It's a shame that here in the US we can't get the new ST. It seems to be a wonderful platform for modification as this video shows. Thanks for a great effort and presentation.

    Great review. I’m jealous; no chance I can get one in the US. I love my 2013 Mk3 ST. My local Lincoln garage installed the Mountune MP-275 package and cat-back exhaust. The next year, the Quaife LSD and Ford Performance track springs. With a 91 (US) octane tune, I can drive most anywhere and find gas. It’s pulling 263/326, at the wheel, out of the L-block 2 liter. The school bus yellow paint is a bit much, but people do see you and that’s a good thing in traffic. I’m 73, been driving almost 60 years, best car I’ve ever owned.

Not any less fun to drive than my 1994 MX-5. Unfortunately, found out it had developed a big brown hole in one of the chassis beams. I'd like to get a new ST wagon at some point, but man if an old one in decent condition ever pops up again...

  • @NoahBB

    Modification is such an essential part of hot hatch culture, it's great to watch a video that touches on the subject and I'm surprised more channels don't pick up on this. The OEM who builds a hot hatch clearly agrees hot rodding an econobox is a good idea, but they have emissions regs and budgets to worry about. Why should the end user stop there and take the car as given? Although hot hatches aren't as popular in North America, they're very popular for modification as we often get more mild versions of them and the highest performance versions are exclusive to Europe. There is just something delightful about a relatively unassuming Golf (or similar), making 400+ BHP, rolling on Sport Cup 2s and terrorizing cars that cost 5x as much on a good back road.

      what intercooler u are talking about? There is no intercooler from Moutune for mk4 ST. Also, did you use the re-map or just hardware mods?

      @@alexandruzugravu1768 I got an airtec intercooler. I brought the Costa turbo back exhaust fitting that then put the m360 file into the car and put it on the dyno and just got over 300bhp all it had don’t was put the torque up we ran it 3 times and still didn’t get it any higher. I’ve had a few mates with the same issues unless someone can prove me wrong.

      @@n-e-r-d_fngamingfarrow992 The calibration is designed to use the hardware we specify. If you don't use that hardware, it's not optimising what it's expecting to see and you may well see a different result.
      Also, the make of the dyno and method of testing will make a difference - if you're seeing the torque but not the bhp, that's often a sign that the car is getting hot higher up the rev-range and pulling things back after it's made peak torque at lower revs (as we retain the OE safety parameters).
      You can switch it back and forth using the SMARTflash OBD and the app you installed it with, if you can feel a substantial difference, that's physics, regardless of what a dyno might say.

    Nice mods but as far as I know not warranty friendly so a big risk with a new car and a very important consideration

    This is an awesome car :D. It was a shame they axed plans for a new Focus RS , as it would of been a bonkers (and possibly less expensive) than the latest A45 or RS3). But wasn't it because of the costs of building it/adding a hybrid system to it? But anyway, this Mountune ST definitely fills the gap left by the RS :). I just hope Ford brings back the RS badge for future performance models (Fiesta RS, perhaps? 😃)

    • @mugenmark
      @mugenmark 2 года назад +3

      Stricter CO2 emissions so Ford did investigate fitting a hybrid but with the added weight it would have to produce well over 400bhp to even come close to delivering the same performance as the outgoing RS plus you’d end up with a 2 tonne so called performance car that would cost well over £40k. In short there just wasn’t the business case for it. Just a shame they didn’t do a Toyota with the GR Yaris and give everyone an AWD Fiesta RS that we all want.

      That isn't an unheard of number for an engine like that. The 4G63's in Evos can get those kinds of numbers easily, and this engine is 20 years newer has is a 2.3L rather than a 2.0L. I mean the current A45 AMG makes just over 400 horsepower from a 2.0L.
      Pretty reasonable for a tune.
