I could never fathom that you could create crazier drums than the original but you have blown my mind! Your brilliance is beyond imagination incredible work with this!
Blows my mind every time I revisit this. I would love to see you replicate drone logic by Daniel avery. I managed to catch him playing that live whilst peaking on acid - fond memories 🤩
Love your process, methodical, educational and with a hint of chaos. Feel like I've heard this riff from one of yr other vids before, very familiar....
heh indeed! I was working on this the same day of one of my earlier streams, so the very first thing in that stream was a quick run of the patch I still had set up. rest of that entire stream is just jamming away on the same patch. cant recall which vid it was though...
man I feel like youre the most talented electronic musician i've ever seen but feel like this is the first time i've heard you play something that could be jammed....you gotta get a good producer that can pull that sound out of you man you got too much talent.
Is your set up on modulargrid Colin? Would be great to get a proper tour sometime so you could talk us through what module choices you made and how you use them in your tracks.
Here's my current full collection (in no particular order) www.modulargrid.net/e/racks/view/417103 its not all in my case since it doesnt quite fit. but I'm working on a new setup where I will have access to everything.
i wanna make the same type of music on a modular but i dont know what this genre is called or how to start builiding something that sounds similar. any advice?
I'm replying one year late, but if it can be of any help, he makes a lot of his bass lines on a Korg ms 20. The Morgasmatron filter by Intellijel is supposedly a good imitation of the filter from that synth. Then as an oscillator I think you could use any module that makes saw and square waves. For all the glitchy percussions I'd say the fastest route is to have some sort of sampler, because you would otherwise need a huge system to emulate all those different textures at the same time. There are also some really interesting digital percussion modules out there, like the WMD fracture, chimera and crucible. For the kick and sub bass something like a basimilus iteratas alter might work, though it might not be very accurate (it has a huge range though, and it sounds really nice in any case). You obviously need an EQ and a compressor for drums to fine tune them and get a polished sound, or you could have external hardware or software for that. You also need some nice long reverbs and granular delays, to make those super lush atmospheres Jon has in most of his tracks. Something like the mutable instruments clouds. He uses a lot of field recordings, vocals, piano, strings, etc that he uses to make his atmospheres. For that the only way is sampling and reverb. Throw a distortion module of some kind in there and some digital mangling effects like a bit crusher, a delay module too, a bunch of utility modules, sequencers, LFOs and envelopes and you could make something that maybe has a similar aesthetic. But honestly, his music is heavily reliant on resampling and using a ton of digital effects, without a massive system you couldn't do it. I would personally just try to recreate the stuff he does with analog synths, like the bass lines or the pluck sounds and maybe the kick and do everything else digitally. TL;DR: you can make the bass with any oscillator and a Morgasmatron, for everything else you're better off with software
I hope that Jon Hopkins has heard this. Well done Colin. This is the nuts.
I read that he makes a lot of his tracks by resampling his synths, which makes it more impressive that you did all this live.
I could never fathom that you could create crazier drums than the original but you have blown my mind! Your brilliance is beyond imagination incredible work with this!
One of my favourite artist playing another another one of my favourite artist on a modular system. Thank you !
Man, this thing is solid company to the original!
Damn, this is impressive, his sound design seems untouchable
All studio accidents with tons of gear are untouchable and unique. The kind of unique as any pile of dog shit is unique in form and composition.
@@theeltea You din't have to compare your life with the studio accidents tho but yeah
@@Nikhil-ub3is I'd worry about your own if I were you. Nice necro, btw
@@theeltea I'm getting the word... Bum 😂
@@xgtwb6473 someone's getting it
Simply incredible
Wow man, just wow. Such attention to detail, especially with those super-tricky hats. Amazing cover/recreation of on of my all-time favorite tracks!
this video deserves way more than the current view count
Amazing and detailed cover.
If Jon hasn't seen this then that is a crime, he'd be impressed
Colin Benders = Stephan Bodzin - software + hardware + hair
To be fair 90% of Stephan Bodzin's tracks are the Moog Sub 37
"+ hair" ;p
Neh, the style is totally different.
@@cueva_mc not so much... The vibes are pretty similar but Bender is much harsh for sure
Soooo good! Absolute nostalgia
An all time favourite
Great creative experience doing something not many could begin to wrap their head around on a modular system. Congrats.
Good lord, this must have taken ages. Brilliant work
This is absolutely incredible! 🤯
This is godlike. Like mastering music composition which I thought is infinite, to the maximum.

id end up strangling myself in all those wires! great effort man... a question - the main lead line that squelches, how do you do that?
Mr Bit Music opening and closing a low pass filter

It's a little bit lonely down here,
It's a little bit faint without you near,
Without you near... (:
Ain’t no fucking way you recreated this piece into modular? Gah damn.

Красавчик
Is it just Colin skillz or does Open Eye Signal feel like a track naturally suited to a modular rendition?
this is awesome! how did you do all this glitchy hi hat in the background?
