I do 20 reps of the goblet squat three times a week with a 65lb dumbbell. I lift 42.5lb dumbbells, 20 reps as well. These and other resistance/weight lift routines are part of my training every other day. My fave is the angled leg press @625lbs. I’m 68 and have worked out for 4.5 years. It is possible to get into this consistent routine with a positive mindset.
Hello from Poland, Mark :-) I always follow and enjoy your videos, as I'm 63 years young this year. I'm glad that we have the same mind on many issues. Cheers! :-)
I'm 55 and I workout harder and heavier than I did in my twenties. Along with a good diet, I have lots of energy and feel-good vibes. So many men hit their forties and they turn into old men. I can't do that.
I just found this site recently and so far I'm really liking it. I've been doing the workouts especially Mark Mcilyar's videso. I'm 66 and I've been working out consistently since I was 15 or 16. I also eat a very healthy diet and juice regularly. I refuse to become one of the 99% majority of people my age that have become old, brittle and sedentary. I feel strong, vital and fit and I've never been on any medication. I've been a member of many gyms over the years and I always loved the whole gym experience. However, for the last 12 or so years I've been working out exclusively at home. I use a combination of body weight, kettle bells, dumbells and some stretching and yoga. I do have a shoulder issue and a knee issue due to 28+ years of martial art training. I try to follow the marine motto of adapt, improvise and overcome. I'm getting a lot of great information and motivation from these videos and I have to thank Mark ond all the others involved for creating and sharing these great videos. I've got to admit that it makes me feel good to be able to do things that guys in their 30's and 40's can't do. Getting older doesn't have to mean we have to become old men. I plan on working out until it's time for me to say bye bye. Keep em coming!
Excellent video as always. After a dumbbells session I enjoy the stretch of a chest expander, which is a good and strong one, and I can really feel my muscles working when I use it in the normal style and above my head. Would you say a chest expander is beneficial? It definitely feels like it is.
Mark, you are such an inspiration to me. I just turned 69. I have been working out since my 30s and really got into training in the 40s and 50s and in my early 60s I did two Warrior dashes. I had some setbacks, sane injuries not related to working out but that and moving to another sate and covid got me off track. There was so much stress and demands on my time. You videos and support have made the difference. I went from 174 to 153.6 and looking lean. ( took my fitness seriously again and changed my diet and used Anabolic Shred. That worked fantastic in helping me o ;use weight. I really want to see if I can gain a bit of muscle, some I lost. I'd love to hear from guys like me who are in their 60s and what they are doing in their training and diets to gain muscle that was lost durning times of injury and life set backs. I so appreciate your videos and work out tips.
Just get back to it man. Its the same at any age. Do as much as you can without hurting yourself. There is no secret to buiding lean muscle at any age. Eat right, sleep right, drink water, work out as hard as your body allows. The caveat over 50 is, find those exercises that work for your body without hurting you. For me its light weight, slow percise movements, and almost no time between sets. I found I may only do 7 reps at the 3rd set, with 10 seconds between them, but its all burn and its working great. My joints dont hurt, im the right amount of sore the day after. The 45 second rest with heavier wieghts was really hurting my joints. I have the same amount of muscle and probly spend more time with burn than I did with heavier weights and more time between sets. I dont know if its sceintifically correct with the amount of set and time ect, but it works for me and I feel great and not in pain all the time. Just for an example, instead of working with 295 on the bench and waiting until im completely rested and ready for the next set, I do one set with 135, take as much time as it takes to put on 2 more plates, so now IM at 225 I do 15ish reps, 10 seconds later I do 7-8 reps and its burning after the 3rd rep. Then I walk over to incline bench, imediately put 135 on that and lift, so thats about a min of rest, and then 10 seconds between, everything is on fire by then. Its so much less weight but Im getting the same results and no joint pain, i spend a lot more time under burn though.
@@finstor3386 This was really kind of you to share your insights. I am following many of the protocols that you laid out. I had eye surgery 5 weeks ago and was told to take it easy and no weight training. I have two more surgeries ahead of me. Crap but the doc told me that I could for now resume weight training.until the next rouhd of surgeries. I hate having so many fitness setbacks and seriously I felt them when I het the weights the last three days and I did some sanely and di nt over do it including a lot of stretching and movement work. I also do n t rest between sets very often and fit in body squats, stretching and push ups or some kind of ab work between weighted sets. I also when possible and the gym isn't too crowded, I do super sets, trusts, or circuits. At home I have a great gym set up that I have created over the years and I use it often when the weather is bad or I can't drive for some reason. I am using weights, body movement, stretches, and resistance bands so I can really ramp up the cardio intensity. I have a Python Bar which is incredible, I have got a lot of use out of that piece of equipment and it really is super for upper body work: chest, arms shoulder and upper back. Thank again. I am 69 and have been working out most of my life but since my late 303 really got into it more and more. I did 2 warrior dashes in my early 60s. I trained adn got in real shape. After that I had a series of drastic life changes that cut into my work out: loss of job, retirement, a major move and other changes. I don't give up.
66 years old and have just started working out with resistant bands and a few dumbbells. Have knee issues so squats and leg work seem to be difficult to maintain but upper body is ok for now. Diet is key also so 1 gram per Lb of desired boy weight so for me 215 grams per day
Exelent excersices. I am 74 years old i do 3or4 times aweek about 40 min of various excercises. But the most push ups. Relate if you can to push ups. Thank you.
I have been active since way back in my young years . Six years in the Maine Corps kept me in shape. Later years remained active and yet am..as I near 87 this July.
I only squat on a hack squat machine. my back cannot deal with squats anymore. I might try those goblet squats, probably good for bicept and forearm keeping dumbbell in position. maybe I can go farly heavy on the machine. that and heavy ap leg presses. thanks for videos,
First 5 are core/staple movements for most people. Not so sure about the tricep dedication for #6 as they get a ton of work during the presses. Would probably substitute a dumbbell pullover instead…its the upper body squat movement. Or Bulgarian split squats.
great respect! I am 51, 182cm tall and weigh 92 kg 12% body fat, every day training, 3 times a week jogging, 3-4 times a week road cycling, 5-6 times a week workout in my torture basement. i am top fit and full of energy. My girlfriend is 10 years younger , and the training , dear men , extremely affects "everything" :-)
Thanks. I have a damaged lower back, but miss doing dead lift, is there a way to do that in a way that is secure ? Need to strengthen that lower back of mine.
I have severe lower back issues and I can do the dead lifts that he is showing. Just watch your form and use light weights to begin and work your way up.
So I'm 4 weeks out from having an inguinal hernia surgery. I'm feeling pretty good, but afraid of having it happen again so I'm a little hesitant to start lifting ar doing core workouts. I've put on 10 lbs of nasty fat since this all started. Now that I have clearance to workout till it hurts where do I start and how much? I'm 65 and really enjoy endurance Kayak racing, but this has put that to a halt for the time being. HELP! I want to get back in shape for next year.
Laterals are bad for your shoulder bc youre pinching the tendon (supraspinatus) under the acromion. Shoulder is a ball joint you have to rotate your it. Those who say they dont have a problem... you will eventually Alternate shoulder press if yours are bad is with your elbows in front using a neutral grip
Just started working out again at 50. Haven't worked out in about 12 years. Tonight was my 2nd day and I did some light legs yesterday went in Tonight and did some light upper body. Doing light just to break back In and get over the sore part. I'm watching alot of 50 plus videos on here to learn the difference of now and my 30s. I must admit my biggest worry about the gym is the whole tik tok crap with these women accusing men of perving. I almost didn't go inside Tonight bc when I got there the only other people there was two women. I even called my wife and told her I was thinking about leaving. She told me just go in there get your light workout over and don't even acknowledge them. So I did. When I went in one of rhe ladies I guess had gone into the tanning bed by time I went inside. After I went in the other lady finished the leg machine she was on then went In back and didn't come out till both her and the other lady was leaving. It made me uncomfortable and I'm not use to that bc the gym atmosphere wasn't that toxic 12 years ago. It's a real shame things have come to that and you have to feel uncomfortable like that bc you feel like you just being there is making you into some kinda perv when all u want is to be left alone and work out. I'm not going to quit over it just don't like the atmosphere in the gym now days.
Very well said sir about this topic and about this muscles building exercises and they are very excellent and brilliant and keep it up and keep training hard and be strong always and stay healthy and be positive and happy always but never give up on your dreams
As a big strong guy who only works out at home with dumbbells, I'd like to get a set of those door straps but I am worried I'll rip by door's off their hinges pulling on them as hard as I can.
Great video you get a c-rating since you are wearing a tank top if your shirt was off you would get an A+ rating so please take your shirt off before going on camera ok. You mentioned if your wearing a sleeveless shirt it will make your arms look bigger but they would look better with your shirt off.

gymnastics rings are best bang for buck tool.

Great vid, what roid/growth cycle should I be taken at 53yrs.
You didn't say how many sets and reps. Enjoyed the video.
He didn't say because only you know your body and what its capable of
How many sets need to preform? Weekly how many days? I m 45
By the looks of that full bar set up in the background I’m gonna say getting fit doesn’t mean alcohol consumption is off the books.
Nothing motivates a great workout like a fully stocked liquor cabinet!!! Ten goblet squats and then 10 ozs in a goblet!!
As a pitcher once said in baseball when asked why does he not throw harder? He said .. I throw as hard as I ever did but the ball doesn't go as fast
does anyone ever told you, you look like the young George W. Bush? And that's a compliment.

Can you please let us know if you ise steroids? Honest answer please..
Even if he is, you still have to out the work in. Everyone's not on steroids or testosterone.

Former president Bush is in excellent shape!!!!
George bush is looking jacked and ripped
working out is amazing, you have a beautiful body for your age. congratulations
The only ones worth doing are the lateral and push down that's about it
Don't confuse "being in shape" with "body building". They are not the same. Just saying.

When initiating the squat, I think about closing an open drawer with my butt.
That’s a hinge, that’s for deadlifting, squat is for lack of a better term, “ a squat”
There is no such a thing as excercices over 40, 50 , 60 simply do not exist
😀😁🤩🥰😍❤👍👏💪🏋♂️
You would hurt knees in the first exercise...
Why cant we just look that way without killing ourselves 🙄

Don’t need a gym you said train at home you said, of course I forgot everybody has an incline bench in their home
screw Zuck !!!!!
You look great, however please be HONEST about ALL THE REASONS you can maintain muscle mass....
Obviously you are on some type of supplement....Do a video on that then we can trust you
