- What features does a €1550 Race Boom have?
Well, I met up with Top PWA racer Ludo Jossin to have a look at the NEW 'Lisa' race boom and what new features it's bringing to the market.
Lisa? Who is Lisa?
Well, 'Lisa' is a NEW brand which involves Top PWA Racer and the man behind 'Chopper fins' Ludo Jossin. More news at... lisawindsurfin...

Maybe also talk to Pieter Bijl and talk about his proboom.
So good to see some clever innovation in Windsurfing! As with eveything time will tell but it looks great and solid. I really like the grip idea and no holes. Nice small diameter, boom head looks solid. I hope the outhaul pulley system works/lasts as good as it looks. Congrats to all involved in the project.
Everything windsurf-related that I own combined isn't even €1550.. Long live second-hand stuff!

I’m close to $1500 and i have 29 sails, 10 booms, 8 boards, 8 masts... some are even pretty OK! God bless whoever bought them new.. maybe i get one of these puppies is 20 yrs

Very innovative ideas in this concept! The Ferrari in booms! Or Porsche? Yeah, it‘s a Porsche! Great job Ludo 👍
Truly cool to see that level of innovation across the boom ! Congrats Ludo and team!!
Brilliant, boom mast and fin is where i would speend my money. Seemed to also have an oversized no flex back tube, this is really nice to have. North platiunm race back ends are great but this looked even better with no holes. My drilled lock holes do get worn over time.
Nice to see top innovation; it looks like a great product.
Congratz on the boom design LISA windsurfing.
Noerstick - GO ADD IT
That is badass and he seems like a true gem of a mate.🤙🏻🤙🏻🤙🏻 Great video Big Ben and lovin the windsurfing world and lifestyle. Windsurfing is getting huge again like the 80s🤙🏻🤙🏻🤙🏻💪🏻
Great innovations there.
That twist-lock-pulley thing at the clew is a great idea. At 1550,- it is well above my price league though. Reminds me of the Proboom developed by Pieter Bijl and Niek Huisman 2 years ago. Hope he at least sells enough to get the development cost back.
Avanti Sails was the first ones to have that kind of outhaul block!

Oh that is very clever! Make windsurfing great again 🙂
If I need an 'excuse' for my wife to divorce me: a 1500 EUR boom will do the job!
Takes a rider with above average IQ to design a better boom. Good job! Sweet LISA! Shrink fit boom grip!! One failed attempt to regrip a FiberSpar WC boom ~25 years ago. Only issue. Just a freerider with occasional opportunity to enjoy wave time. Cost and the benefits of the boom far outweigh the needs. Great looking boom for the small segment of real serious racers with deep pockets not locked into boom endorsement contracts.
Ben, could you make a review of a Mistral CarboWing?
Great innovation...I’m sure it’s an awesome boom. But in my honest and humble opinion, way too expensive for the average allday or every other day windsurfer. I’d never spend that much money just for a few new gimmicks...rather take my kids snowboarding a week or spend that money on a two week windsurfing trip.....but that’s just me and my personal view 😊🤙🏻
How long is the warranty for ?
2- 3 years would be nice for that price.
You mean 20-30 years
Great boom! I want one. How much is it for 4.7 to 8.0 high aspect race slalom foiling sails?
Nailed it!
Great new features!
I notice there is no protection on the outside of the boom tail end. Do you plan to add some protection there for people who rig up on concrete/tarmac? Cheer, Nick.
Amazing , looks well thought out
Excellent innovations!
Nice concepts, although not affordable for the average rider. The outhaul holes can get sand, small stones, etc inside, then it will be difficult to clean the interior, someone needs to keep an eye about this, as it can also block the rope's sliding, etc, or rope forces to dirt could cause invisible damage to carbon if ignored?
Hi Ben. I'm curious to know what's the average speed the pwa slalom pros are traveling in those events? Say in choppy open sea conditions. Can u do a clip on that?
Hi mate.. depends how choppy? But between 32-35.. maybe peaking sometimes higher 👍🏻
@@WindsurfingTV thanks ben👍always wondering how fast can we do slalom in open sea... Instead of those crazy 100km/hr in the dessert
Is re-grip available as a spare part for "any" boom?
Yes.. i'm pretty sure thats what Ludo told me.
I can not find any weight data or length data except small, medium and large !
Amazing boom! quite expensive for the average sailor tho like everything new in windsurfing.
I hope I don't have to keep calling out the sexist comments. We need to do better!
?
Someone getting uperty about the "mans islet" I would assume
@@athertones1775 oh ok..
Avanti sails has the same pulley system. Who invented it?
Avanti
is it EXACTLY the same? If not, it is an irellevant comment.
Just saw a video of the Avanti one and it is different from the LISA one as it is from the Chinook one that has been around forever. Chinook is probably a deveeopment of something else again. 'Invented' is a very overused word. :-)
@@tandemwind not true...
the Avanti is completely different from the Chinook and the LIZA works exactly like the Avanti. It sits on the boom, not the sail and has a quick lock system to remove it.
@@tandemwind yes. It is exactly the same system. The pulley remains at the boom.
And it's definitively not you who declares a comment as relevant or irrelevant 🤨
All these features are very clever, great job. But like other people mentionned, I'm afraid windsurfing, as a so called niche, is now focusing on "not impacted by the crisis" customers. 1500 booms, 2600 boards, 1200/1500 sails... To go on a lake with the dog on sundays, come on. Maybe not the right direction to redemocratize our sport. On another hand, it's certainly the only way for brands to keep on going. Bad times we live in, but great piece of gear anyway.
Well other carbon slalom booms cost also€1000 and i guess some of them are produced overseas in Asia. So seeing from that point of view, a boom packed with innovations made in Spain for 50% higher price sound reasonable, also if that is out of the range of what i would spend
Good boom, but too expensive.
Great boom but 1550 euro? Guess not for the amateur.
Copy cats... avanti was first with their quick loc pulley
This is different from Avanti's design which is different from Chinooks design, which is different from the rivited in pulleys on may sails before that. Whom is copying whom? 'Cop'y and 'Invented' are very overused words. This is as orignal as any on these.
@@tandemwind concept is definitely the same.
@@dennisboisen Only the part where they are two pulleys attached to the boom (done before) and they are quick detachable - in a different way. Even the chinook could be detached pretty quickly and also had a mechanism to help retain the rope in it (although not as effectively). It is just another development of the same basic idea, a good one at that.
@@tandemwind pulley stays with the boom,
Pulley tool less attaches to the boom.
Those are new concepts and infringement by any patent law
@@dennisboisen Rubbish. Prior art! No patent possible for 'Concept' Only for design, and only if it is unique new idea, which it most certainly is not. Do you claim to have invented it? Why so invested in it?
I will get about 10 New Booms out of Aluminium and have the chance to mount every season a new one ??? This price is not comparing to the use what a boom should do ! Only guiding your hands and fixing the sail ! The only guy who need this boom will be the seller - to get rich 😄👍
