  • The age old debate on this channel of braids or twists...
    While braids are what I did last year, twists are easier and faster for me going back into this hair growth journey. I tried to do twists at the beginning of the year but my hair was so short and so damaged that I was forced to put rubber bands at the end of them and they looked awful!
    My hair length has since about doubled in overall growth. So I started my 2022 hair growth challenge out with about neck length or collarbone length hair and am now ending the year with bra strap length hair when stretched. I'd say that's quite some growth!!
    What are you going to be doing to grow your hair out this year? Twists or Braids?

    Quick Correction:
    I instead decided to delete the Patreon and create just a Discord Server instead! I still will go live on SATURDAYS for my wash day where we can chill out and spend some time together!

    Twists; less time and easier take-down.

  • @Veronicao

    Mini braids because they last longer, easier to wash, condition, and don’t unravel

    • @SimplyJuliaLauren
      @SimplyJuliaLauren  Год назад +1

      They do last much longer than twists ever could... How do you think they're easier to wash?

    • @Veronicao
      @Veronicao Год назад +1

      @@SimplyJuliaLauren I think for me I struggle with my twists unraveling and that makes it easier for me because I don’t have to constantly have to retwist. I know the time to put in and take out mini braids are tedious but I try to go for medium braids.

    For me its Braid at the root, down an ich or two, then twist. Or all braids

    • @SimplyJuliaLauren
      @SimplyJuliaLauren  Год назад +2

      Oh that's a good idea! I used to do braids down to the last inch or so and then twist

      @SimplyJuliaLauren yea that's how my hair is now. My roots get tangled, so braiding at the root helps.

    Braids for me because it keeps my hair stretched which works for me and I don't really do them small more like medium sized so it is easier to take down.Also I can wash them on wash day.

    I’m braiding my hair and twist the last inch or so of my ends. I find that braids keep my hair really well stretched which is helpful when I detangle since I finger detangle my hair when it’s dry.

    • @SimplyJuliaLauren
      @SimplyJuliaLauren  Год назад +2

      Agreed: braids are much better for stretching out hair as opposed to twists.

    I did a protective style challenge with another group from October 22 to April 23. I like both styles, its just a matter of preference, time, etc. I chose the plaits because they stretched more. I even washed and conditioned in them several times. End of story, my hair did grow about 3 1/2 inches. Yours may grow faster because I am 66, when you are younger your hair will grow much faster as long as you are eating right, drinking water, etc. Your health matters and if you are no on medications that could affect the growth. God Bless !

      I currently have plaits for the same reason actually lol

    Definitely starting this challenge this December. I've been following you for a while and I love your modified version of Indigenous Strandz challenge. I cannot wait to start. I'll be using twist for this challenge.....I am kind of insecure about my length right now so I'll be using headwraps and scarfs.

    Personally prefer braids as twists can lock up.

      Ah, I've heard some do have that problem. I think it might depend on hair type and frequency of redoing them. I personally have never had that problem thankfully but I can only imagine the frustration for those who go through it.

    I’ll be doing both. They both have their pros and cons, but I mostly just like variety and it’ll give me a chance to experiment w different sizing and styling for my braids and twists. As long as I’m keeping a consistent wash and moisturizing routine it should be fine

    Did you experience just as much growth with the plaits as you did with the twists?

    • @SimplyJuliaLauren
      @SimplyJuliaLauren  Год назад +2

      I want to say yes and no.
      I did experience major growth with plaits, but I’ve never had them in as long as my twists so idk how much longer it would’ve been.
      I imagine I can grow my hair longer with plaits just because I can keep them in longer, but twists are so much faster to do that I just default to them instead.

    When are you redoing your protective style? I'm trying to figure out when I should redo my braids, once a week or every time I ReMoisturize (which is twice a week) ?

    • @SimplyJuliaLauren
      @SimplyJuliaLauren  Год назад +1

      I personally do mine once a week. Washday I wash while in the protective style, then take them down one at a time to moisturize and redo it
