It’s time to say ‚Thank you’. I decided to quit my position at Starboard. A little more than two years ago I was offered to lead the way for and manage a brand that is known to lead innovation in my favorite sport in the world, windsurfing. For me it still is crazy to believe that a then 25-year-old, without finished university degree is trusted with with such responsibility.
Perhaps this is part of the innovative approach of Svein Rasmussen, who has believed in my abilities, trusted in my leadership, shared all his knowledge and experience with me, and I have therefore I have seen as one of my mentors over the last two years. Thank you, Svein. Thank you for everyone I had the pleasure to work with over the last two years - it’s definitely been a ride.
A ride that I didn’t expect. It wasn’t in the path I set out for myself as a professional windsurfer, but it was an opportunity I didn’t want to miss and am happy to have taken.
After two years of successfully juggling the management of @starboardwindsurfing, windsurf on a world class level, make the best possible windsurfing content for the biggest windsurfing community on RUclips, becoming a co-owner of @surfcenter_com and joining this incredible team, developing new products for @surlasession, it was time to reset my focus.
It’s been beyond demanding and I felt like it was time for a step up in either of my endeavors.
Going two years back in time, I felt like I had some unfinished business in racing. It’s what I started this journey for and to this day I still can’t stand loosing a race 😄.
So, to end this one on a positive note: I’m happy to be able to reset my focus to competitions while of course bringing the most entertaining and informative content for you guys and girls.
    Windsurfing forever. ⚡🤘

Thank you, I got in to windsurfing only 3,5 years ago and it saved my life and marriage ( we are both doing it), I literally changed my life to run around windsurfing, left London for coast, build my own camper/adventure van. During covid it was a bliss to watch your videos - one advise, if something affects you in negative way move away from it, don't look back enjoy life. All the best from UK and we will pop in to your shop in the future. RAD

What a honest video, be yourself, listen to your heart, body and brain
Do what you like whatever it is and if you don'tike it anymore, learn why that is, whats the reason, in the end stop that, cause it causes negative energy and thats not what you want.
Thnx for sharing, talking about yourself and feelings, that is key in life, not only about the fun stuff, but also the sad things that happens in everybodies life's and make your way to deal with that, you will become a better version of yourself, 100%, talk about it and heal, express your emotions, we all have that, thats not what your learn at school, you have to find it buy by yourself
Loved the surf content you made, its not gone, still here on RUclips
Good luck on your journey in life on this beautifull blue planet XXX❤

In this day and age, where a lot of young people have so many possibilities in theory, it is very difficult to focus. Go, where you want to go, is a very good advice for someone, who has choices. Why do you have choices. Well: Because you got a certain skillset through your genes, you probably had a sheltered upbringing, a good education and some support in developing your ideas in sports and life. Someone like you can get anywhere. And the group of professionals, that now spring up everywhere, who call themself coaches, they live of the money, of those poor chaps, who try to live the same dream, yet have not the skillset you have. Same thing, different circumstances, different outcome.
    Good luck!

Good man Nico, those who strive to do great things will often become overloaded, and it's hard to see it coming when you are in full gas mode - as a GP I spoke to many very successful people hitting a wall, and the depression is a reaction to your feeling of disappointment at not achieving what you think you can do, even when it is not possible - life is about learning, you will be so much wiser for the pain you have been feeling, and will be stronger in future - it's all part of getting older, and you have shown maturity to recognise that change is the solution - we can't please everyone all of the time!!
I know you will be back and have always enjoyed all your videos, especially on the dark Northern winter nights, watching you guys doing daft things on the water is always a great lift - also that SURLA cafe bar in Tarifa is awesome, so thanks for the steer on that!!

Nico, i am texting you in german rn for it to be more lovely. I burnout-ed myself in the beginning of ‘22 around the same time as you did. Since then i am feeling the same itch to do more than i can every single day. But that itch will get better, im telling you, every single day. At the same time that feeling is way better than the depressive episodes you feel while being overworked. When you arrived at the first part, you can still optimize for more. With that you can get awfully close to where you are rn in case of woking. Dont let things get on top of you, what you did was a smart decision.👍🏼
