    On the 72 Blazer you sure were deceived. I'm a purist and a old new stock person. Most of my time is spend retrieving parts but than again that's just me. I have a 70 chevy 4X4 blazer I picked up in 1979 that is a rarity in itself. I call it my ranch wagon. No frills what so ever. Three speed on the tree, no back seat, carpet bare to the bone. Only frill I see is power steering. I'm 82 and been a novice since I was 10 starting with tractors and up to the twenty three waiting in line for restoral today. I have the tools and knowledge but not the life left so I jumped in on the easiest my blazer. I'm just replacing panels that need to be. The floor is complete except a few rust spots and a little surface rust base on sitting off and on for 45 years. Thank GOD for Southern California that goes easy on metals. I will leave it as it came out of the factory except I put a floor shift for the transmission. Leaving the linkage boxed in case I change my mind. Most of my cars are what we considered rat cars and trucks which to me means can't afford the paint and I'm a lousy painter. Point? To each his own. Live and learn.

    Awesome work! What transmission are you using and what adaptor did you use to mate it to the transfer case? Thank you!!

      Hey! Thanks for watching the video. I used a 4L80 transmission and got the adapter from Advanced Adapters. They always seem to be out of stock so I would call them at least 2-3 months beforehand if you're planning on going that route. Hit me up with any other questions you might have

    What doors did you use I have a 72 also that needs doors thinking of LMC out of Kansas

      @moderntooclassicautodesign8676  5 месяцев назад

      I have a supplier here in town that I use most of the time otherwise I'll use raybuck auto parts or classic industries. LMC is not a bad option either, just make sure when you order, that you call and verify it's in stock. I had a couple situations where it says in stock on their website then after I pay, I find out its backordered

    I have a 74 blazer..my full top has some crack here and there. Pretty normal I think on a blazer. Anyway my question is what the best material to fix the top. Is it redo it with fiberglass or is there something better.

    • @moderntooclassicautodesign8676
      @moderntooclassicautodesign8676  3 года назад

      Thanks for watching the videos. Fiberglass is probably the best way, by grinding the cracks into a V then using fiberglass matting and resin. There's another way that works pretty good too and much less mess/itchy. Use 3m panel bonding glue. It's a 2 part tube that can be used for bonding metal, fiberglass aluminum and it sands super easy. You'll need a special caulking gun but it'll be much less messy then use 3m rocker chip guard over the top before paint and it'll give that factory textured look. Let me know how it works out

    I live in Colorado and need to get the rust fixed along with a fresh new paint job, what would I be looking at for a price? I'm in no rush and can get it done like 6+ months or so from now, it's an 86 K5 blazer.

      It's hard to bid on painting old cars because you never know what you're going to uncover. Quality paint for a complete job including primer, base coat and clear coat can run around $1500-$3000 depending on how rough the body is. The labor part can be 100 hour to 300 hours once again depending on how bad the blazer is. I charge $55 a hour and send a update each day of the progress with pictures to support what I've done so there's no guessing. All the materials are logged into my computer in my ppg mixing system so you know to the ounce what was used and the cost. Hopefully that helps you out and getting a budget for your build. Thanks for watching, hit me up with any other questions

      That's the only way I'll do restoration. Time and materials. If I would have quoted this 70 Blazer I'm doing I'd already be in the hole. Totally clapped out. Paint hides a lot. Most restorations have been cosmetic make overs for years. They finally get to the point you can't do that anymore. Then it takes someone wanting to tackle the structure to bring them back to life. Can't estimate money or time on these. It won't end well. BTW, is that VP2050 on that truck? Great primer! Really has some sack!

    • @moderntooclassicautodesign8676
      @moderntooclassicautodesign8676  Год назад

      It just depends on a couple things. If you want to sandblast the whole body, fix the rust and do a full restoration it could be around $5000 for paint and materials $1200 for sandblast and around 300 hours at $70 a hour $21k labor. If we keep the body on and just fix the rust and repaint it, maybe around $3000 paint and materials and 150-200 hours $10,500- $14,000 labor just kinda ballpark estimate. I do update my clients every day I work on their vehicle to give a update of hours and pictures of the progress. I don't ask for any money upfront.

      Thanks man an I have a 1972 4x4 chevy truck that needs paint an everyone i talk to just wants like $10.000 dollars to paint my truck an im just blow away by that my truck just needs sand blasting or water stripping an sealed an paint the body is very complete an straight...oh the cad covers need to be done 10g is alot of money for some basic truck paint its like they see me an say 10grand to to fit it man ,..🇺🇸✌😎

    • @moderntooclassicautodesign8676
      @moderntooclassicautodesign8676  3 года назад +1

      Cool truck! Yeah it can get expensive real quick, especially with high end paint. I charge 60 a hour now and give a update at the end of each day so you can see where your money is going. Maybe 100 hours basic paint and goes up from there on sheetmetal work. I log every ounce of material, everything from primer, sealer, basecoat and clear coat. So there's no guessing on your bill. 10g isn't bad if they're sandblasting it, epoxy primering it and using quality paint, so off the top of my head, a full sandblast is about $1500 then all the epoxy primer, sealer, basecoat and clearcoat can be around $2000 to $3500 depending, so right there you're at 5g before the labor starts. Now you can cut cost and buy all the paint for $800...which is what a lot of shops do that just shoot you a total price but it won't last because in the Auto refinish world, you get what you pay for and expensive paint isn't just marked up, it has higher solids in it which give it more UV protection from fading and has better rock chip resistance. Hit me up with any other questions, happy to help out any way I can

    What company did you buy the doors from?

    • @moderntooclassicautodesign8676
      @moderntooclassicautodesign8676  3 года назад +1

      When I bought the blazer it came with the aftermarket doors so I'm not sure where they were purchased. I wouldn't reccomend buying aftermarket, because I had a lot of cutting and welding to get the doors to fit properly. I was lazy and put them on thinking about not doing rust repair on my original ones. Outside gap was ok but once I fit the door jams with the weatherstriping, the doors were about 3/4" to narrow to fit the pocket and rest up against the weatherstrip. Restore the orginal ones or even find orginal truck doors and cut off the upper glass channel to make it a blazer door would be my recommendation
