  • Today we got to meet the baby rhinoceros (calf) at Colchester zoo, in Essex. It was so amazing to be able to see it, as we visited the zoo without expecting it to be out exploring it yet, as she is only 10 days old. Her mother Emily, a white rhino had been pregnant for 16 months. This is the gestation period for a white rhinoceros.
You can see the rhino calf’s excitement to be out in the paddock. She was only let out for around half an hour, perhaps whilst the keepers cleaned up their enclosure. It was fairly cold this morning too, so perhaps it’s a bit cold for her to be out in this climate at such a young age.
