers into one place for easy access
1. "What was your badge load out for this" A: The set up was 1 Power Plus. and 1 Mega Rush but I did use a Power Rush in the OG TTYD footage and obviously Power Bounce
2. "What happens if you do this in the Doopliss fight 1?" A: Same thing as the original, he acts like nothing happened and copies into Mario at 10 HP to not sequence break this scene
3. "Does he life mushroom again?" A: I do not know for certain but given the fact the Life Mushroom was added to stop a sequence break and other sequence skips (like getting the keys early in Chapter 8 were fixed) I'd imagine he keeps doing it until Vivian shows up
4. "Wait Doopliss copies your outfit now?" A: YES AND I LOVE THAT DETAIL SO MUCH. He also does it in the chapter 8 fight which is SOOOO COOL :D
5. "Can you guess his name early" A: No, much like the original, you can't say his name until AFTER you get Vivian
I think this hapoens since vivian is supposed to join your party and nintendo doesnt want you skipping that
Vivian still joins your party in the original even if you One-shot Doopliss

Imo, I like this change especially because they kept the continuity by having him use a Life Shroom
@@BaconNuke But if you win the fight too early, you skip the cutscene where she decides to join you. And then after the battle ends, she's just...there.

vivian in the original version is a dude who likes to dress like a girl. he didnt want to be a girl. he just liked girly things. that doesnt mean he's trans.

I like the detail in the remake that Mario’s voice is gone along with his name and face.
IKR! I loved every moment of that
It added SO MUCH to the feeling of being alone and isolated in this chapter! Such a small change was enough to make it my favourite chapter of the game this time around!
another interesting detail is in the original ttyd, when Doopliss transformed into Shadow Mario there was a Mario Surprised "Whoa!" Noise you could clearly hear, that's gone in the remake.
alongside the "Wawawawawa+Mario hp reaches 0 noise" that occurred when Doopliss knocked out Mario, that only occurs in the original as well, but in the remake its actually completely Silent when Mario's knocked out
Idk, I feel like it's more lore accurate but definitely less enjoyable, because mario has a harder time emoting and being understood by the player, which was a separation between how the characters and the player perceived mario, I always thought that was a cool feeling.
I was very thrown off when jumping didn’t make a sound, only landing does. I never even noticed there was a jump sound until then.
This is a lot more clever than giving him an arbitrary damage cap or something
Would have been better if we had to fight the partners first before getting to Dooplis

If you think about it, they DO sell Life Shrooms in the town-- Doopliss, as Mario, probably grabbed one from there
probably with the money he stole from mario along with doing the dreaded identity theft™

It wouldve been neat if you HAD to take out the partners before taking our doopliss as he would revive infinitely with life shrooms.
That would be cool, making for a more difficult fight if you powered your party members beforehand

@@danielcurren2119I’m fairly certain they DO have their abilities altered if you power them up. I took down Flurries with just my jump power (total of 12 damage) and she wasn’t powered up yet
In my opinion How about no What’s the level white line annoyed me even before buying the remake myself but I never played the original game mind you I vowed to use a bunch of powerful items the next time I fought him
I would rather just have it be optional to take them out BUT they should give experience points, so you have an actual reason for it

Yes, and there is even a different dialogue from an npc in town if you have the badge on.

@@darkshot4424 It'd be funny if there was alternate dialogue for Luigi's clothes, and Waluigi's outfit if you wear both. Seeing as how you shouldn't be able to get the L Emblem until late chapter 6.

Mario does speek full sentences we just don’t see them but the arrogant part don’t make sense
We can cut the li’l yoshi some slack. He was the newest party member. So maybe he thought that Gonzalez just was getting back into his ring-side persona again.

If you wear the Wario Emblem Badge and the Luigi Emblem Badge, you end up with a Waluigi color scheme.
Using a life shroom is a real nice touch.

New headcanon, when the real Mario talks, it's Charles Martinet like normal. After the switch (there's a joke there somewhere?) when Doopliss is talking through Mario, it's Kevin Afghani's voice, which is close enough for partners who've known him less than a week, but Peach or Bowser would probably be able to tell the difference.

You can also get this dialogue with a power jump badges around 12 damage per or use power up badge for damage increase
Fun fact: He does this if you beat him before he steals your body too.

Doopliss randomly sneaking in a Life Shroom and reviving himself straightaway is the equivalent to a champion spamming Full Restores.

Doopliss decides to throw game mechanics out the window; he doesn't visually have that life shroom, and he DOESN'T use it if you wait for Vivian to show up. Normally there's no way to not use a life shroom if you have one.
Now I'm wondering if something similar happens if you one shot the shadow queen before she transforms.

@@someperson7491 The heroes can use those because they spent the coins to buy it, here, Doopliss just pulls it out of his ass and destroys your satisfaction of one-blowing him. Also, Nintendo cheated us by making it to where we can only get 8 of those Whacka Bump things, meaning we not only lose an easy way to farm coins, we also make the mistake of not using them to get the rest of the recipes. But then again, none of my first playthroughs are perfect, so I’ll remember next time.

basically the exact same thing that happens in the original happens, Doopliss goes into the "transform into Shadow Mario" Phase and revives with 10 hp(no lifeshroom, it plays out exactly like the original does, where it shows him having 10 hp after transforming)

Apparently it’s the same thing. He uses a Life Shroom to revive like he does here, THEN steals your identity.

Wait, did they add a lore reason as to why doopliss and mario couldnt hurt eachother?
I thought Vivian joined you BEFORE this fight. You have to flee after failing to guess his name, then meet Vivian as a shadow, then go back to the steeple, then learn his name and get the “p,” then guess his name and then fight him here.
When you reach this fight, Vivian is in your party, but leaves as soon as Dooplis reveals that it's Mario she's working with. Then she comes back two turns later.

It seems that they've got notes from the Revival Stones of Fire Emblem: Engage, so they've implemented them on this battle, too.

I think it’s funny when people make these videos you can’t get doopliss’s name in one shot you have to get Vivian and you can’t do that without having an encounter with doopliss before you reach the village which requires you guess and without the p in your possession it’s not possible but wishful thinking though

Before he copies Mario?
In the OG when his HP goes to 0 he doesn't die and the copy scene still happens like normal, then he has 10 HP after that.
What happens in the remake?
and why doesn't he have one after she shows up?
What set up do you have for this?
For this set up specifically, I used Power Bounce, A Mega Rush, A Power Rush, and buffed up with Power Lift and an Unsimplifier (cuz I like the better star power reward)

What about if you kill Doopliss turn 1 while he is still a ghost, so before he copies Mario?
It is the same as it is in the original, it will just skip to the Shadow Mario phase and revive him with 10 HP and he transforms like normal (no special animation, plays out like normal besides his HP going from 0 to 10)

I literally tried to do this but for some reason the new framerate makes power bounce really difficult for me 😭
Power Bounce and Multibonk are really difficult for me as well with the new framerate. Super Guarding is difficult for me as well on some enemies with the new framerate, including the Shadow Queen

not really the frame rate they changed the timing windows, the fourth bounce has a single frame window which makes getting past that quite hard
