I have an extremely intensive (100, 11x14 prints/day) printing program every weekend for 3 months of the year. Then I have virtually ZERO until the same time the next year. So assuming I print a "maintenance print" every month during the dead time, will the printer continue to do maintenance based on hours, or will it sit ? There must be some data from Canon indicating what drives the printer cleaning process. If not....how do I optimize this unit for my schedule ?? Can I simply unplug the machine until I want to do a "maintenance print" ???

Hi! Thanks for the interesting video. I was thinking of buying this printer but I heard that for non-intensive use (hobby), the canon Pro-1000 would waste up to 50% of the ink with expensive periodical cleaning cycles. Now that you've had it for a while what do you think of this trick you've shown? Would printing once a week significantly avoid ink waste? Thanks in advance for your reply

It's on the valve! You have to fix it to the rim with a nut. It was the same with me.

OK! Just so you all know. The Pro-1000 does not go by a strict hourly schedule. It will trigger a cleaning cycle whenever it determines it needs one. You did a nozzle check so it ran a pre print agitation and cleaning and then it did the nozzle check. Printing an immediate print afterward of course will not trigger a cleaning cycle. That is normal. Maybe I'll talk about this on this Sunday's Live Stream as there is still some confusion between PRO-1000 owners and other models.

My Canon prograf 1000 goes for weeks without the heads having to be cleaned, even months. Best thing to do is print something every two weeks to a month, not only will it keep your heads clean, but won't waste ink which goes into the Canon MC-20 printer maintenance cartridge. No need to do a mini cleaning before printing.
