It's a good thing that you are using the west systems epoxy resin!.. what most people don't realize is that what oem manufacturers use for "fiberglass" parts is actually SMC (sheet moulded compound).. the problem is that normal polyester fiberglass resin doesn't bond to it....eventually it will come loose... your friend gave you good advice 👌.

Awesome video, thank you! I'm restoring a '74 and have been scratching my head about getting some texture back on top of the fiberglass repairs. Definitely going to use your idea!

Wow - I wish I would have kept my '71 K/5 Blazer top, I'm using a soft top but the hard top is better in temperature extremes, fast highway driving, and better at keeping water out.

Thanks for the video. How did you get the glass out of the top? Was it a pain?

I just cut the rubber gasket. I plan to have glass cut locally to replace them.

Looks great. So you didn't use any other paint besides the texted arosel cans? I will be referring to this for my top

What color “white” did you use when you painted it? Looking for something I can find or put in a rattle can….

I used a single stage paint from TCP Global from their hot rod flatz line. I would not recommend painting with a rattle can unless you go with the rustoleum turbo can. But, I think that is gloss. From my memories of the early 70's, these tops were not glossy, but sort of flat/semi-gloss.

Is this a new blazer build? I'm subscribed. I'll be starting a '73 blazer build soon (I've got 3 videos ready to go but can't post them yet due to legal reasons.).

It is a new build. I had worked on the top a couple of years ago and then moved to a new house, etc, etc. I am back working on it now, I just finished replacing both rocker panels and will be posting that video soon. I'm getting ready to separate the body from the frame. I plan to do a full restoration on it, maybe upgrade to an LS, not sure about that yet. Thank you for subscribing, send me a link when you start posting.

That original texture was probably Zolatone... they used it on boats as far back as the 50’s & the mini-truck crowd in the 90’s used that shit for everything... good product, I think we can still get it...
