Can a Canon Pro 1000 go longer than 60 hours without a cleaning cycle?

  • An example of printing a nozzle check and getting verification that none of the nozzles are clogged prior to printing a photograph may allow the Canon Pro 1000 to go longer than 60 hours between cleanings. This example shows how the printer sat idle over 100 hours without printing or cleaning.

OK! Just so you all know. The Pro-1000 does not go by a strict hourly schedule. It will trigger a cleaning cycle whenever it determines it needs one. You did a nozzle check so it ran a pre print agitation and cleaning and then it did the nozzle check. Printing an immediate print afterward of course will not trigger a cleaning cycle. That is normal. Maybe I'll talk about this on this Sunday's Live Stream as there is still some confusion between PRO-1000 owners and other models.

Please do, I keep printing an image every 60 hours so it doesn't have to run a cleaning cycle.

My Canon prograf 1000 goes for weeks without the heads having to be cleaned, even months. Best thing to do is print something every two weeks to a month, not only will it keep your heads clean, but won't waste ink which goes into the Canon MC-20 printer maintenance cartridge. No need to do a mini cleaning before printing.

Hi! Thanks for the interesting video. I was thinking of buying this printer but I heard that for non-intensive use (hobby), the canon Pro-1000 would waste up to 50% of the ink with expensive periodical cleaning cycles.
Now that you've had it for a while what do you think of this trick you've shown?

Would printing once a week significantly avoid ink waste?
Thanks in advance for your reply

I have a pro2000 as well. I much prefer the pro2000. It is faster and the ink volumes are more economical. I do print a limited amount on the pro1000 but it mostly stays off until needed. I then batch the prints. It is nice when it does print but it is expensive to use.

Hi Rickey, the noise that you mentioned at 2 mins is the cleaning cycle you also have a mini clean before every print it just doesn't say doing a cleaning cycle on the display panel. Check out Jose Rodriguez RUclips site loads of canon pro 1000 question and answers there. By the way a mini cleaning cycle was done before it started printing the small photo, they cannot be avoided 😩.

612morrison I have enjoyed Jose’s work. This video was to talk about skipping the large cleaning cycle that happens with the printer sitting idle. The printing behavior is different if you run the check as I showed. I would love to see if others’ printers did the same.

@@rickeycarter I've just ran a nozzle check literally it's just finished, after my pro 1000 sitting idle for approximately 80 hours and a test print immediately afterwards and mine done the extra same as things that yours did. I'm running with the new firmware update 3.010 I don't know if this has any bearing on what happens compared to someone running on the older settings. I also change the maintenance cartridge before I printed last and there is ink in it and I haven't enabled a cleaning cycle myself infact I haven't ever asked the printer to do a cleaning cycle and there has never been any messages saying it is doing a cleaning cycle just the agitation of the ink message.

A small amount of priming and cleaning probably is unavoidable. When I didn’t try the trick, the printer seemed to launch into a much longer cleaning cycle. Maybe it is just a placebo effect.
