  • Don’t turn your nose up at this crossover. This race car tuned Puma ST will be the coolest car of the next generation, if history is any indication.
    The most successful WRC driver of all time, Sébastien Loeb, is back and this time in the Ford Puma ST. Which means this car could be added to a long line of legendary rally Fords.
    A crossover for rally? Well, it's Sébastien Loeb's current choice of rally car and seeing how his previous cars, such as the Citroen C4 (which we’ve driven here: • We Drove Sebastien Loe... ) have become legendary poster cars for fans of WRC, we can expect the Ford Puma ST to be same for the next generation.
    This particular Puma ST has been upgraded by Mountune, a long standing race car tuning company that have been behind some of the greatest fast Fords…EVER. We’re talking about the Ford Escort L730 ONO and the Ford Focus driven by none other than the late Colin McRae.
    Our hopes are high for this car despite it being a crossover.

    The WRC car doesn't even look like a crossover FFS, it looks like a 3-door hatchback. Almost as if Ford/Mountune know a 5-door crossover would be a poor base for a performance car. Funny that.

    • @pokest225
      @pokest225 2 года назад +21

      Wrc cars are no more based on street car platforms. Now they are tubular bespoke bodies, with street car "lookalike" exterior.
      The crossovers are indeed a poor base for wrc cars. The Puma wrc prototype (pre season test car) had fiesta exterior body with Puma front end.

    Problem with sporty crossovers is the high centre of gravity, so to make them "feel sporty" and not roll they need to make them overly stiff. A Fiesta with the lower CG would get away with a more compliant ride while maintaining the road holding.

    • @paullewis6858

      Suggested lowering the seat.... Maybe better to buy a Hatch...🤔

    • @bingoberra18
      @bingoberra18 2 года назад +3

      @@paullewis6858 Yes a hatch is better when it comes to handling and comfort. But some people want that high seated feeling and easy ingress/egress. The sporty SUVs are equally trash. They might be great on paper and expencive active suspensions and fat tires probably help alot. But the more you need to find workarounds for physics the more detached youll be from the road.

    • @dodgywheelsandropeywiring5697
      @dodgywheelsandropeywiring5697 2 года назад

      @@bingoberra18 I'm thinking the people who like these high driving positions and are actually buying new SUV's are women and families setting this trend and not drivers. The vast majority of women tend not to be that interested in cars even if they can drive, more how they think they look in them and/or how they believe others will view them. If the sports car is said to over compensate for a tiny middle leg then the Crossover/SUV is to compensate for low self esteem..... Or I could just be over thinking shit lol.

    • @Johanbeerden

    Mountune cars used to get full Ford manufacturer warranty. Now they don't. Surely this should have been detailed in this video; Given, the financial consequences could be ruinous (assuming it negatively impacts these car values or in the event of warranty work needed that Mountune may/may not honour) for anyone that gets the kit fitted to a new car within warranty, think wisely lads/ladies.

    Funny to read some of the sceptic reactions here about sporty crossovers/suv's. Reactions that I would have agreed with a while ago too. Also because I own a Volvo XC60 T8 and placed it on steroids, but still, that thing is quick and overal cornering is good, it ain't no sportscar.
    I've also had the chance driving Fiesta ST MK8.5 from a friend, it drives great, but is super harsh. My wife wanted a Fiesta, but we ended up with a Puma ST Ultimate as she loves the looks (Agree that that definately must be a girls-thing, she named the car "Stitch" for a reason I guess).
    But HELL THAT CAR DRIVES GOOD! Yes you are seated higher, yes there seems to be a littlebit more roll to the feel, compared to the FiST, but it is soooo much fun. I wish the FiST had the driving characteristics of the Puma ST except for the higher center of gravity. Even though Ford did a VERY good job to minimize that. They made the body stiffer, but the suspension is more comfortable then the FiST. The car is level in quick corners. The roll you feel, is not the car that rolls, but is you sitting higher, less connected to the chassis.
    Damn... I do enjoy my wife's car, if I had to choose between FiST or Puma ST, well... it would be the Puma now. 😅
