    Dude thanks for coming out with this tutorial! I was being stupid for about a month trying to learn this song with the tab. I didn’t realize I was adding an extra note and was not able to play along with Steve’s (Guitar2) part because this song’s timing is so important. Then I broke it down and followed your tutorial for it and realized what I did and played along with recording perfectly! Thanks again bro! Dropping a like!

      Thanks so much Avanti! Yeah I had to come back to this 3 or 4 times before I made the video because it was doing my head in trying to figure out to how to play it and then show it. Definitely a tricky one with the timings and lengths of phrases. Glad it helped you out :)

      13StJimmy my pleasure! Yeah it took me a while to get my head around it, especially that first part, with the timing and how long to play each chord etc. Happy to help out :)

      Jonas S that’s great to hear. Yeah I’m going fine, just been playing guitar to pass the time indoors so could be a lot worse. Hope you go well with the tune! Should have some more up over the next few days :)

      Sounds straight DI Clean to me. When you play American Football tunes you don't want anything past reverb or Chorus

    I was wondering if you could do a tutorial for their song 'heir apparent' by any chance?
    Appreciate you doing what you do

    This is really great! The only problem is that it’s hard to get the groove down. Do you know what time signature it’s in?

    • @davedoingguitar
      @davedoingguitar  4 года назад +2

      Thanks so much Whibbleman :) Just listened to the track and I think it’s in 7/8. So if you count “1 and 2 and” etc on every picked note up to 7 that seems to fit fairly nicely I think. It’s an absolute headspin with accented notes and the second guitar part added for sure haha

    Has anyone figured out a way to play both parts in the same tuning? Would love to play it alone but then i have to choose one of the two guitars to play 🥲

      I just learned every AF song in standard (I substituted some notes but they all sound great over the track) I would encourage yourself to do this.
      Its very difficult but will pay off

    Hmm.. Ive always thought Steve’s/Guitar 2 riff is just pt 1, pt 2, pt 1 on repeat. In other words, no pt 3.

    • @davedoingguitar
      @davedoingguitar  4 года назад

      Hey madrubicon!
      I just had a quick re-listen through the sections and I think there are 3 separate parts as explained in the video because you can hear a change in the bass note/s. For guitar 2, part 2 and 3 are pretty similar in their picking pattern and share a lot of the same notes - also my explanation is possibly not fully accurate as I based it on the attached tab and adjusted by ear for things that didn't seem quite right to me.
      Also in this live clip the band made recently you can see Steve play three different parts - ruclips.net/video/GFztiN_y2LM/видео.html
      The parts are very similar though and it's a tune that sort of spirals in on itself to a degree so I totally understand where you're coming from :)

    • @madrubicon
      @madrubicon 4 года назад +1

      davedoingguitar sorry, to clarify, part 3 does exist, but my point is that I don’t believe that part is included in the repeating intro riff. If you watch that same live video at 0:29, Steve’s hand moves back up the neck after playing pt1 and pt2, which IMO shows he’s playing pt1 again.
      That repeating part 1,2,1-1,2,1 pattern blew my mind when I first tried playing along with the song... something about the syncopation and being in 7/4(?) time makes the pt1 played in succession sound so different.
      In any case, kudos for putting together this tutorial. It’s always fun bantering with fellow guitar/American Football nerds :).

    • @davedoingguitar
      @davedoingguitar  4 года назад +1

      @@madrubicon oh right right, yeah i think you may be right there listening to that intro section. Good pickup, I seem to be a bit off.
      Yeah the rhythms and overlapping parts in not only this track but so much of the first LP are really mesmerising. I think this is a real highlight of the album though for me in that regard.
      Thanks so much though man. And yeah it's always nice to find another guitar/AF nerd like me haha :)
