Its purpose is for qualification to the Olympics, the tournament with the best teams AND the best players. Now look what happened when the real show started. USA swept the rest of the world per usual. They’ve been playing catchup for 20 years and still aren’t close. We are the gold standard in the sport and that will never change.

Hard to bet against USA but if another team could win it, it could probably be either Serbia, France, Germany or Spain.
Australia could also be in the mix.
They still have the talent to win gold. But the question is if that talent would be enough?
