Jimi is said to have played “upside down and backwards” because he turned the guitar backwards and strung it upside down, so it played like a normal left handed guitar. So in reality it wasn’t as big of a deal as it sounds. He basically just played left handed made out of a right handed one. But this guy, WOW! He’s truly playing upside down and backwards!! He doesn’t have it restrung. It’s truly upside down! It’s still in the right handed configuration. So he truly is playing upside down and backwards! My fingers can’t even comprehend it. 😂😂
Gales is a top tier player. Great performance here. I really love when a great player does a cover like this-it's an interpretation, not a straight up cover. Some of the negative comments leave me shaking my head. The jazz and classical tangents he goes off on are really cool and that's what I love about this and when he does guitar show booth demos that you don't hear on his albums.

i have loved him sinced the 80s
I've now watched many many videos of Eric playing live and what I find incredible is that he always appears to be improvising a lot of the time but he not only never has a note out of place but his timing is perfect - that's the really astonishing thing. Many other guitarists can improvise but only Gales gets the timing so perfect. It's just so satisfying! You rock Eric, please come to the UK soon?!!!

I mean this guy is good, but he seems like he's on another level for this performance. I don't know if it's the sound & great production but this is definitely one of the best quality recordings I've seen of him and Geez, this audience was lucky man. He kills it! Awesome stuff.

Eric is all about improvisation & genre blending. Incredibly however, he's doing it all upside-down & backwards (When you're a kid growing up without a lot of scratch, again you must IMPROVISE!)
It fascinates me to watch self taught guys like Eric and (one of the "Three Kings"), Albert King, play this way so effectively!
This isn't (by far) Eric's best video for guitar mastery, though.
You guys check out his others, as well! He's a fretboard wizard when in the zone!
