Oh, I didn't even know that people hated her

    • @imyouyoureme1533
      @imyouyoureme1533 5 лет назад +66

no one really "hates" her.. they just hate the fact that she has never mentioned her fathers connections. Jon Cohen is Co-CEO of Cornerstone marketing/advertising agency; and Jon Cohen is co-founder of the Fader (her label).
Here is a quote from Jon talking about his close friend (Clairo's Dad), Geoff Cotrill - and Geoff's relation to music/converse advertising.
"“Geoff deserves a lot of credit for creating incredible inroads in the way a brand engages music,” says Jon Cohen, co-CEO of Cornerstone Promotions, who has worked with Cottrill for more than 10 years. “Most brands engage in licensing, but Converse has become a pioneer. They’ve become a real distribution platform for musicians to get their music out there, and it’s been a real boon to the Converse consumer.”

She has a huge amount of hate! I used to dislike her as well!! So im speaking from experience. I like her now. But most people hate her cause they either believe that she is an industry plant and maybe others hate her for not bringing anything original to the "table". Thats my guess coming from someone that USED to dislike her! :)

Theres a weird thing that happens today in media e.t.c of the “underdog” story. Society thinks using your connections to get your art or yourself out there is a bad thing. Industry plant or not if what your presenting, wether your music, photography e.t.c, isnt good or atleast different then no one will care. The hate for people like clairo and billie elish comes from jealousy. I do believe them being female and having a female audience makes more trolls attack them aswell.

I'm not being dramatic when I say that everyone on earth seems to somehow tactically disregard the true value of an Artist's vocal quality. Being a producer myself, I feel a duty to remind everyone just how significant it is. think bon-iver, The weeknd, Amy winehouse, Jorja Smith. Yes production and mix is important too (I personally champion both), but nothing is greater than a world class vocal. Clairo Happens to have a world class vocal, and, I cannot stress this enough, IS WHY WE ARE EVEN TALKING ABOUT HER AT ALL RATHER THAN THE 900,000 OTHER PEOPLE WHO WE ARE CURRENTLY NOT. I know it doesn't make for a long video, but honestly try to prove me wrong.

clairo is NOT an industry plant. she didn't come out of nowhere just to make money for a label, which is what an industry plant is. if you look on her soundcloud she has tracks dating back to 2013 that she made by herself when she was like 14-15 years old and not even signed, before she was discovered and signed and all that. people need to check their facts before speaking.

Thanks for knocking down the nonsensical Internet comments that Clairo (Claire Cottrill) is an "industry plant". I've seen people say that about Billie Eilish too. Clairo is a girl who started on bandcamp, posted videos on Facebook with a family VCR tape camera cabled up to her computer, and was putting her music on soundcloud all the way through high school. The simple story (you said it) is that she posted her "Pretty Girl" on RUclips and it blew up. I'm glad to see her moving into the world of produced and commercial indi music. Honestly, though, I still have an affinity for bedroom pop.

Even tho I like clairo's music, I feel like criticism towards her is always discredited as ''hate'' and her fanbase is kind triggered everytime someone says anything midly negative about her. Like everytime I say that her music is just okay, and immunity is just a decent album, her fans just enter in denial and can't argue why they think otherwise. Good video tho, at least someone can explain why they like her and isn't just a twitter stan calling her ''queen'' over evrything she does

I reakky enjoy her music because I discovered it during a time I was struggling a bit mentally, and her voice really helped calm me down when I'm struggling. That was before Immunity came out. I do recognize that her early stuff is a bit generic, but I think that Immunity features a developed voice. So basically why I like her is because her music has a lot of emotional meaning for me, and because she is unique as an artist. She is also everything that I hope to be as a person, a young succesful artist with a loyal platform.

i agree with you just because clairo's family has a business doesnt mean anything. i believe she started what she loves from solo interactions. im one of those people who arent blinded from stupidity and with her all the way. i believe she has a goal set for herself and people decided THEMSELVES that they FAKILY liked her and decided to leave but thats what she has, is strength. of course people left but unlike them the ones who understood stayed and thats good cause there are a bunch of snakes out there and being with people who arent is a blessing. keep going strong and blurr out those who be fakin. people were being fake she didnt give in, she kept and keeps going strong thats what being original is. and i stand with clario @Clairo

Look, I support Clairo. I've bought her music and still check when she makes new stuff. But it isn't 'dense' to put 1+1 together to equal 2... and there is no 'vagueness' about the information.
A small search of Jon and Geoffs connections will yield an easy road to follow as a *possibility* (the ones you choose to ignore).
“Geoff deserves a lot of credit for creating incredible inroads in the way a brand engages music,” says Jon Cohen, co-CEO of Cornerstone Promotions, who has worked with Cottrill for more than 10 years. “Most brands engage in licensing, but Converse has become a pioneer. They’ve become a real distribution platform for musicians to get their music out there, and it’s been a real boon to the Converse consumer.”
you know enough about Jon Cohen. and as easily as you can claim it was the algorithm, another can claim it was bought views (anyone can buy views) or a push from a very successful marketing pioneer. ..
It is dense and thick-headed for you to defend something because you wish to ignore the possibilities and clear parallels..
Again, I support her.. but I'm not an idiot. you do not have to be, either. it doesn't really matter that much - but you seem to be dead-set on making it matter.

When bags came out I was a bit disappointed she had abandoned the lo-fi production style but being a bisexual teen when I actually listened to it I was like "Is that a Call me by Your Name reference? No it couldn't be," and then in the Genius interview she said it was and that it was a gay song and I was like "YES!" and I love her to this day.
