One FIBA rule that NBA adapted most recently is that after and offensive rebound, clock doesn't reset to 24 seconds but 14 seconds instead.
it's not a recent one, it's been like thst for maybe 5 years, the most recent ones are "gather step" and changes to a technical foul where it used to be 2 FTs and now it's just 1... but FIBA has that teams keep possesion of the ball
@@denistvarog4053 that change was made in the NBA in 2018, so it's 3 years, not 5. They changed the rule in the G league first.
I did not like this change
@@mishagelenava2962 BS, I haven't played in some time but over 5 years ago we have already played with the 14s rule
@@mishagelenava2962 ...
Also flopping in Fiba gets you a technical foul, which should be part of the NBA imo
Yeah but they one of the things NBA does better is having the coach challenges. We (Slovenia) were robbed so many times on this tournament because refs simply do not want to look at the replays for us but only for bigger teams. And when our players try to tell the ref to look at the replay, they get a tehnical. It truly is screwed up. 🤦
apparently the NBA won’t call flopping next season. We’ll see how that goes
Needs to be called all the time. The NBA is turning into Italian soccer for its flopping
@@zhilla7 lol Slovenia robbed. I saw you got blocked against france. And lost by big margin to Australia

Defense*
@UCrNj49FbOnfzD0fMBACElcQ shut up
@@cesarlopez488 defence is still correct. It is the British spelling.
FIBA rules are not focused on the show, but on the game. Defense is part of the game, it is actually 50% of the game and should be granted.
I'm from the United States and as much as I watch the NBA, FIBA rules are a lot better because those rules allow and respect the fundamentals in the game. As with the NBA they water down some of fundamentals of game. For instance, Defensive 3 second violation is just a way to discourage guys from playing solid defensive basketball for the sake of high-scoring entertainment.
TBF NBA wasn't calling any lane violations in the finals.
in my opinion 3 second helps keep the paint unclogged and cramped with players
trust me, playing a whole game against a 2-3 zone is fucking boring, all you do is drive-kick out-shoot a 3... that's it, unless you have a fast break you are forced to shoot from outside and it is annoying as hell
@@denistvarog4053 in fiba rules there's atleast actual defence and it's harder to score
yeah, i don't know why but I have become to better appreciate defensive actions, slam dunks are so boring now that every body can do it.
No defensive 3 sec violation in Fiba is such a great impact to game. Even team USA with the most talented players on the planet struggles more in fiba official games, just like dame when played for team USA he said it really is harder to score in International games.
it is, it makes the games more balance between offense and defense and it is so fun to watch games and team with very strong defense
Team USA doesn't seem to "struggle" vs international teams, they've won 4 straight golds at the Olympics and just recently went 11-0 again......
Steps in the NBA are a comedy. They could be more strict here!
Its not steps (koraci) its traveling (vidi kako putujejo :)

@@CobiVonSchweetz Nah dude you are batshit crazy.
What amazes me the most is that, even though the NBA rules for traveling are less strict, they exist. Yet the referees seem to have forgotten them.
The dunks look good on the higlight reel afterwards and nobody wants to be the “buzzkill” for calling traveling on Ja Morant or Lebron James.
Stupid, yes. Unfair, that too. But understandable.
It seems in the NBA if it looks like a move that's good for publicity they wont foul it lol
FIBA rules are decent, with the one exception that jump balls should be JUMP BALLS. I'm glad the EuroLeague has switched back to actually jumping when the ball is tied up.
Jump balls should only be jump balls if the teams can choose the jumpers. There's nothing to be gained by a center and a point guard jumping it up. Possession should probably just alternate between teams... Or even just default to the defense. I mean, tying the ball up is a win for the defense. So they should probably just get that win.
We have a jump ball (start of the game) Then, when unclear when 2 players have control of the ball it is a *Held ball* :)
@@ArlieDaBunny - Thank you for being pedantic and adding nothing of value to the conversation.
Like, I don't actually care about your opinion, but this is the one case where your opinion would have been a more valuable contribution than the fact that you actually chose to share... Lol
@@JCPRuckus They should just give the ball to the defense in the event of a tie-up. Reward a scrappy defender for fighting for possession.
For people wondering, the EuroLeague and EuroCup are run independently of FIBA regulations, just like the NBA and G-League. FIBA themselves run the FIBA Champions League and FIBA Europe Cup professional leagues.
FIBA travelling rules are way better, cleaner and simple.
It makes it harder for the offense. Not really good or bad
well, they are slowly starting to implement NBA travelling rules :/
@@i-man872 Not exactly a bad thing. Rules over flash, competition over domination.
@@i-man872 it makes it basketball. it's as simple as that. 🤷♂️
@@i-man872 teams didn’t score nearly as much as they do now back in the day. It’s the way the nba rules and officiating it caters to the offense
The biggest differences for me are:
1) the ability to stay as much as you want in the pain on defense, which makes it important to play with a big man in FIBA
2) the shortest but rounder three point line
3) the traveling call
4) the 40 minutes games instead of 48, without stoppage of the clock (less time to make up for a lead)
5) the basket interference rule (which also makes it important to have big men, in combination with the fact that they stay in the paint)
keeping your big man in will just make my wing players foul him out and dunk on him. have my guards pump fake get him in the air then do the dwayne wade move. the travel call is retarded Jordan clearly didnt have possession of the ball so why would his steps count? the 3 point line n 40 minutes games is good tho
so... basically what the videos says but your personal opinion
no three second violation is dumb. positionless basketball allows guards to be useful too
the 3pt line is the worst part in FIBA basketball. i mean, even a little kid can shoot a 3 pointer from that distance...
@@AnimalLover77797 what the difference between 6.75(fiba) and 7.25(nba) is only half a meter u don't need that much more power in your shot lol to say that a kid could make a 3 pointer from 6.75 but not 7.25 is dumb af..if the difference was like basically 6.75 and behind half court you d be right
I did not know, that in NBA even the defence player has 3 sec time regulation. This explains why scoring in the NBA is easier. Additionally it prevents playing zone defence effectively.
If you're actually defending someone you can stay there as long as you want
@@asymbolofpurehatred that's why he mentioned zone defense.
@@asymbolofpurehatred when you’re on the offensive, you can’t stay at the paint. So the defense has to follow around his guy lol meaning that defensive rule is useless
@@markoliver314 well it helps if the big that the center is guarding isn’t a great shooter, he can stay in the paint and just recover when that player catches the ball
@@alabd9010 yeah, that's why most of the players in FIBA need to develop a jumpshot, even the bigs
this was not pointed out, but the duration of time outs are also very different
NBA longer time outs-more commercials
@@ladosvec5478 dude…you don’t understand how painful it is going through all those commercials as someone who didn’t grow up in America and isn’t used to all of that,my favorite sport is football(the real one) and it’s 45 minutes of complete non stop football,15 minutes of commercials, and then 45 more minutes of absolutely nonstop football.
The first NBA game I watched was the Bucks vs Nets game 7,absolutely insane game right?KD with the buzzer beater to force overtime,Bucks progressing to the next around against all odds…but I was too frustrated by the commercials to even say I enjoyed the game…the NBA has so many like-able and amazing characters…Luka,Gianiss,Zion,Jokic, etc…
But I can’t watch these awesome dudes grow into the players they can become because of the damn commercials 😂
Anyways that’s just my rant for today,I would’ve loved to follow all these talented youngsters on their journeys but…I’m sorry man, sometimes can’t even watch 5 seconds of ball without watching 5 MINUTES of commercials
@@justsomeguywithoutamustach9072 that's why when commercials start you: take a piss, get some food, check your phone, etc.
@@justsomeguywithoutamustach9072 fr , it's terrible, I'll go watch a whole youtube video and commercials still be playing
@@genieinthepot2455 yea that’s what I do when I watch football, usually I do something that takes 15 minutes but with the NBA it’s just so boring.Commercials feel like forever, and sometimes when one ends the other team calls timeout 4 seconds later and it’s even more commercials…so aggravating especially considering I have to stay up all the way up to 5 AM in my time zone to finish a playoff game.
Some more differences; block/ charge situations are different, basically in favor of the defensive team, charges are called more often. Time-outs can only be called by the coach when either the ref blowed his whistle or the opponent scored, not while the game is active. Om flopping, referees are allowed to give a technical foul and they do that in Fiba, so the NBA player should watch out for that ;). Not only a clear path to the basket foul will be called unsportmanlike (UF C4), its also a UF when there is a foul in a break when the ball is not tried to play. An inbounce foul by the defender in the last 2 mins of Q4 is called unsportmanlike and there is way more contact allowed, so the game is more physical. Also the backcourt rule is different. In the NBA, you can throw a throw in from the frontcourt to the backcourt. In Fiba you have to throw a throw in from the front court to a attacker in the frontcourt, otherwise it’s a backcourt violation
(The ones you gave are all correct, good job!)
Fiba has actually separate notions of interference and goaltending. Goaltending regards to hitting the ball after a shot.
Interference regards hitting the basket or backboard (or, even, the tower, I think), in such a way that it impacts the chance of the ball going in (according to the ref).
(so blindly hitting the backboard on a shot, and that shot hits, say, the top of the backboard with zero chance of ever going in, then it's nothing)
One thing to is the unsportsmanlike faul. I don't like how they changed the rules, once normal fauls are called USML, and some referees are way more rigid than others.
Another big difference is players can't call timeouts in FIBA only coaches can, and only in dead ball situations or after the opposing team scores. In the NBA you can call timeouts anytime with possession of the ball. This catches a lot of coaches out playing in European tournaments.
i loved watching olympic ball, they just let the players play and not argue every call like the NBA reviewing a foul for 5 minutes making the game borderline unwatchable
You argue about fouls the year you argued about so many players getting injured... Imagine that and trust me... You don't want that
@@diegosmurillo What are you talking about?
@@octopuspunch8877 he’s basically saying, if they let players play more physical and ignore fouls. Then the risky of injury becomes so much higher, especially thinking about this past NBA season with almost every all star injured. It sucks but the NBA is a business and they want to keep it running
@@inanCS_ That doesn't make sense. Many NBA players get hurt every season, no rule change concerning physical play has influenced those numbers in any way. The game is only interrupted more and there are more free throws. If the league really cared about the health of the players, the only sensible change would be fewer games in a season.
@@octopuspunch8877 yeah I know, i was just trying to explain what the other dude was saying. I was trying to understand his point of view, i get what you’re saying but his big emphasis was on this season. How many all star / super star players were out due to injury. Players have gotten injured before, but I don’t recall anything as bad as this season. There’s Klay Lebron AD Kawhi Kyrie Harden Jaylen Brown etc etc. There was also fewer games this season
While I'm willing to ignore the court size difference, as it mostly just boils down to FIBA using metric and NBA imperial (ignoring the fact that everyone should be using the metric system), all other FIBA rules seem to make it a simpler and quicker, and therefore better, game than the NBA.
If you think about it NBA games are a lot more intense vs. International. The rules are set in place for players to score, and not limit activity. World fiba cup isnt sustainable and no one really watches FIBA vs NBA games because its boring and players are limited in doing what they were trained in the NBA vs the World cup games. If you catch the Gist
@@TFade3Hence why people say that NBA is just entertainment. Fun to watch but the fundamentals of the game have been sacrificed for show
@@Tuntira "Just entertainment" is the WWE, the NBA still have the best athletes who agree to a set of rules which should be fairly applied. If it was just entertainment they wouldn't be able to still dominate the Olympics even without their best possible team
@@heroe1486 You're right I was wrong to say that, however, I still feel like there the NBA has diluted it's sporting integrity for glitz and glammer. Case I point, when LBJ, broke the scoring record and the game stopped to have an event to honor the occasion. I know of no other sport (not predominantly played in the USA) that would do this. I mean, there is still a game to be played and won and the court is flooded with cameras trying to take in the moment..... It's wild
this was not on the list but smiling doesn't get you a technical foul in FIBA

Not true, FIBA refs are absolute 🤡 who have no idea what the hell they are doing. They were one of the reason for our (Slovenian) loss against France today and they have been absolutely shocking for the whole tournament. NBA refs might be bad sometimes, but these FIBA refs are amateurs.
That’s not true at all
If I am not mistaken, the travel rule was updated in 2018 (At least in Brazil, where I played. It's called step-0 directly translating from portuguese, and should not count as a travel when players take The first step without dribbling The ball, as it is in NBA)
em inglês é a msm coisa só inverter
ent ao inves de passo zero eles falam 0 step
Regardless of the rules, NBA is doing something wrong, the game has become so boring, audience are massively leaving the game, while Europe's basketball remain very similar to old school basketball, the game we all fell in love with.
When you compare numbers, it would be good to summarize in the end (i.e. so the size difference between the courts is xx m)
I think the nba should adpot the smaller court size and the fiba three point arc. During the shortend 3 point arc years 3 point shooting was lesser since it was easier for defenders to recover and defend. Plus the the no 3 second rule as well will make it harder for the offense.
@@jmgonzales7701 that is never going to happen. NBA is regarding new rules that limit defense even more. And they do that on purpose, because over 70% of people that watching NBA want to see more baskets scored. NBA is doing what fans want. I personally prefer rules that favours defense but the reality is what it is.
@@vasiljambazov Yeah me to i prefer rules that favor defense because I like to see that when a player finally scores it means something. Scoring now days does not mean something its not as exciting anymore. I like low scoring games more than the inflated 120-130 jacking up 3 point shot. But your probably right.
@@jmgonzales7701 - I would go the opposite route. The NBA court should get wider so that the 3pt arc can be the same distance all around to eliminate the short corner 3. In fact, it should be be widened however much it takes to push the 3pt line back far enough to make a 3pt shot analytically equal to a midrange jumper. Everyone wants to play 3pt heavy basketball because of analytics, but it's terrible to watch unless a team has the personnel to make it work, and most teams don't.
@@JCPRuckus True that not everyone is Golden state. I long for the 2000s basketball slower pace and emphasis on defense.
The obvious difference is the nba rule book is used to as a door stop, where as in fiba it is actually used to ref the game

People think I'm hating when I say Giannis isn't the "best player in the world" ... He's amazing but totally benefits big time from NBA rules...the extra step, offensive fouling, inability of teams to be able to play a true pack line, true zone defense
That can be said about a lot of players imo. Except a few who can almost always adapt like LeBron, Kobe, Kyrie, Durant, Luka. Some players who are not very good at adapting are Westbrook, Harden, Beal etc.
Giannis in FIBA championships is not the same as in NBA, for example, last summer at the European Championship, his team Greece didn't make a good performance
@@ShivamSharma-5622 Harden played well in FIBA. Watch the gold medal game of the 2014 FIBA World Championship
Honestly, could go either way on this as to who's rules I like more. I'm a fan of the OG notion of 1 standard, 1 basketball bible, that is adhered to by all. This is what the game's founder incisions, and you see this in many of the original rule books. I'd like to see FEBA work with the NBA to find universal standards to smooth the differences in games. This would build a better game, in my opinion. The game these days takes a lifetime of development. To have one hard fast rule be present all the way through childhood to suddenly be different in an adult arena can vastly inhibit proper growth in skill and mindset as player grown from children to adults.
One thing I noticed that I love is the refs really protect the defenders alot better, charges are called more and any time the ball handler swings his arm and makes contact with the defenders face its a foul so the offensive player has to play alot mor in control
Pretty sure the face thing is an nba foul too.
@@harmonicarchipelgo9351 it gets called so rarely though, you might see it called once every 4 games. I've seen it called about twice a game in these Olympics

I quit watching NBA 2 years ago, i just cant watch players getting 40+ points without the other team playing defence, i love more when a player gets 20 points but the other team is accualy playing defence and oh steals and blocks are only 50% of defence.
Nah nba rules makes defenders more disciplined and more skilled you can't just have lateral movement you have to time your shot contest well and when you attempt to steal the ball you can't just touch a players hand. Some players abuse it but the NBA is making foul baiting way harder next season.
You missed an incredible finals. Bucks won on strong defense and efficient scoring.
@@Wallyworld30 Bucks are the only team actually playing d
@@John-si8so I noticed on team USA they weren't playing strong defense until Australia took that 15 point lead. If they let France get up that big I don't think they come back.
then you'd i think you would like watching curry, dude basically gets triple teamed all the time while still scoring 30+.
Traveling one (last one in the video) has been changed some time ago. Now the ball in FIBA rules doesn't have to touch the floor before you make the step but it has to leave your hand on the way down instead.
I know its a bit late to comment but you're wrong. The ball does need to touch the ground before taking the pivot off. The rule that was changed was that now FIBA also has a gather step
I agree that NBA should adapt Fiba Rules perhaps except the goaltending rule ... I think NBA is right not to touch the ball when it is still bouncing on the rim
Wilt Chamberlain taught the NBA early on about how 7 foot athletic freaks alter the game compared to mere mortals. Those goaltending rules with NBA size and athleticism would be wonky.
I think the question basically starts from what are the leagues in Europe compared to the NBA.
European teams play for the national championship: if they finish at the bottom of the standings they are relegated to the lower division, if they are in the top positions they enter European competitions. So it is decisive to win not only to have the national title, but also to have the opportunity to access international competitions and, above all, to avoid relegation. The NBA is a championship closed in on itself, which has lost its being a sport to become a show and has finished bowing to the demands of showbusiness
I'm Italian, former basketball player but I love this sport since I started practicing it 50 years ago. I loved the NBA with Karim and Magic and Bird, the NBA at the time had stars but it also had teams, there was team play...which you can see again a little with Luca: look the shocked faces of the opponents when Luca passes the ball instead of shooting
You better not be dissing the 90s
In short, NBA rules are made for entertainment, FIBA rules are made for serious play.
I think that nba became funny with all those draw fouls and fiba rules are good

3:00 nice you included Team Gilas vs China
All minus court and 3pt line
@@CobiVonSchweetz Jesus Loves You
Clear path fouls being "flagrant". It is annoying
No defensive 3 seconds would fix so many of the modern issues
Corner 3P shots in FIBA court are closer to the rim, as well. Great vid, by the way!
How so? The NBA distance for corner three is 6.7m whilst Fiba is 6.75m on the corners as shown in the video
@@yunan9610 FIBA is 6.6m from the corners. The width of court is 15m and 3P line is 0.9m away from the side line. So, 15-(0.9*2) /2 = 6.6m
Yes, the 3 pt line is technically closer by 1.5 cm (half an inch) from the corners, this just makes the FIBA line more consistent around the arc than the NBA line which ranges from 23'9" (7.4 m) from the top to 22'(6.7 m) from the corners. However, the FIBA 3pt line has changed in the last couple of years to where it needed to get closer in the corners since they extended it from the top: you simply would not have enough room to shoot from the corners if it measured 6.75 m from the corners as well.
@@fromtheoutside 15cm, not 1.5cm
@@NeBixAt Oops, my bad^^ Though, my original assertion is still true: 15 cm (5.9 inches) is still more consistent and makes much less of a difference than the NBA measurements.
In FIBA rules also
When a free shot is thrown the players are not allowed to get into the paint until the ball hits the rim or the glass.
When I started watching the NBA again after years and years I was baffled by the blatant travels I kept seeing..now I know why
Flopping has run amuk in the NBA. They need to penalize players for pretending to get fouled.
well to be fair the gather step is more smooth
when you catch a ball on a break for example the gather step allows for smoother motions
- the travel is not true, the gather step is already in Europe
- also you can't call timeouts during the game according to FIBA, you have to be inbounding or taking FTs to call a timeout
- fouls and length of quarters goes side by side, that's why NBA has 4x12 and 6 fouls and FIBA has 4x10 and 5 fouls
So the 'zero step' actually also exists in FIBA from i think the 2019-2020 season. When a player is in motion and takes control of the ball while in midair (so not with one foot on the floor) the first step you take is called the 'gather step' or 'zero step', your next step will count as the first step so the rule applies as explained in the video. Meaning you can only have 2 steps to finish or, when dribbling, you have to release the ball before your first step.
I'm from Greece and imo when I see NBA players walk all around the place without dribbling the ball it just looks funny. They should be more strict about travelling in the NBA. I'm pretty sure that Giannis won't be able to drop 30 points in a Eurobasket game because of the rules. I love Giannis and his game but sometimes it depends on that extra step that is allowed in the NBA.
Also the number of minutes in fiba reduce the chance of getting injured
No, players dont play 48 minutes in the NBA!!! LOL, they only play as much as they can.
Not really. Not many players are playing the full 48 minutes of game time.
My sofa reduce the chance of getting injured
@@amjan still the relative amount of play time goes down, 30 minutes is considered a bunch of minutes, while some NBA stars go close to 40 minutes
@@DaGuys470 Not to mention overtime minutes
The travel one isn't correct anymore. Yes you need to keep your pivot foot, but when at the dribble start you can release your pivot before the ball hits the ground, but the ball needs to hit the ground before that foot touch the floor again
As an update to #6: we no longer use the term "cylinder" when talking about basket interference in FIBA; the only thing that matters is whether the ball is touching the basket /ring or not with a chance to go in when/if the Off or Def contacts the basket, net, or backboard. Also, there is a slight difference between FIBA and NBA when it comes to the ball contacting the backboard on a shot: in the NBA once it touches the backboard you can't touch it, but in FIBA the ball has to be completely above the rim when contact occurs for there to be goaltending.
00:17 ahahhahah thats a basic RULE...thats actually a RULE that NBA changed a few years ago because players were always travelling and refs werent calling any travels...
The rule that should be adapted is the offensive goal tending rule. Ball should be live in the NBA as soon as it touches the rim
Exactly!
I been saying this for years, the bigs need a "buff" in the NBA and this would really help that. I would also like to see the 3pt line standardized from top to sides. Preferably the longer one like NBA, and if the court isn't large enough then widen the court.
@@austinclark6385 The FIBA measurements are done in line with the court size. They are not arbitrary. Having the same distance from any point from the basket makes sense and does not give you easy shots from the side as it happens in the NBA.
They will need to expand the court if they use the NBA size which I am not sure the NBA will want - bigger court, more time to traverse it but also more space for attackers to utilize. They should simply adapt the normal FIBA size in my opinion.
@@8wayz2shine - Nah, anything that can make 3pt heavy analytics ball less prevalent is the right direction. Wider court to eliminate short corner 3s, and maybe even keep making it wider so you can push the 3pt line back even further. FIBA made a mistake by rounding down to the nearest whole meter instead of rounding up. Bigger, faster, stronger modern players means that the court should get bigger to compensate.
If you could take the ball off the rim kawhi shot against the sizers probably gets tipped out
The NBA should change all the the rules to match the Fiba rules so its easier for players to adapt and the I think the Fiba rules are way better in my opinion
Just get rid of flopping and alow a little more contact just that and the NBA are good again
@@franmadaraki616 agreed
@@eekrzfun ya you right thats man
@@eekrzfun there are no 100+ point games because they play 8 minutes less and the defense has more „rights“. The cylinder rule makes absolutely no difference
@@eekrzfun You rather see a 144-146 score, in which the last 2 minutes actually take 15 minutes because of the intentional fouling, time-outs etc? So you've seen good players score the ball a bunch of times, without any proper defense? I'd rather see a early 2000's NBA game than the game it's become today. Plus, there are times even in FIba in only 40 minutes they score 100 points.
FIBA is better at basketball wise, NBA is better in general but I reckon the NBA needs to implement most of the FIBA Rules
FIBA rules are better with exception to the goaltending. Ofc, the dimensions are not rules and thus irrelevant
Do you think the dimensions somewhat affect tha game in someway? Like scoring and defense?
@@jmgonzales7701 In my opinion, the differences of the court size between FIBA and NBA are too small to have any profound effect to the game. However, the distance of the 3-pt line to the basket may have effect on the scoring. The NBA distance is perhaps a bit more enjoyable imo.
@@jazzeuphoria So do you think a more compact and narrow court size and 3 point arc would have some effect on the game? i.e harder to score?
@@jmgonzales7701 i think it would be easier to score honestly with a smaller court
@@franekretek4436 It is easier to shoot, but a closer 3 point line also means the help defenders are closer and there's less space for players to drive to the rim, so overall it is harder to score.
In the NBA it isn't just inside the cylinder. Defense players cannot touch a shot once it is traveling in a downward motion. A block must occur while the shot is still going up or before it begins to fall.
The difference is that the NBA is entertainment and FIBA is sport
Im so happy that I just watched a kevin Knox 3 ball in this video with a global audience
Another difference is on allowed fouls per quarter before penalty free throws (aka, bonus). In any quarter, FIBA always allows 4, and the 5th is penalized. In overtime, foul count from 4th quarter is not reset. In NBA, when the clock is less than 2 min in any quarter, only 1 unpenalized is allowed if the team has committed less than 4 fouls. In OT, foul count is reset and each team is allowed 3 fouls before bonus. Same rule of clock under 2 minutes applies.
Great content, but I believe rule 10 has been changed few years ago, and you are allowed to have “gather step” after a pass, before bouncing the ball.
I think it has always been that way......the problem is that NBA added the word gather step because people (americans) didnt understand the pivot rules.
You must dribble the ball 1st when you receive the ball.
But you have to have full possession 1st.
The biggest problem is that NBA refs dont call this type of travels anymore and they cant understand the concept of gathering the ball, they think you can move forward and make several steps without dribbling the ball because you didnt gather the ball (which is wrong)because if you are moving forward sooner or later you will carry the ball...
@@onlyfacts3178 the rule was implemented into the FIBA rulebook officially in i believe 2018, it was always in the NBA but Linas was referencing it's addition into FIBA
@@HypeReflection OK
Simple: NBA rules allow players to perform more exhibitions, thus attracting fans and increasing the Association's budget as a result. Europe, it's all about the team effort, there are rarely any players that would be considered all stars, super stars. Even players like Luka, while he showed his skills during his time in Europe, he didn't average 26.8pts 8.5rebounds and 8 assists per game (his career averages), he just couldn't have, it's not the same playstyle. Also, the difference between two teammates' salaries is not that large. You won't find a player in Europe earning 30-40mil per year while his teammate earns 1-2million. The disparity of this proportion doesn't exist and no one is treated much better than the next guy. And the referees certainly won't call fouls on "better" players. All players are treated equally in Europe. The same cannot be said for the NBA whereas a superstar will almost always be able to draw a foul, while some average NBA player attempting to do the same will probably result in a turnover, miss, but basically a no-call from the refs.
yes...that's all correct but the major difference is NBA is for business profit while FIBA is gives more space for basketball the real one.
theres also 5 sec behind the back vs 5 sec closely guarded.
Great video!
The fiba rule that should be added to NBA the most is no 3 sec violations for defense
FIBA Rules: you can actually play real basketball
Yes minus the goaltending thing. Fiba needs to drop that rule
there's a head coach challenge now recently added for FIBA rules 2022.
I like how FIBA got rid of that angled free throw area and switched to regular NBA style.
NBA needs 3 things only:
1) Charge for Flopping.
2) Less timeouts.
3) Handcheck allowance
Remove the defensive 3 seconds violation so each player can make a proper defense such as zone defense because the defensive 3 seconds is also the reason why its easier to score in the NBA compare to international games
The Hand check should be brought back because of the players like Kyrie, Steph or Durant. Those players were quite flashy with the ball once they get away with the defender it's over for the other team every possession
Also they should allowed the Offensive players to Slap the defenders hands whose doing the handcheck
in the nba, new rules were added because of good players. fiba doesn't do this which keep everything consistent
Amazing video! Keep on making em
I thought, in the NBA, you can block a shot above the rim as long as it's on an upward trajectory. Once it starts coming down, then it would be goal tending. Maybe I'm wrong.
You are correct
We need FIBA rules and referees applied to the NBA
NBA fragile egos wouldn't allowed it, They can't even admit the mistakes that they committed befor
@@Ralphueyyy0510 not a 🏀 related, it should be ᜇ̵ᜎ̟ᜉ̟ because baybayin is a syllabic script so the spelling is based on how you pronounce it, so "h" doesn't make sense it is just a breathy air h that you can't hear if you pronounce Ralph.
You forgot a major one: Double dribble. In FIBA you can´t use your giant hands to take control of the ball off a dribble and then just continue dribbling.
In fiba you have 3 time outs at the second half but under 2 minutes you are allowed to use 2. For example if you haven't call a timeout for 18 minutes you can't have 3 at the last 2.
3:09 head butt ni Calvin Abueva yon ah. Buti hindi isinama yung siko ni Ranidel de Ocampo.😅
NBA: score buckets and make money
FIBA: play some proper basketball including defense
The worst one is the travel violation at fiba and the timeout has limited at fiba
Not sure how NBA manages this, but in FIBA when the clock is under 2 minutes in the 4th quarter, if an offensive team player is within the 5 seconds of serving the ball, the ball isn't still on play and a defensive player commits a foul to any player, the ref will call for an unsportsmanlike foul (ie, 2 free throws and possession).
nba: you can travel - fiba: nope
You miss one important one. In FIBA it is allowed the "zone defense". In NBA only one to one defense is allowed.
Most of these NBA rules are relatively new, it wasn’t like this before. Fiba basically is the same as ncaa. The only big rules difference for the longest time was the goaltending.
The NBA seems to think that anything that increases scoring makes the game better. But that is only true is the game is a defensive slog and low scoring. a 150-135 game to me is way more boring than a 95-80 game. That's one of reasons why the college game is so much more exciting
as a player that plays in Australia with the fiba rules, i don't think the NBA players can play 82 games with the fiba rules
Your league is much softer
@@IAmTheJamesAnthony i love the nba. But it really is the softest league out there with no regular season defense at all
@@chrisrose7286 You guys say this every time and then NBA players come and stomp Fiba international players using their own rules every single time.
Fiba rules are better and should be adopted by the nba except for the 3 point line and court size
the 3 point line makes sense because it should be the same distance at all points. and also why not use metric units, it just makes life easy
Same thing like the foreign players adjust themselves when they come into the NBA,also NBA players adjust themselves when they play on the Olympics and World Championships...it's really not that big of a deal. You can see the resaults after all. From '92-'00 and from '08-'20 team USA took the gold medals.
European players have no problem adapting to the NBA, their technical and tactical foundations are stronger than in the NBA, most Europeans who play in the NBA feel that it is easier to play there than in the European leagues.
You missed a lot in there, and got stuff wrong. The FIFA 3 point line is not the same the whole way around, this changed years ago. You mention tech fouls, but not how they differ from unsportsmanlike, 1 verse 2 free throws and both include possession, you didn’t mention that both are included in you 5 person fouls. Goal tend is not just after the ball hits the backboard, but also downward motion. Timeout can only be called at stoppages, by the coach. Free throw shooter has 5 second not 10, to shoot, RIP Giannis, and the shooter and players outside the three can not move in full the ball hit the ring. The jump ball alternates, an important point you complete miss explained. A possession arrow is used with alternating possession after the initial jump.
FIBA Technical Fouls are just 1 free throw, they dropped the possession part in 2018
I still don't understand fiba's travel rules. When you are "pivoting" aren't you lifting a foot and taking a step? How do you know which foot counts as the pivot foot if a standing player receives the ball?
in that case the player can choose which leg he wants to use as his pivot foot
@@kokkidaa so that's the same as the nba. In the NBA, you also can't take an extra step unless its your pivot foot, but they are trained to catch on the hop so that they are essentially standing and can take that pivot step
That Abueva headbutt is too good hahaha
I always known the starting step is a difference, but it was until I played ball vs player from state where every single catch of his was a travel in european rules, frustrating.. and he didn't get it either
I think NBA would be a better league if they implemented these rulles and officiating - maybe with exception of the goaltending and defensive 3sec
If Manute Bol played with FIBA rules nobody would score vs his team. He'd stand under basket all game and goaltend all night.
@@Wallyworld30 3 pts

The biggest difference is; in NBA you can take what ever you want, in FIBA not.
wow there are way many more differences than i thought
FIBA is really sports... NBA is business

💯% agree
Fiba goaltending rules are strange lmao
They let players play!
@@amjan They let defenders punch the ball out of the basket
@@TheHuskyK9 only in times when the ball doesn't have a chance to go in. Like, when THEIR HANDS ARE INSIDE THE BASKET 😂🤣
@@TheHuskyK9 It is also helps offenders to easily dunk on offensive rebounding a missed shot
Imagine how many tweets the offensive player will had after the game if that actually happen
Being European I would like the NBA to adopt some rules which benefit more efficient defending ; Abolition of the def. 3-seconds , stricter traveling rules and unsportsmanlike fouls . As for FIBA , 2 good NBA - styled adaptations would be the introduction of coach's challenges per will and the revision of timeouts being called wherever a coach thinks is suitable instead after ONLY having ball possession .
some fiba- based tournaments (i.e. the NBL1 tournaments in australia) have adopted coaches challenge as of recently
I think there's now a Coach's challenge in FIBA effective October 2022
The fact that travelling is a difference between the leagues signifies the NBA is far from traditional basketball. Hence why I stopped watching the regular season for the past 4-5 years
I am not sure I understood #10, what's the difference in the traveling rules? I was under the impression they were the same after the last FIBA rule change when the gather provision was put into the FIBA rules. I am btw a referee for over 10 years with FIBA rules.
that in Nba you can move the pivot step before putting the ball on the floor. With Fiba Rules you have to dribble first. Essentially In Nba you can start quicker and easier a penetration.
Nr.6: it's allowed to touch the ball on his way up, if it's coming down you can't touch it!
I know is a bit like the Imperial versus SI units argument, but it's diificult to understand why they don't unify the rules. It would be the best thing for basketball. While they're at it, both courts are too small. 3-point lines are too close to the basket. And the rim needs to be raised.
One more thing- in FIBA, an assist is awarded to the guy that last passed to a player who: got fouled on a shot & made at least one FT
i believe the last one isnt like that anymore in fiba basketball but dont quote me on that
NBA should introduce the FIBA way of sanctioning travelling. However it doesn't, for the sake of the show.
