    Right on the money! Especially about the show comments. There are always Jazz Police, but if you want to make living playing music, play the style of music you are hired to play to the best of style and ability. That is why you are a pro! Cheers!

    I’ve been doing this type of sax performing for a few years, this is SUCH solid advice. Wish I’d seen this video when I started rather than figuring out the tough way! Great video, I’ll be reminded of this when I’m playing!

    Faaantastic! I'll use this in my next gig! Now to the playing like Maceo video! I keep on getting recommendations from other DJs but i can easily improve and turn their kindness into acual skills!

    Seeing Lovely Laura and Ellie Sax playing live in Ibiza is what inspired me to learn the sax. Ellie Sax is SO good at complimenting her DJ's sound. So this video on playing sax to house music is right up my alley. Totally agree with your notes on noodling. Nothing worse than a sax player noodling over the melody or worse the vocals but it is so good to hear it build up to the natural peak in the music with that blast of altissimo.
    I love that one of your biggest hits is "Finally". It's one of my all time favourite house tunes.

    The main reason that I started learning saxophone was to be able playing with DJ one day. Such a divine match!
    Can you make more videos in this genre?
    Covering some parts such as, matching the rythems, which sax licks go well with those deep house musics.....
    Thank you that you share beautiness so gracefully.

    Great! I'd noticed that most dance music was minor. I thought you might mention choice of alto or tenor. I had expected you would prefer alto to cut through, but you didn't mention anything and did your demo on tenor. Do you always use tenor?

    • @GetYourSaxTogether
      @GetYourSaxTogether  Год назад +1

      Actually, typically I think I’d take alto to a gig tbh. Cuts through and has that extra punch.

    • @derek_williams
      @derek_williams Год назад +1

      @@GetYourSaxTogether Thanks. And a sax playing friend of mine also mentioned the pitch issue. When DJs alter the speed, the pitch changes and he points out that it's easier to manage on alto.

    Been there and done that. Nothing beats KISS! Pentatonics and rough squeals to the rescue. Love how you create a motif or riff or whatever everyone's calling it these days, and then play with it without creating some kind of noodled chaos. This stuff works with even cover bands that play for clubs or dances. Great demos. Perfect advice, as always.

    I loved this lesson. I first watched during Covid. A couple of weeks ago I had a gig with a couple of DJs and watched on the way to the gig. And they asked me to do it again tomorrow. Thanks Jamie. You and Scott Paddock and Jay Metcalf have improved my playing by 1000%. I’m a disability support worker who barely played his sax and now I play it every day.

      Best of luck with the open mic Sonja. I’ve played at a few, with other musicians and with backing tracks. Playing live with other people is one of the reasons I started in the first place. It’s good when strangers come up to you afterwards and say how much they enjoyed it. I’ve made some good friends at open mic nights.
