      Alan Menken is a genius

    • @FeatheredWingz
      @FeatheredWingz 4 года назад +2

      The creative team certainly was! We got a lot of industry greats leaving their mark in this era! Alan Menken, Howard Ashman, and Hans Zimmer all found their talent and love for scoring/writing songs for animation. Glen Keane rose as an animator of legend. Ron Clements & John Musker and Gary Trousdale & Kirk Wise as solid directing duos...
      But the bureaucrats were a mess! Watching the "Waking Sleeping Beauty" documentary is wild. Makes you wonder how these master pieces ever got made with the bosses' egos being such problem! Jeffrey Katzenberg & Micheal Eisner were the duo brought in to revitalize the company in the 80's. They obviously succeeded as The Little Mermaid literally saved the company (before the internet being available in the hype, I might add!) But by the time of The Lion King's release, Katzenberg, Eisner, and Roy E. Disney were absolutely at each other's throats! They seemed to constantly be harping on about never getting credit for stuff from each other or stealing credit or whatever...
      Katzenberg literally resigned right after the premiere to go co-found Dreamworks.
      Fun fact: Everyone knows Shrek exists as a parody of Disney-specific animated fairytail cliches. But for Katzenberg, it was very personal and a gleefully petty jab at Eisner and Roy E. Disney. It's widely believed that Lord Farquaad as a character is meant to be Katzenberg's view of Eisner at this time. (Say Farquaad a few times really quickly, it's funny!)

      Probably one of the highlights of the remake was that Jon Favreau knew not to mess with that scene. Normally I do not like shot for shot remakes, but that he did his best to make that scene the exact same speaks to how great it was in the original. I had tears in my eyes when I saw the remake in theaters during that scene.

      Same here, since almost all of our favourite Disney Animation films like B&tB, Hercules (Schaffrillas Productions’ take on the film far outshines Lindsay Ellis’s where she even went as far as to bash Treasure Planet in favor of Twilight and Bayformers), TLK, The Hunchback of Notre Dame (except for the Gargoyles, especially Hugo because at least with Victor and Laverne, they had their heart in The right place to protect Quasimodo while Hugo could sometimes be argumentative albeit adorably designed, he was the only character in the film that wasn’t as maturely groundbreaking as the rest), Mulan, Tarzan and The Rescuers Down Under (I don’t care what anyone says, I’d take them over The Little Mermaid and Pocahontas any day! If you like these films a lot, more power to you. But there are some things about it that didn’t age as well about them for me. But I can certainly see why people like these films because to keep them away from being bad movies as a whole, they have artistic animation and a very strong soundtrack) defined that era like gold!!!!

      @@kieranstark7213 The gargoyles in Hunchback really dragged the movie down. They were so out of place in a movie that's supposed to be dark and gritty. I also would've preferred if the gargoyles turned out not to be real but Quasi's imaginary friends.

      Disney had many eras, according to the time they represent. Out of all of them, the Golden Age (with the most classical movies), the Renaissance (with movies with the most compelling stories and amazing animation) and the Revival (the current one that returned to the Renaissance and took it to another level) are without a doubt the most acclaimed ones. But you're right: Disney really did great works in all of its eras, as each one as successful movies. Even the Dark Age has amazing works. We can't forget that the Winnie the Pooh's franchise aired during this time.

    The Circle of Life should have been number one. Everything about it is epic. From the first note, your attention is held in a powerful embrace. The harmonies on display are perfect and uplifting. The mixing of languages to set the story in motion is absolutely enthralling. Then factor in the visuals. Wide sweeping shots of the animals gathering on the ground and in the air. The presentation of Simba and all the animals bowing as the chorus rises, engulfing you in peace and power all at the same time and then it all ends with a thunderous drum.... if you've seen the Broadway play, you know what I'm talking about.

    Her: "Can I just say that all of these are number one in my heart?"
    Me: Why would Hellfire be considered for the number one spot?
    Also, why weren't Go the Distance, God Help the Outcasts, and The Bells of Notre Dame on here? They should have at the very least gotten honorable mentions.
