We live in West Michigan and Tim Gilliam is so helpful with answering any questions we have about our refinishing our Jarrah wood patio furniture. It’s not feasible for us to ship our furniture to California. He has walked us through the process and always gets right back to us with any questions we have. Thank you Tim and Wood Masters!!!!

As a paint contractor in Southern California I’m astonished you don’t have millions of followers. You are gifting people a wealth of knowledge. I know for a fact that this information is learned over years and years of blood, sweat, and tears. Thank you for the gift. You are a good person.

Thank you so much. As the kids say, "Real Recognize Real". You're right, this was learned over many years refinishing tens of thousands of pieces of furniture. You are a good person as well. Thanks for the positivity in this day and age.

Hey Tim I'm writing to you from Western Australia over 9,330 miles away. I'm embarrassed to say that I came across your video because I have not looked after my outdoor jarrah furniture. I was super impressed as to the amount of furniture your client owned and it's just going to become rarely and rarer (and become more valuable) as cutting down 400 year old hardwoods is now an environmental no no. I'm now going to restore my pieces as you have suggested and feel really good about it. I'd be interested to know what the psi and head/tip that you are using on your high pressure cleaner, mine is 1,400sqm. Thanks again

I live in Western Australia and grew up with Jarrah furniture and floorboards. What I saw on this video sure did transform old weathered outdoor furniture but I have serious doubts whether the furniture is actually Jarrah.
Jarrah has a beautiful natural variation of colour and grain direction. It is never perfectly straight and uniform.
The timber on this video was uniform in both colour and grain.
Secondly, weathered jarrah will soak up pretty much as much oil finish as you care to apply. I’ve never had to wipe off any excess.
With these two considerations, I think the timber in this video is more akin to an Indonesian timber named Merbau. It looks similar to Jarah in colour but is uniform and straight. It is also the preferred timber for use in outdoor furniture in Australia. It won’t soak up much oil either which is what was seen in this video.
Perhaps this furniture was supplied by less than experienced suppliers. Might be worth checking for future reference.

Hi Tim, I watched your video about restoring Jarrah furniture and wondered if you could answer a couple of questions please. I had already washed & jet washed my furniture and about to sand when I found your video, The next stage would be using 'wood brightener' but because I live in the UK I'm not sure what we call that, I have used Rustin's Wood Bleach before, which is a "two pack bleaching kit for wood based on stabilised Hydrogen Peroxide" and wondered if the wood brightener you use would be the same chemical? Also would any oil based wood sealer be suitable for the final coat? Thanks for the video it was really useful and has made me really happy that I am the owner of some Jenson Jarrah garden furniture which is looking sad but is still in solid condition despite being over 20 years old.

Dude, what the heck. I'm happy as hell your video's here. Been looking through a lot of B.S. that reroutes me to teak furniture. I just picked up a Jensen Jarrah table in some super rich part of Portland some guy was getting rid of for free on Craigslist. Wonder how much it goes for if teak is the only current option presently from that company? It's in the same exact model. It's just Jarrah. Your video's absolutely awesome by the way. It's just through and I appreciate it. Thank you very much. And I got 9 minutes left.

I'm in Boston area and considering some used Jarrah furniture, but would like to know what brightener and sealant I should get to refinish it. TIA. Appreciate the help.

Hey Leela, any brightener is fine. I am not sure exactly what brands they sell in your region but take a look at Benjamin Moore, Penofin, or Messmers brightener. Otherwise they sell granulated oxalic acid on Amazon.

I have this exact set and one of the chairs has a nasty crack in it making it unusable. Any recommendations for repairing a crack in Jarrah wood?

fabulous result - that penetrating oil , is it coloured? It appears to be coloured red, not clear.

Jarrah is from here in the South West of Western Australia. In the next couple of years commercial logging of native forests here will cease. Even now Jarrah is hard to get. So if you have it now hold on to it, you will never see it again. It's pronounced 'Ja-Rah'

Thank you so much for this helpful video! I bought the Jensen jarrah swing shown probably 25-30 years ago. It has been unprotected in the outside elements and has never been cleaned or refinished. What a mistake! Plus I live in humid south Arkansas. It was a mess and covered in lichen. I wish I had a 'before' picture. I have sanded and rinsed and waiting for the brightener and oil-based finish to arrive. I'm amazed how good it looks at this points and so glad I tacked this project. Unfortunately, the legs had gotten moved off their stone bases and there is a good bit of rot near the ends. I sanded as best I could but did not saw off the ends. Do you have any suggestions of what else I could do?

    • @teakmastertim
      @teakmastertim  2 года назад

      Hey Elizabeth,
You may want to have someone professionally cut the legs as long as it's not too much. Otherwise you may need to have new legs made.

What is wood brightener and what is its purpose? Our outdoor Jensen table was buckled. It's construction was so complicated it was impossible to repair. We had to fix battens underneath and nail the slats down. Not ideal. Wish I'd seen this first.!

I am in the process of refinishing my Jensen Jarrah chairs. I had originally used Daly's Seafin Teak oil in a redwood tone, and they were beautiful, but Daly's no longer makes a redwood color teak oil. I cannot get 100 percent of the red out through sanding, and if I use the clear/honey color teak oil I bought I'm going to have spots and blotches of the Seafin Redwood showing through, mostly in difficult to sand areas. I have used a cleaner/brightener and the Jarrah chairs are in good condition. My question is can I use a redwood stain on the chairs and then use the clear teak oil on top of that? Any suggestions?

Great video! I never knew to rinse and saturate the wood. SEALER - I have an old Jensen Jarrah wood set. The company used to make a sealer specifically for that salmon-colored wood. What SEALER AND COLOR (is it colored) DO YOU RECOMMEND? HELP!

      Hey Lisa
You can use any oil base penetrating sealer. Try Cabots Australian Timber Oil or Messmers UV Plus for Hardwoods.
