The video captures the British comprehensive secondary school experience. Feels like forever when you’re going through it but, 14 years since I took my GCSEs, I can’t believe how quickly it went
I'm 55 and this ad campaign has me in tears. Seeing these children with their highs and lows, joys and pains, laughter and tears, brings me back to my youth, and reminds me to be more caring and forgiving of the children of today, because we were just like them once 🥲
It's so rare to see positive representations of British secondary school children in the media - I'm struggling to think of another one, what an fantastic video, timeless beautiful song - just perfect! Thank you!!
Watching this video for the first time and fr the nostalgia tho ❤ almost makes me miss it lol I was just finishing high school when this song came out originally. It Really is a timeless song
Time really flies . We all lived similar experiences , all over the world , in any country , this is like a fcking hymn to youth , all of our old glories , made into a song .
Timeless ♥ For the first half of the video, I was wishing that these were the memories I had of school. I'm glad they showed some of the anxieties, insecurities and hurtfulness. Much love to Bloc Party and all the kids out there! Don't let anyone tell you these are the best days of your life.
I figured it out. The drums are the relentless march of life, the physical permanence our every waking moment ties us to. The guitars are introspection, the malleable and semi permanent mental models we develop to make sense of and predict life. The vocals are our transient feelings of variously sadness, wishes for another chance, our time over again to make different decisions, joy. And ultimately exhilaration at "figuring it out" - our appreciation and integration of all of these elements; body, mind and spirit. A fantastic video for the most beautiful song. Love to all ❤
@@GIChowIt somehow makes sense! The part at 2:05 is without drums and feels like you’re flying above the ground, as if your mind is wandering away from it all after a major setback in life, with the angelic vocals, leading back to the drum bringing you back to the real world. Beautiful
Jesus! All this time and the feels one gets when listening to the song never leaves! That day is tattooed in my memory, and when my memory fades, it will always be there. Bloc Party to me is what Smashing Pumpkins was to my older brother.

I used to listen to Bloc Party when I was in highschool and I was a teenager. 18 years later I'm watching this video and crying my heart out. Thank you for everything, BP.
I feel you, I was 14 when this album came out and 15 when I discovered it and it's stayed with me ever since. I hold it very close to my heart. This band inspired me to write music and have been doing so ever since.
Beautiful song and video. My daughter is about to be a teenager and I'm filled with so much dread about it, but at the same time I realize that I have to let go a little bit, let her experience things both good and bad. But you want to protect your kids from heartache, from feeling bad. But ultimately you can't, and probably shouldn't. There are valuable lessons even in the tough parts of growing up.
I know how you feel, I had too,..tough, but we had the times of our lives,.. time to let them I guess,..if you have done a good job as a parent, no need to worry
Oh my god. I love this song, I've loved this song for 18 years now. This video adds so much more meaning and relevence to the song. It brings it into the modern world whilst also reminding me of the feelings and growing pains I had when the song was first released. Thank you Bloc Party.
33 years old now and this was my favourite band and my favourite song for some good years. Around end of high school and beginning of college this was my jam.
1:13 always gets me. The younger ones smiling with their friends and then the older student sat alone. I remember my last year of secondary school. I didn't like the place much, but that loneliness sticks to you. Silent alarm is a brill album, and I adore this video for it. I'm glad it's coming back 🎉
Block Party's masterpiece colors the daily lives of today's young people who live in the age of cell phones and social media. It's diverse, fresh, lively, cruel, and beautiful. The truly heartmoving and wonderful song and video.
00:09 the restless tapping of feet, not able to sleep at night, not able to concentrate in school, incapable of sitting still to do homework. I'm in my 50's now and have realised that, these days, I would be diagnosed with ADHD and given meds. Regardless, I'm glad I didn't get medicated because my life wouldn't have been half as interesting with its ups and downs, joys and traumas.
The first time I heard the song, my son was 16 years old. Next year he will be 30. Time is ticking. Hold your son in your arms and tell him how much you love him.
I used to be so afraid of the world, terrified to be who i was, and then i heard a Bloc Party song one day and it was as if a switched flicked on. Finally, i didn’t care who saw me, what they would say, because it'll be okay. Whatever you feel will pass. Whatever is stressing you out is temporary. That's how significant this song is, this band. They're life changing artists and there's so much beauty in the world. Run free, breathe, feel the sun, don't take any of this for granted. Will you ever get to see it again?
One of my favourite bands from the passed 20 years has shown us that the invention of cellphones and the internet have ruined the "way things were". If I didn't have to send emails in the morning for work, my phone would be in the lake. I truly love Bloc Party and loathe the internet, so this nostalgic video is right up my alley. I firmly believe that childhood's and childhood innocence are things of the past due to technology, which fucking sucks.
Wouldn't it be fantastic to go back to our school days just to see how great they really were with what we know now that growing up is not what we expected it to be.

As someone who has been a fan of bloc party from day one, this is incredible. I have a 13 year old son and, it's hard to articulate but I see my son living his life but to my soundtrack growing up. Hard to explain but I fucking love it!
