    You can probably tolerate more “processed” or cooked dairy because your body doesn’t need to break it down from its raw form. Ie butter has been processed from pure milk and the buttermilk removed, which is why it’s easier to digest than just pure milk you’d drink.

    • @katiebrown218
      @katiebrown218 3 года назад +2

      For me, the protein is what I’m allergic to, so things like butter have a higher fat ratio are easier for my body to tolerate. Who knows, I think my primary issue with dairy is that I’m not a baby cow... actually that might just fix all my problems if I could just live life as a bebe cow

    Have you thought about changing the tog of your duvet. Going for a lower tog may help with how hot you get but still provide a nicer comforting thick duvet. Dunelm has some good deals on bedding and they also have some cute sets. I got all my bedding from there and at the moment have a miniature dauschand bedding set and blue-green bedding set. Or ASDA has some good sets. I would look around and see what fits with your budget xx

    About the duvet situation - I completely recommend going for a natural wool duvet, because it regulates your body temperature so you won't overheat (whereas polyester makes you v sweaty because is doesn't regulate your temperature). Honestly, natural wool duvets are game changers, and they stay puffed up and have a lovely weight so you feel all cosy without overheating. (I got mine from www.devonduvets.com which are made in the UK, but there are other fab companies too) xx

    i had a very similar experience with lactose intolerance- i couldnt have any dairy at all as a teenager without pain, etc. i can now have some dairy, but specifically know that dairy + sugar is an absolute killer for me still. i can have mac and cheese for dinner, but no (cows milk) ice cream or creme brulee for dessert. as grace said, its all about working with your doctor and experimenting to see what is comfortable for you. there are so so many more substitutes compared to even 5-10 years ago, too!

    Lactose levels vary within dairy products. Butter is very low in lactose, whereas milk is high in lactose. Different cheeses also have different levels of lactose. It's worth researching lactose levels in different dairy products and keeping a food journal to gauge how much lactose you personally can tolerate. Thanks for sharing your journey with dairy!

    Bedding - I suggest that, instead of a duvet, you have flannelette sheets top and bottom and get three of those thick fleece double blankets. There are few launderettes these days with machines big enough to wash a double duvet and, for the price of having them professionally done, you could buy a new one! If you use sheets and fleece blankets, you could wash them all separately at home, and use fewer or more blankets in accordance with need - Simples!

    The same thing happened to me when I was about 20, just became really intolerent to dairy. I never cut it out completely, but I really limited my intake. After about a year, I found I could eat most things as long as I didn't eat dairy on consecutive days. I'm 26 now and still don't eat that much dairy for other reasons, but it doesn't upset my gut at all anymore! Whole milk and ice cream where the last things to "come back"... I could eat a whole whole bowl of Ben & Jerry's now 😃

  • @AllisRetzman
    @AllisRetzman 3 года назад +1

    From my experience there is a difference between being lactose and dairy intolerant. If it’s especially dairy and you can’t even have lactose free dairy products, then I believe it’s an allergy, because your body can’t handle the milk protein. I don’t know if you lack the enzyme, or if it’s something else. If you are lactose intolerant but can have lactose free dairy products, you have a deficiency of the lactase enzyme. Lactose is the sugar in the milk, and lactase is the enzyme you need to have to be able to break down the lactose into glucose and galactose, which becomes energy (lactose is a disaccharide that consists of one molecule of the monosaccharide glucose, and one molecule of the monosaccharide galactose). Some people that are intolerant have some lactase enzyme and can handle some lactose sometimes, or enough to be able to eat things like cheese and butter without any problem. Other people don’t have the enzyme at all and can’t eat anything with lactose. When you’re body can’t break down lactose into energy it becomes “food” for bacteria in your large intestine (I think the correct translation is, I’m Swedish). It’s when the bacteria starts to eat the lactose your stomach can hurt, you become gassy etc. Humans aren’t supposed to be able to consume dairy past breastfeeding, but here in the north we developed a tolerance for lactose because we needed to be able to eat dairy to get vitamin D. This tolerance now seems to be devolving. I don’t know why, but I’m guessing it’s because we don’t eat the same way we used to and we’ve been exposed to other things that have screwed up or bodies and the good bacteria in our gut. Me myself have been lactose intolerant since I was ten, but seemed to develop an intolerance for gluten and pork as well two years ago. From what I know, all my intolerances are because I lack the enzymes necessary to break down the proteins and sugar.
    Sorry for the long comment, I’ve been lactose intolerant for the bigger part of my life, and I just read about it in my biology course, so I’ve accumulated some experience and knowledge.
    Love your videos!

    Hello! I’ve been lactose intolerant for 5 years now. Over time I have slowly re-introduced dairy and my body can now cope with small amounts. Something I have found really interesting is the different levels of lactose in different types of dairy products. This may be something that you’re interested in researching as can be very helpful in deciding appropriate food options with a lactose intolerance where you are trying to re-introduce the lactose ! X

    My son was the same as you from 1yrs could not have dairy, so he was on oat milk until 6, then we moved him to lactofree milk. He was on that for 2 years and has just moved onto normal cow's milk. So its taken 8 years for him to get use to dairy .

    the ‘comforter’ style in the US are quilts in the UK. there are plenty of lovely company’s that make their own, often custom made so you can choose the fabric. Rhiannon ashlee on youtube has one and i think she has a video talking about hers

    I’m allergic to anything from an udder, when first diagnosed my doctor I was 35 she said some people can deal with baked milk protein but not raw and to play with it. It didn’t work for me and I now travel with an Epi pen on hand. So glad you can have a biscuit now, enjoy! 💕

    Look up lactose content of different foods. Butter and hard cheeses like cheddar or parmesan are generally pretty low lactose and I can tolerate them just fine. For other things I pop a lactaid so I can enjoy myself but avoid unnecessary suffering. The antibiotics connection is really interesting, I also became lactose intolerant after a very long course but didn’t realize there was a possible connection.

    Many people develop secondary lactase deficiency later in life, it generally stems from damage to the mucosal lining of the intestines which leads to a reduced ability to produce lactase (which comes from the mucosal lining), the enzyme which allows you to digest and absorb dairy. Happens a lot after gastrointestinal illness (food poisoning etc) or after some medications or surgery. Your mucosal lining can recover over time, and grace is correct that it is helped with things like probiotics. Look after your gut, and start with small doses of lactose while it recovers! Allergies and intolerances are very different things, an allergy is an immune response whereas an intolerance is a reduced capacity to digest and absorb something, so what worked for grace might not work for you depending on what you're dealing with.
    Love grace and think she explained this really well, just wanted to share a bit of background knowledge :)

    If you eat a dairy product that upsets your stomach, it could be the pesticides/antibiotics given to the cow. It is best to make sure all your traditional dairy products are grass-fed/pasture raised. This has a big impact on quality.

    • @NatalieAngelx
      @NatalieAngelx 3 года назад

      Cows produce milk for cows no? Females, in all forms, whether human or animal, produce milk for THEIR BABY no? Are humans cow babies? Human mothers get pregnant, give birth and produce milk for their young and that's the SAME for cows and goats no???? The same if your dog or cat had babies too...

    • @NatalieAngelx

      "Grass fed/pasture raised" omg 😡 as mother "dairy cows" then get ground up for "beef" and bleed out, and their babies get crammed in a small cage for "veal" sick in the head really

    This is so interesting. My baby had a dairy intolerance whilst I was breastfeeding so cut it out of my diet. Then when they turned 1 they started having bits of yoghurt etc using the NHS milk train and was doing fine but got a nasty infection in their neck and needed intravenous antibiotics and since then they cannot handle anything with dairy in it. I will try adding in some more probiotic food things to his diet as we start the milk train again. Love your videos 🧡

    On the allergy/intolerance subject, I heard that scientists have now devised a way to transfer poo from one healthy person to one that had a less healthy gut and it worked. A bit gross, but if you think about the science behind it, it’s exciting progress!

    The BEST duvet inserts are the Stay Chill™️ duvet inserts from Pottery Barn Teen!! I LOVE mine, it’s that perfect podgy, with the square thing you were describing, and are really nice temperature (not too heavy and warm but not WARM), they also have an allergen barrier too, and as a bonus they male that crinkle sound when you pull the covers back to get into bed *straight cozy vibes*. They are kind of expensive $169 (which is without tax and shipping bc america never gives you the real price until you actually pay for things 🙄), and I’m not sure how much shipping would be for UK. But Grace (and others who may be interested) I cannot express to you how PERFECT they are for what you’re describing. I know I looked long and hard to find the perfect one and I hope you see this and it can work out for you.

    My daughter is milk protein and now recently egg intolerant (she’s 2 in June). I’ve tried the milk ladder with her a few times but I’ve left it now for a few months after a really bad reaction. When she does have a reaction non dairy probiotic drinks help loads, I would definitely recommend those as your trying to reintroduce foods!

    Allergies/intolerances are a wild ride. I tested positive for a wheat allergy in my 30s (Celiac runs in my family) and my husband can't eat a raw apple(terrible stomach pains) but cooked apple (like applesauce) he is fine. Maybe it's a box stitch duvet you want? It creates puffy squares across the duvet by the way it's stitched.

    For your matcha, just put it in a mason jar (or I use an old jam jar) with the water and shake it until it's all mixed up! Just shaking it a lot usually gets rid of the lumps for me! Also, your velvetiser might make a really nice frothy matcha latte too! :)

    To not get lumps in your drink, have warm oat or almond milk, mix it then add your cold milk and ice to the matcha drink. You could also make milk cubes instead so it doesn’t water it down. 🥳

    My doctor suggested I try and go dairy-free to help with my asthma ( singers are supposed to avoid dairy before a performance, as it makes you produce more mucus/coats your pipes) and the dairy alternative milks, especially the soy really had a negative impact on my periods! A few years later, I tried going gluten-free which has helped a lot more. I can still eat somethings that have gluten, like Dr Oetker thin crust pizza, but normal bread and pasta give me the same effects as you!
