When I wake up (during my fasting hours) I always drink a full glass of warm water with lemon, ACV, salt, ALA, carnitine, matcha teatox powder and wheatgrass powder.
I am 46 and never felt better.
I always work out fasted and I feel that my morning "juice" along with IF has given me the health benefits I was looking for.

Thomas, have you tried eating the whole lemon? That is, put in a blender everything, the skin, pulp, and pith. (It might be good to remove the seeds.) You can dilute it with water to reduce dental issues. Some people do this with their surplus of lemons that are about to go bad and freeze it for later. ( You could buy bulk in a store at a discount because they are getting old.)
On a related topic, have you tried to make the Moroccan preserved lemons? If you are looking for a topic for a cooking ( or food prep) this might be good. Fermentation is another one, an interview with Sandor Katz and publishing it on RUclips would be cool!

Hey Thomas, been following you and your advice for a few years. Love your work!!! Through all your videos and of course experimenting with what works for me, I have now found success. I legit know and understand my daily and weekly macros for optimal Body Fat Loss (BFP) and Weight Loss (Kg). You taught me so many things about how to break a fast the best way (This was definitely a issue) and what breaks a fast (Also an issue because I wasn't fasting when I thought I was) etc. I can't stand the smell of ACV let alone taste. So, every single morning I wake up and have my Lemon and Salt water to hydrate then have certain supplements fasted (You taught me which ones and why). Later when I eat proper, I take more supplements to help with being Vegetarian Keto. I've tried, failed and succeeded in going keto but due to mega gut health issues, I kept failing over the last 2 years. UNTIL I understood that Carrageenan was in EVERYTHING I ate as Vegan Keto. Switched to Vegetarian Keto and gave all the food away with the "bad" ingredients ... my weight and body fat % is decreasing every single week for 7 weeks now. Today I weighed in and discovered I dropped 1.4kg and 0.8% Body Fat last week. This new lifestyle is so awesome and I am beyond grateful for all the info you provide us. Thank you from my heart to yours, for helping me positively change my life, my health and my daily habits. I will forever be grateful Thomas.

There are a lot of beneficial nutrients found in the lemon peel alone.🍋 My favorite way to create lemon water, and it happens to be a classic method, is to shave off the outer rind (potato peeler) and steep it in hot water for 5 minutes. This will extract the antioxidants and nutrition into a kind of tea. Let it cool to room temperature then squeeze the remaining lemon into the mix. This method will get you the most benefit from lemon as a drink.

God Bless You, and thank you for sharing your research. One statement you made is very true (not that the others weren't), people fast for different reasons. I was a long term T2D faced with kidneys functioning at 28%. First thing my Dr did was take me off Metforman and called a Nephrologist and made an appointment. In rural Ohio, that was 7 weeks down the road! Not a fun place to be for 7 weeks. My research began. My course of action was LFLC diet (14 months now). Of that time about 5 or 6 months OMAD and I love it. Fifteen months I remain med free and kidney function now 68%! My goal was never to lose weight, my primary goal is to achieve metabolic health and remain unmedicated (still on bp meds). In my research regarding lemon water. As you pointed out, there are a lot of reasons to include lemon water while fasting. I chose to drink it upon waking. My one meal is at 10:00 am and I believed on an empty stomach, it would have time to help cleanse the liver and mitigate kidney stones ( never has any don't want any - i feel my kidneys were stressed enough. My research said i would 1/2 cup a day. I did this only for a few weeks. I still consider myself a diabetic, albeit in remission, I still have high morning blood glucose levels and the lemon juice didn't help (2 week experiment). 1/2 cup fresh squeezed lemon juice has 10 grams of carbs. On my ketogenic lifestyle, I limit carbs to 20 per day. I sincerely appreciate you sharing your research, mine has been rather limited in scope - metabolic lense. You have provided a broader perspective. I may need to reassess my carb limit. Thank you.

I now think it is important to get citrates into the diet which lemons do. Drink lots of water. Take care of the kidneys!

It is interesting an amusing all this info recently about Lemons.
I have been drinking fresh squeezed lemon in water with peel, pulp etc every morning since 51 years. Of course I will never know what my life or health would have been like had I not done it. This in addition to a very healthy and nutritious eating habit.
But I can say that I have never needed doctors nor medication and am in remarkably good health at nearly 76.
Sometimes I add apple cider vinegar, ginger, cayenne for a kick. I learned to like the bitterness of lemon to the point that I loved the taste. Knowing it has actually been healthy makes it even more tasty.
But do not misunderstand, I love black chocolate, cake and bacon but all in moderation and very disciplined. I have never felt deprived of anything and yet remained very Fit.

I also unterstood it that way that you should be ending your eating period with lemon water which is the same as starting your fasting time with it.
But it should probably be even better to additionally start the food uptake with it/start your eating window with a second glass of lemon water as it slows down and reduces carb uptake by hindering alpha-amylase's enzymatic activity as well.
And on top you got that nice bonus that Naringin is driving your liver more towards fat burning (instead of carbs). Lemons are insane!

The calories are no big deal. Calories don't put on fat, insulin does. This is a doctrine taught by Dr. Jason Fung. If lemon juice is limiting glucose absorption then your pancreas doesn't have to produce as much insulin. Lower insulin spells less fat storage. So it seems logical to me that lemon water before and with a meal should help with insulin resistance and thereby help reverse type 2 diabetes.
Although losing weight would be nice, I'm in it more for the reduction or elimination of insulin resistance.

I have a question that may seem nitpicky, but it’s actually important. In talking about the first study, you said that subjects were given 250 ml of water, black tea or lemon juice. Did you mean lemon water or lemon juice? 250 ml of lemon juice would be quite a lot to have to drink. I’m hoping you meant 250 ml of lemon water (I could do that), but if so, how much actual lemon juice is in that lemon water? 🤔 I’d like to try this, but I’m sure you can agree that it’s important to know how much lemon juice is needed to have this affect. Thanks Thomas❣️

Over the last 3 months I have, without fail, squeeze 1-2 quarters in my water anytime I drink water at a restaurant. My reasoning was I wanted vitamin C from citrus. I did some research, and found some interesting things. The current vitamin C supplements on the market are citric acid. Technically this is vitamin C according to the FDA, but it doesn’t function the same way as natural vitamin C. The second thing was I read about the disease scurvy. I remember my father saying that your teeth fall out if you have scurvy and a citrus fruit will correct this and prevent that disease. So I looked into it. Scurvy is far worse than I realized. It’s actually a connective tissue disease that breaks down the cell walls and causing all kinds of problems. So I am 42 years old, I lift 4-5 times a week pretty intensely, and do BJJ 4 times a week. My thought was I probably need healthy connective tissues for my joints, muscles, and ligaments. So that was why I was doing this. Now I am seeing further benefits from this habit. Thanks.

According to The Reams Biological Ionization Theory (RBTI), the lemon is the only food in the world that is anionic (an ion with a negative charge). All other foods are cationic (the ion has a positive charge.) This makes it extremely useful to health as it is the interaction between anions and cations that ultimately provides all cell energy. Accordingly you will not derive the same benefits from lime.

LOL! I drink iced tea with lemon*. Would have been interesting if that was part of the study, but I can deduce that it would be similar to lemon water.
Oddly enough, this might mean we don't want to have lemon or ACV before a all-lean-protein fasting recovery meal! Or, maybe it limits gluconeogenesis from protein? By the way, vitamin C and sugar are very close chemically. The vitamin C in lemon may be competing with the sugar for absorption.
PS: *That's in warm weather. In cold weather I drink all kinds of hot beverages, none with lemon, but I'm warming up (no pun intended) to hibiscus tea, both with black tea and cinnamon and straight (which is kinda hard without a sweetener.)
