Not only an amazing artist, Jon Hopkins is a wonderful man. A year ago I wrote to him how much his music helped me in time when I divorced.. especially when I was returning my daughters to my ex.. I was driving listening to his Immunity album and many times I had tears in my eyes. Well, he replied to me saying that he is thankful for my words and the impact his music had on me.. Not many would do something like that. He is someone with a deep heart and soul, and that is obvious in his music.
This music video is all feeling, all flow, all sensory, all coherence, no commercialism, no frills, no exaggeration, no false motives. So pure it grows on you.
The look on that young man's face is something I recognize all too well, or atleast, they picked an amazing actor the face of living life to the fullest, enjoying it, just being in the zone. Being happy. Being in the moment. Being thankful. Enjoying right now to the fullest, and realizing it in the moment with a smile on your face. Man, I can't wait to try LSD again. It gives me all those feelings sober. The first time I watched this was during a trip, and it had me completely zoned in studying every detail. One thing I remember clearly is thinking "he's feeling the same thing I am.. Incredibly Lucky."
Until about 10 years ago I worked as a bartender in a pub. Even today the patrons tell me that they came to my club for the quality of the music. Of course, Immunity was one of the most played albums.
Such a fresh perspective on electronic music. The song moves seamlessly from Eno-esque ambience to a colossal techno beast. Hopkins has produced perhaps the most subtle yet forceful pieces of music I have heard in years.
the beginning of the video... where the skateboarder appears out of nowhere jumping over the fence and skates into the jon hopkins grooves…phenomenal. one of the best video + music syncs ever.
I don't normally go in for quotes but watching this video with that music I finally truly understood Picaso's quote 'We all know art is not truth. Art is a lie that makes us realise the truth.'
I discovered this tune back in 2014. It had a massive impact on me. I kept it on replay for days and weeks, and my taste in music has changed ever since. This tune has really shaped who I am now!
this is one of those songs that the music video highly enhances ... i heard this song once before seeing the video and kinda liked it, but after hearing it and seeing this kid just go on and on on, i dunno something about it made me appreciate the song so much more. if you see me on the madrid metro listening to music with my eyes closed it's probably this song i'm listening to.
Saw him live in Edinburgh a few weeks before lockdown started, and it made up for everything else I'm going to miss this year. Genuinely the best gig I've been to, split perfectly in half between his ambient piano and tunes like this and Emerald Rush. For half the set the audience sat in enraptured silence listening to his piano. and for the other half the whole of the Usher Hall was stood up, raving. Never seen a gig like it: it was the perfect way to end my second year at uni before corona hit, so grateful.
This fills the 8 minute drive from my house to Sainsbury's perfectly, a bit anticlimactic as it ends all I have to look forward to is buying a loaf of bread & 6 pints of milk though.
lol wtf really?in the entire skateboard culture you know one big youtuber and automatically consider him the most inspiring...no gonz, tony hawk, rob dyrdek, muska, thomas, mullen, song, jason lee, etc.
I had a shitty exam today and on my way home I listened to this, It gave me the feeling of moving on and never to look back. That what it meant to me at least today. Great tune indeed.
To me this song more than any other I can think of, is as if ecstasy was in music format... The peaks and troughs but also the ambience, sheeeeet it may as well be circa 2000...wild and very well done.
it's amazing how you can hear so many things in one song. how it can incite so many feelings. i see and hear freedom and liberation with the video alongside. but then i return and there's an edginess, and a solitude, even sorrow. the genius that is jon hopkins
I'm 61 now and keep coming back here to make sure people are still listening to proper music ..they are🙏
66 here . still coming back also.
Go on checking, 52 here. =)

i am glad you found some peace. Keep your stick on the ice, we're all in this together - Red Green
hey man, did you recovered from the heartbreak? I hope you are doing well now. :-)
this song is an antidote
Life is a journey and music makes it a more pleasant experince
One of those very tracks you never get tired of listening to
I know, I feel like this beat is like a permanent part of my life. And the skateboarder with the bruised face just going and going is so beautiful.

Every once in a while, I forget about that song for a few months. Then I rediscover it, and I'm having a blast again. Simply amazing.
You should check out the remastered version, it will blow you away. Sounds so much better even

@@SuperOMGFTWBBQ And me too. It's on the Immunity LP [WIGLP298]
Best track of the last decade for me
Oh yeah! This is transcendent
One of the best things I've ever heard. Electronic music at its best.
So it's been 7 years, anyone heard anything else even remotely as good as this?
Nope
Not remotely...but would love some suggestions. Anybody?
@@CajanCanuck Moderat - Therapy, The Blaze - Runaway. John Hopkins - Midnight.
jamie xx - idontknow - listen to it
Ofcrourse yes.
It's mildly terrifying that this beauty is 11 years old (as of 05.07.24). Celebrate everything, while you can.

Jon hopkins + Moderat = best live performance

Stunning beat there guys
its a MS20 - he used it for the whole album for the basslines
Noticed how the first kicks that the skater do are in sinc with the beat
this song is timeless , 5 years since i discovered this one and still never gets old
same, listening to it every day
The snare is love, the snare is life.
the silhouette of him against the backdrop of palm trees and pink sky is beautiful stuff. absolute classic tune.
This song SLAPS forever.
I don't normally go in for quotes but watching this video with that music I finally truly understood Picaso's quote 'We all know art is not truth. Art is a lie that makes us realise the truth.'
What an intense song, what a beautiful young man
Chris Chan!!
Easily one of the best songs of the 2010s

do you have any music recommendations?
It did that to me and I'm 61.
It's like being water...flowing ...life in front and behind... but the present soo present.. wonderful!!
this music is soul meditation... i can find myself
10 years later, still going strong.
This tune gets me.through the hardship of life ❤️
This song feels like the world pushing against itself. Loved it a decade ago. Still love it.

You might think this song is simple but how it is slowly progressing is pretty genius.
Just ridiculously good, still

I have to agree with ya on that.
wtf did i just read?
So you like this song?
I know what you mean. Now when I hear this song the video plays out in my head and the combination just makes it better, like meditative.
heysatan8 I feel the same way... It's an awesome feeling!
Amazing song and one of the few music videos that actually improve the listening-experience.
Very true...
I'm glad 5 million people watched the future of Techno unfold right before their eyes, 5 years in advance.
Rawness that keeps going and going and going and...

It takes me to another world
I smoked pot with Jonny Hopkins. It was Jonny Hopkins, and Sloan Kettering, and they were blazing that shit up everyday.
ulterior motive probably the best comment i have ever read on youtube
***** Except that the name of the hospital is JohnS Hopkins, not John Hopkins.
ulterior motive stop, you never knew someone called Jonny Hopkins
You don't know anyone called Jonny Hopkins. Your a jagaloon. Brilliant film Step Brothers!
You mean you smoked weed. Only people who don't smoke call it pot. Or lames
best working energy
Really classy and amazing piece
Animal Collective opened with this song for their DJ set @ Grand Central in miami the other night. Love this artist.
Absolutely hypnotizing track
La liberté à...roulettes ! superbe voyage

@@Shad0wmoses yea, even if he not the Ogs yet he still motivated me to skate to my fullest extent
An incredible song... there really aren't many songs that can make me feel the way this song makes me feel. It's like a spiritual experience
What an intense Bassline!
6 years from this masterpiece.
was on mdma for the first time at john hopkins last weekend this tune was euphoric
This is a great track to listen to when walking for miles. Straight into the zen zone!
I love this song.
Damn, big fan of skateboarding here and just discovered Jon like 2 months ago. Can't believe Chris Chann did a video for this song. Best of both world
Fantastic tune.

The tension is thick.
This is one of my favourite clips and songs of all time. It's really subtle, but super powerful at the same time!
amazing after all these years.
Looked like he was skating through GTA5 scenery, even holds on to Trevor's pickup towards the end. Great track!
It does look like Sandy Shores lol
Nothing better than skating in california. The ground is so flat. So much different than where i live.
best track ever
I was searching for this song for 2 years, finally found it
I have no words to feel what I feel while watching this show

Soothe my soul during 2020 pandemic
This is one of the coolest videos ever
If you see me walking down the street and I'm listening to this song, you better step aside because nothing can stop me.
He's making history
After enjoying music obsessively for 60+ years, it takes something 'special' to get my attention. This does it. Hugely!
im just here for sweet tunes, everyone have sweet banter, cheers, black crow
if i was a DJ, this would be my closing tune every time without question, big up Hopkins.
Just discovered this... time to listen to his other albums
