@Glockcrazy19, It really is fun. I enjoy ARs and think they are pretty interesting ( even cool!), but once you fire an M1-A, or maybe any military rifle that fires the 7.62X51 cartridge, the 5.56 never has quite the same thrill.

Hickok, I love you man! Just remember, never complain about the heat down there in your great free state. I'm stuck in New York where my SOCOM 16 can't have a muzzle break (or anything on the end there - no matter its name) and it can only have 10 round magazines. And if one were to have an "assault rifle" before the S.A.F.E Act came into law, you have to register it!!! As long as I'm committed to this state as a husband, father, and farmer, I've committed myself to warning the rest of the country that what happens to New York can theoretically happen anywhere in our country. Stand and fight folks. Be on guard! Don't trust your run-of-the-mill Republican!!!!! I love your channel Hickok45!

    • @danrugbyman
      @danrugbyman 8 лет назад +3

Haa No! Your missing the point - or I wasn't clear. What I meant is that we have to watch out for the progressive (or moderate) republicans who are just as damaging, if not more so than any democrat, since they fool so many real conservatives. Oddly enough I wrote that so long ago that I still had hope for our country but now a bigger change is needed and its not gonna be just by an election. The birth pangs of our country getting back to what it was founded to be will be much worse. So HEY - I'm glad I have my M1A!!! haaha

Hickok, Just inherited a M1A Scout from my father in law and am sorting out the loads for the rifle. Interesting enough when I measured the fps of the 18" versus the same same round in a 24" bolt action rifle, the difference in fps was close to 200 fps. You certainly lose fps with the shorter barrel.
I also noticed that you had some difficulties shooting out at distance. It's been quite a challenge for me to get a good group with the M1A scout due to the heavy trigger pull and trying to keep the rifle steady. Yes, I need to improve my trigger control but it is a bit of a challenge. Was able to get a 1 MOA group at 100 yards with the rifle shooting it off a bench.
As you said, the look and style of the rifle is outstanding. Yes, life is good! Keep em flying down range! :)

It's very interesting to see the difference between the .308 (in this video) and the .223 (in the M4 chapter 2) in how long it takes to destroy a cinder block.

This is the very first time that I've written any RUclips people. I've watched A LOT of your videos and I enjoy every single one of them even it's a striker fired pistol . I find myself consulting your videos when I'm first starting my quest to buy another firearm we seem to both like and have the same views so it makes selecting which firearm to add to my collection. I truly thank you for taking time out of your day to do a pretty good evaluation of the firearm in addition You seem to be really enjoying doing each video. S

The SOCOM 16 is Springfield Armory's shortened model of the M-1a with a polymer stock and a piece of rail on the top.
The M1-a is the semi automatic version of the military spec full auto (select fire) m-14. And the M1-a is to distinguish it from the M-1 Garand, which all of the other guns mentioned are based on.

Can you shoot steel case ammo with this rifle. I'm leaning to get one, but hate to spend my retirement money on 308 brass case. Steel case looks so much cheaper to shoot. 5 dollars a box is better than 15 dollars for 20 rounds.

As a SOCOM-16 owner and advocate myself,...This was a great video. Just like the Food Channel,...the food you see looks Great. But thru your TV screen you cant smell it, or taste it. Same with the SOCOM-16. You have to actually shoot the thing and then own it. Once you own it--youll never give it away. This rifle is, Addictive. The smoothest shooting,..and Lowest-recoiling rifle I own. For dramatic effect, Winchester white box for muzzle-Flash in Low Light conditions:) Awesome Vid H-45!

It's easier for someone who has really never shot a rifle before to adapt to the 5.56, the M16 is lighter, you can carry many more rounds, and in Urban conflict and open conflict the 5.56 is still deadly at 300 yards, plus the cost to mass produce the M16 is cheaper then the M14... The Military is still heavily using M14. The Problem I see the military has with the M14 is Cost, Weight, and round capability.

@PureBlindMan SEAL snipers have used the gun since day 1, the army does use it for their designated marksmen, since recently in iraq engagements have taken place at shorter ranges, so super accurate bolt actions became unwieldy. in fact my brother will be a designated marksman with this weapon in the EBR version if he can score well in the rifle marksmanship test later in the year.

Two petitions running now at the white house website. One is to repeal the Hughes amendment, the other to reopen the full auto firearms registry. It only takes a second to sign. If successful, this would allow more people access to fully automatic weapons. People wouldn't be limited to spending thousands of dollars on 30+ year old guns if they want to enjoy a select fire weapon.
We need far more signatures quickly. I posted links in a comment on Hickok's profile if you can't find them

That thing is sweet. 308 is a great round but yea it can be rather pricy when shooting like that. I think thats why I like my PSL so much in 7.62x54R

I would love to see a video on how to shoot the Socom 16 iron sights. I'm having a real hard time using the sights because of that thick post. I'm sure many people are in the same boat just need advice from an experienced person.

Looks like you're getting enjoyment popping that rifle... It looks like it's doing the damn thing.
