Restoring a 1972 Blazer K5 Introduction
@fultonsgarage6331 what kind of paint did you use?
This guy is hilarious borrowed these clamps in 84. Let me know if you need them I’ll get them back to you.
“There is a major problem” is a common saying in these old cars. I went from replacing the rockers to the whole floor!
Truck turned out great. Please paint my short bed. Im serious. I'll wait three months
3 Months!?!
People usually forget that there is that third bearing , it must be greased too. It is inside the spindle supporting the outer part of the driveshaft. It is a needle bearing, and hard to lube without special adapter that screws to the spindle nut threads, so the spindle must be removed to lube that third bearing. If mudding or deep fording, that poor bearing has hard life anyway, so remember to service it also. And, the reason for hanging it with a wire is that just the weight of the caliper will not hurt a good hose, but a wedged caliper falling will...
I wondered how that bearing would be greased, I should have known that there is a special tool for it. Thanks for the advice and info!
Nice channel. Gain 1
Just a FYI for anyone watching. Torque bearings to 50lb/ft to set them up, back it down, retorque to 35 lb/ft while turning the rotor, and then backing the turn off 1/4 turn before installing the lock washer and torquing the outer nut to 50 lb/ft. Awesome video!
100 lbs damn
Hello my friend When converting to R134a you first remove the old ferion then you must do an appropriate flashing all the system each separately no need to replace the compressor just flash it using gas R11only.. Only items to be replaced is the condenser and the accumulator and hoses + expansion orffice tube & all other O'Rings which fits for 134a , these items only must be replaced adding one ounce PAG oil in each new part you installed.. no need to change compressor unless there is problem.. Just flash it n add 3 ounces of pag oil After fittings evacuate the system properly for about one hour or more using proper vacuum pump/fittings tools and watch the gauges if vacuum remains good Charge the system.. good luck In case you have problem please check ur connacted hoses then evacuate the system again n recharge.. you have done
Haven't seen the Blazer project in awhile! Coming along nicely Mr Fulton :)
@mdnaftal thanks Mark. I'm retiring this year and moving back to Florida. Need to get it finished first!
Please keep posting bug content! I could use it for my 71’ bug! Ppreciate you posting this Fulton trying to completely restore my bug as of current.
Great video. It's been a while. I'm also restoring a '72 K5 Blazer and your knowledge is a lot of help to me. Thanks kindly my K5 friend
Thanks for watching!
What’s the paint code on the blue?
It is summit racing ultra blue pearl paint.
I appreciate these videos, I have a 72 Chevy blazer that I will be doing a frame off restoration. Mine has the factory air but no power steering, i will be adding the power steering.
It was a little bit of a puzzle for me to get the right pulleys. Let me know if you need any pictures.
I've never seen anyone take apart a tail gate before. Now I wish I would have done that to mine a few years ago.
Great video!
I don’t recommend this guy at all. Beware!
I don't recommend me either.
Lol! Fk the fuel filter! :) Can just nab any cheapie universal motorcycle filter from Autozone/O'Reilly ;) If that doesn't work, the line from the tank to rear is prolly gummed up & hopefully just the flex tube over the rear axle. :)
For you not being a body guy, your work is amazing
Thank you!
Spun the bearing on my 75 k10, can't locate original hub, forcing me to convert to 2 piece, have you experienced this?
@jeffreymarshall6761 I have not. In my area, there are a half dozen complete axles for sale on facebook marketplace for around 100-150 bucks. An expensive way to get a replacement hub, but you could sell off the rest of the axle parts.
@fultonsgarage6331 thanks I'll keep checking, thanks for the reply
Beautiful work!
Thank you so much 😀
Dude
Lets turn it into a Manx!
Great videos! What floor epoxy is that?
@@wyattbarry4786 I used a system from armorpoxy.com. their airplane hangar 3 kit on a pallet. Very durable.
@@fultonsgarage6331 thank you
How cold were you able to get it out of your vents at idle?
@gimmefuel7268 I just checked it. It's 95 degrees outside and it blows 56 with the AC on Maximum.
@@fultonsgarage6331 thanks for the reply!! I had the compressor, dryer, & lines replaced in my ‘84 last week. He also installed a new fan clutch in hopes of pulling as much air as possible through the condenser. When it’s about “90ish” outside, & sitting idling, mine was about 60 degrees. I was hoping for around 40’s but I guess that isn’t going to happen. 🤷♂️
I was just looking at this kit. Looked pretty cheap. How’d it hold up? I’d love to get this for my 77 bonanza
It's still going strong. The biggest improvement was sealing all of the vents behind the dash when I restored the interior. Now I can't leave the AC on full blast for more than 5-10 minutes without freezing. Even in 110 Arizona heat. We'll worth the time and money.
@@fultonsgarage6331 that’s awesome!!! Definitely gonna have to get it now!
@@fultonsgarage6331 where’d you purchase the kit from?
What did you use to seal the vents?@@fultonsgarage6331
After watching this video, I think I'll take my car to an A/C mechanic ;) I know it will cost me a couple grand or so, but I think it's too hard to DYI it w/o all the proper tools (and expertise).
Do you have info on where you got the upgrade parts? Was it all in a kit?
I bought most of them through Summit racing and some through LMC truck. I thought I posted the part numbers, I can't find them now.
Do you have info on where you got the upgrade parts? Was it all in a kit?
I thought I kept track of everything but didn't. I bought the compressor from summit racing and everything else from LMC TRUCK.
R22 ?????
You're the first one to catch that. Meant to say R12.
What size tires are they? I’m looking for ones just like them. Cool truck! Gotta love the square bodies.
They are 32x11.50 R15LT. They used to rub on the front bottom fenders until I changed the front leafs which raised it up about an inch. Hasn't rubbed since.
@@fultonsgarage6331 Thanks! They would look perfect on my 85. My truck sits pretty high so I think I should be okay. I learn a lot watching your channel. Keep up the good work.
No disrespect brother great video had to stop watching got seasick and you talk way to much again no disrespect
Thank you for the feedback, I have slowed down the camera movement on later videos. I had a lot of comments on that. My cousin also told me to not talk so much. I have another video coming soon, I am going to cut out a lot of the commentary and see how it goes. Thanks again, no disrespect received.

Thanks for the video. How did you get the glass out of the top? Was it a pain?
I just cut the rubber gasket. I plan to have glass cut locally to replace them.
Thanks. Keep the videos coming!
Do you have part numbers for everything you replaced?
10:44 yeah….that’s what she said! 😂
Love it
As soon as I read your comment he said on the vid😂
Dawg u pressure washed the autozone stuff wayy more
Haha, I saw it needed some help.
Dawg u pressure washed the autozone stuff wayy more
Put a decent amout of grease on your palm and keep working grease into bearings using your palm until grease comes out in all directions
The washer is a lock washer. It has holes that hold the pins on primary nut
I just got a k20 77’. No idea on how to do anything bodywork wise but willing to learn. God bless.
The FUME free oven cleaner is garbage .The normal is much better
Great job Mr Fulton!!!
Great video! I loved all the detail and how you showed everything. I have to do this on my '85 K10 and am a bit nervous about it, but this video helps a lot.
We have a dog named chevy!
5/8 drill bit works quicker
5/8 would make a pretty big hole to plug up later.
Thank you 😎 your video helped my son and I put on new rotors and pads on our 83 K5 blazer, and clean and regrease the hub innards. The rotors we bought had the lugs and hub cradle already; no press needed; albeit much more expensive. Had we watched before buying everything, could have used the saved $ to buy a 12-ton press! We were going crazy trying to remove the oil seals to get inner bearings out of old rotors, your video led us to "Performance Tool Seal Puller - W1219" at Oreilly's. Having the right tool made it easy.
Thanks, glad the video was useful!
You can use a punch to knock seal out. Just as easy
A 1970 engine cover/ deck lid only has 2 air vents. Yours is off of a 1971+ having 4.. Just FYI.
Thanks, It is also stamped MEXICO underneath. I suspected it was not original. Maybe that's why we cannot keep the lid open.
Great video! We put in a new floor pan before dealing with the rockers, do you know how far the floor should be off the transfer case? We have a 70 Jimmy
It's about 3/4 inch from the transfer case to the floor brace.
YOU NEED TO CAKE THE OVEN CLEANER ON AND LET IT SIT FOR A HOUR
Great job, watched a few videos, yours seems like the best and actually shows you doing the steps!
