I've literally discovered bloc party yesterday, first song was helicopter. I've been listening to their songs and people saying their new stuff ain't bloc party. They don't seem like a band who cares what people think about them.
I think they rock at everything so far, if they change direction again I can't wait what they'll come out with next.
Why does every new Bloc Party song sound way better at 1.25 speed?

+psicotik There are lots of groups with a sound that changed over the years. Most people here have no problem with that. It's just the fact that this is just a boring middle of the road rock song. And the Love Within has an ugly obnoxious synth. I don't care that Bloc Party changes. I love evolving bands. These are just bad songs.

I'm a huge Bloc Party fan, but I think both of these singles have been frustrating in very different ways. "The Love Within" has too much edge, while this doesn't have enough. There is a nice country-esque guitar after the chorus which is lovely, but I think the common denominator for the issues so far is the drumming. It's really lacking Matt Tong's creative flare and it's painfully obvious. Also, some real howlers lyrically in this song (not that we haven't seen that before). A plastic bag stuck to a tree? Really Kele? Who do you think you are, Katy Perry?
All jokes aside, I'm still excited for the new album and both songs have grown on me, but I just don't see how Bloc Party will attract new fans with these songs.
"It's not the old Bloc Party anymore". Because truly great artists keep doing the same thing over and over again without ever trying to be new or creative.
yeah, i dont like hymns as much as any other studio album, but i prefer reinvention to stagnation.

Agreed. Bloc party used to blow me away everytime I listened to them and saw them live. I'd still see them live again but this new music is too mellow and takes a few listens to it to get into for me.

They are missing the punch and energy which came with all of their singles before this. However bands develop and change and that something fans will have to accept. I mean another example of change is bring me the horizons 'that's the spirit' completely different to their previous work and as a fan from count your blessings i love it. im sure this album will be just as awesome as silent alarm even if it doesn't sound similar.
They should have said the whole album was supposed to be played on X1.25 speed for it to sound...proper...

I don't want to be another voice in a sea of people complaining, especially since Bloc Party has always been my favorite band since I was much, much younger.. But this is dissapointing. I know I should keep an open mind and accept the band doing what they like, even if it's half the members... But in a world of groups trying so hard to be like the new 'popular' groups and artists, I had so much hope Bloc Party would find themselves again. I can't help but crave that old sound that captured me and still has for so many years. I just wish it had even some hints of what they were, but it's just so.. Different. Foreign. It doesn't sound like Bloc Party anymore. I really wish they'd just change the band name -- The label doesn't fit anymore. I'd probably like the song too, if I wasn't expecting it to be.. Well, to be what you'd expect from Bloc Party. If you enjoy it, more power to you. I just think this will be the first album from them I'm not going to buy.

iv been a fan of Bloc Party for many years and the night i saw them live was by far the best night of my life.......but i think they have lost their sound. call it growth or change but all i really want is another album like Silent Alarm. Ill hold judgement on this one until i hear the entire thing.

Big bloc party fan here. First time I listen to the song and it's ok but a bit boring to be easy. It sounds like tons of other songs and not really special or original. still it's a decent song at best and I can't really say it's bad.......

What? Are they trying to make lullaby songs now? I don't like to say it, but this is boring. Plain and simple. No intricate drum-play, the tempo needs a kick up (1.25 is a tad too fast, but still sounds way better, haha), and even Kele sounds bored singing it! Dammit this pains me, but they can do whatever they want to do - Papa is not angry, he is disappointed :(

that slide guitar sound doesnt fit them at all. they used it on the four song coliseum, and it sounded out of place there too. that sound reminds me of the breaking bad intro song everytime i hear it.
